⏩ Video Question: Who are your favorite guitar duets in any genre of music?
For live content catch me on Twitch. www.twitch.tv/drumrolltony
I'll just say Thrash has always been in my heart. I've always loved watchin Kiko, Mustaine and Friedman...completely biased I know, being a huge fan of Megadeth. That said watchin Midori, Miyako is such a magical experience....endlessly watchin them, whenever I can.
It's right in front of me, Midori and Miyako of Lovebites. Easiest question of the day! 🙂 Put this into perspective...they are compared to Downing / Tipton (Judas Priest) and Murray / Smith (Iron Maiden), two of the greatest lead duos in metal history who have been doing it for 35+ years, yet M&M have been doing it for 6. Just incredible when you think of it. Would take them over the Allman bros, Yardbirds, Cream, Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy duos, etc since metal is my favorite genre. Just my opinion.
You want validation of their talent, look no further than Signs of Deliverance ruclips.net/video/o6oVfCzruHQ/видео.html, ridiculous dual solo or Scream for Me (for good measure) ruclips.net/video/acwkphgzNg8/видео.html, the 2nd half of the song is essentially a solo battle between M&M.
For me it's de Lucia/DiMeola first, then M&M. I grew up on Allman/Betts, Allman/Clapton and early heavy metal, and in rock/metal, these two are the best pair I've ever heard. There are greater individual guitarists (not many) but no band with a better permanent duo.
Midori & Miyako (LOVEBITES) is my favorite guitar duet !
Used to be Smith/Murray of Iron Maiden and Tipton/Downing of Judas Priest. Now it is Midori/Miyako of Lovebites.
Another great reaction. It's always a pleasure to hear your insightful comments when you pause & rewind. Do that as often as you want, in my opinion.
My favorite live video from these women is 'Scream For Me'. 14 guitar solo's with 10 of them in conversation mode. I think your trained ear will appreciate that one.
That's just how they do solos in their songs. One goes, then the other, then they both have a go at it. Pretty sweet.
Haruna!!!! 4'9 of pure power and energy
one in a million shot to find this much talent in one group. you will not be disappointed by one song. the back and forth solos ending with harmonized guitars is their trade mark and you will find them in most songs. a couple of more songs and you will wake up every morning thinking : LOVEBITES !
Good review. Normally I hate it when people pause too much but since you rewind it quite a bit it isn't so bad and plus you have interesting and insightful things to say. You might like the live version of "Under the Red Sky" at the Akasaka Tokyo concert.
This song is such a jewel.. composed by the drummer Haruna, that makes it even more precious, i mean come on how many drummers write songs? It takes highest level of musicianship to composing a piece like Bravehearted...
Pau of The Warning, Phil Collins of Genesis, probably a couplke few more, but yeah, it's a small circle of musicians. And I don't even like Genesis very much.
@@wolfgangwalk337 Pau and Collins are not the typical band drummer. Pau is exceptional thou.. all three girls are. and they make GREAT music.
This is the only song that was done twice, it is the only song composed and written by Haruna, it was on the debut EP "The Lovebites Ep" written in Japanese and re-released on the Awaken from Abyss with Asami rewriting the lyrics in English.
The only song they've published that was written by Haruna. Original lyrics were in Japanese. The backing sounds you hear are a backing track, recorded by Miyako, who does most of their keyboard work (sometimes their collaborator Mao also records keyboard tracks).
Ok that's good to know. I didn't know if they were on a click or not
@@DrumRollTonyReacts When you consider that they do two-hour concerts at this pace, and "Bravehearted" is one of their moderately technical songs, it's sort of hard to imagine doing it without a click track. I think you'd have to go to classical orchestral music to find musicians who play stuff this intense without a click.
@@hiawatha.g Symphony orchestras have the conductor, who gives the "click" as it were. Maybe chamber music.
@@otobokegaijin6218 good point, though of course the conductor's cues are visual, not directly auditory. I do think metal and classical share a lot of characteristics--they don't work unless the musicians are technically near-perfect, they are composition-driven, and they require tight connection among the musicians. To me, what is most impressive about Lovebites is they produce a tapestry of sound as complex and dense as anything put out by an orchestra, with only five instruments and a keyboard backing track, and they keep it interesting for two hours.
@@hiawatha.g The comments seem to have been disabled on the channel---do replies go through then? Anyway, in the case of symphony orchestras, the concertmaster might give auditory cues.
I recall a Japanese fan once noted on his blog the references to the classics in Lovebites' songs, beyond the instances when Miyako sits at the piano onstage and plays them. He compiled the list from Lovebites' own comments and what was detected by fans:
We the United --- Pachelbel's Canon
Above the Black Sea --- Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2
Under the Red Sky --- Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2
Winds of Transylvania --- Beethoven's "Fate" (Symphony No. 5)
Dystopia Symphony --- Beethoven's Pathétique and Moonlight sonatas.
Wait until you hear and see Break The Wall, Set the World on Fire, Holly War, Thunder Vengeance, Above the Black Sea, Swan Song with Chopin intro, all live, all bad ass. You re in the right track, just keep them coming dude
FYI - It is Holy War - there is only one letter L in the word Holy.
And, Under the Red Sky!
@@paulstevenage2286 might as well just say the entire Ep of Battle Against Damnation
One of their guitarists, Miyako, also performs on piano and keyboards so she does prerecord some keyboard backing tracks they occasionally use during live performances. That’s what you’re probably hearing.
All glory to LOVEBITES and all my brothers and sisters of The Wolf Pack everywhere! Best metal band to come along in 25 years. Sweet perfection is their only mission.
This is probably my favorite reaction video. DRT knows his music, so it’s fun to see him get exited
It helps that these girls tear it up
🤟🍻🤟🍻🤟🍻🤟
Welcome to Wolfpack! What song next? Uhm, any? All? Like Band-Maid every song they make is pure gold.
I'd recommend gutargasm Epilogue (warning, do not listen in darkness when being down - emotional damage), Empty Daydream, Signs of Deliverance (dual overhand tapping), Set the World on Fire, When Destinies Align, Winds of Transylvania and Glory to the World. If you want to see Master Pianist at work - Swan Song + Etude or keytar in Spellbound or even playing keyboard + guitar at same time - Burden of Time. Some ballet + acoustic guitar + piano then go on with Frozen Serenade.
Lovebites are one of the rare bands that sound better live than their studio versions. You do hear backtrack, mostly piano/keyboards. Yes, they wear high heels for two hours while having near perfection performances.
Miyako (guitar/keyboards/piano/vocals) - Golden touch - Dean Ambassador, Gary Moore clone, Main composer, Lead vocals who also plays Bass and Drums.
Midori (guitar/backing vocals) - Crazy Shredder - ESP guitars, Yngwie Malmsteen clone, backing vocals who is also a pianist and composed several songs.
Haruna (drums/co-founder) - Energizer Bunny. Nuff said. Also plays guitar and piano.
Asami (vocals) - Metal Princess - RnB background, Ballet, pianist, Main lyricist.
And last but not least, Miho (bass/co-founder/backing vocals) - Left the band in August 2021 (sad) due to personal reasons. Metalhead. Uses only fingers, no picks. ESP bass. Did a bunch of songs more towards Trash metal.
Enjoy Japanese Rock and Metal scene. There are over a hundred active all female bands and groups, enough for a full year of daily reactions :)
Hey Tony - I was re-watching this (I love your breakdowns) and you re-asked the question of where certain things were happening musically. Lovebites uses a lot of backing tracks in some Live songs, sometimes layers of them. There is often a keyboard/synth playing, and occasionally strings or other instruments - often in unison with the rhythm so they're hard to pick out. Miyako plays a lot of the background keys and adds classical elements due to her background. There is also a 'sixth member', Mao, who has helped them with songwriting and arrangements since the beginning (less so in recent years). He is an Amazing keyboardist/composer from a band called Lightbringer with connections to many bands. He is a long time friend of Fuki (also from Lightbringer) and Shiren from Unlucky Morpheus and works with them occasionally as well providing background keys/synth (sometimes off-stage during Live performances.
They use back tracking on a lot of their songs and of course they record them. A testament to their abilities. I love this band! So good!
These ladies are world class musicians and they deserve worldwide recognition. They have to come Las Vegas and play at the Allegiant stadium to start their first US tour.
Really! people from Las Vegas listens to metal ? I thought you guys were busy impersonating Elvis 😀
Just joking my friend.
It is likely that their next tour will start in the US or south America since there have been a lot of requests. In an earlier interview Midori's answer to this was: Yeah, yeah, yeah we will be playing the US.
thank you for the great reaction/analysis. another fantastic song with strong uplifting lyrics from them.
Great song Great reaction, i suggest you Two Great song’s Sign of Deliverance and Rise some Hell, thank you🤘🏼🎸🥁🎤🐺💖🇯🇵🇮🇹
Choose wich ever song you feel for. You can't go wrong with LOVEBITES !
Much Love to you and Ukraine
🌻🌻🌻💙💛💙
Great analysis and review. They use keyboard backtrack as an extra layer all the time in live and recordings.
Burden of time, Scream for me, Signs of deliverence, Shadowmaker, Awakening/Hammer of Wrath, Thunder vengence.. Anything.. really, its all next level..
I will never get tired of saying that Lovebites is the best metal band I have ever heard
Thx for reaction ! Amazing band ! Listen " Break the wall " Hamme of wrath "," Swang song" LIVE !!
Fantastic song 🐺🤘
Absolutely epic song and thanks for checking this song out. Usually this song doesnt come this early in everyones Lovebites journey and Bravehearted is usually overlooked. This song is in my personal top 5 for Lovebites as it's just pure musical perfection. My top 5 include Bravehearted, We The United, Under The Red Sky, Winds Of Transylvania, and Shadowmaker
For a recommendation I recommend the song "Set The World On Fire" live link ruclips.net/video/99zsH6iG_6c/видео.html this song is a face melting mind blower 🤘
Agree. top 5 for sure
Great reaction. Bravehearted tends to get overlooked, but it's a really cool song with an interesting structure. And keep rewinding, we fans appreciate your insight. There is a lot happening in their songs, after all. You should probably do A Frozen Serenade next. Very different from what you've heard so far. Here's a link: ruclips.net/video/Ae8pQVu-RN8/видео.html
Oh yes another epic classic arrangement from the girls. Undying admiration of their artistry.
Forget Duracell batteries, Haruna the drummer is nuclear powered. All 4' 9" of her. Just an amazing and fierce sound from such a tiny body.
These ladies really are incredible in every department.
Nothing better than M&M playing side by side. They don't do it that often (handful of songs), it's always special and I just smile as I know it's not going to last forever. You need to check out Signs of Deliverance live and / or Scream for me live for top notch dual solos. Actually, the majority of their songs feature top notch harmonizing solos...these just stand out. Great reaction and no worries about rewinding...it's a reaction.
👏👏👏
Very well done, sir!
This way, you can rewind any video as often as you possibly like. Listening to what you notice and comment on, it pays off. 😊
My personal opinion: This not _a_ song of Lovebites, it is _the_ live version. If I was to introduce somebody to Lovebites' _studio_ recordings, I would choose between the music videos "When destinies align" and "Judgement Day". But if it comes to their _live_ shows, I would definitely choose _this_ video here, to introduce them. It surely is legendary already now.
LOVEBITES - Bravehearted lyrics:
Throw away all the masks that you wear
You're not fooling nobody with cheap imitations
Don't take it, your heart can see right through it all
Turn and face all the fear that you're hiding from
Take what you can and turn everything into your own strength
Keep pushing forth, all the way
Chained to the fear engraved deep inside
Memories that will stay, still haunting
Even if there is nobody else
You must keep the promise of faith
Don't you pity yourself for your weakness
Without any sacrifice, you can forget all the prayers
It's up to you to be your God
Drowning into a sea of hopelessness
Underneath all the weight and burden
If you want to escape destiny
Be prepared to burn through the blazing sun
Glory to the brave, deserted you may stand
But no matter how arduous, be the victorious
Prove that your will's the strongest battle cry
Go and raise your sword, the war has just begun
There is always a way if you know that your heart is true
Nothing can stop your soul from breaking free
Don't turn your back, no don't make it pretend
Fight through the pain until you've reached the end
Though dark and bloody, have no worries
There will be redemption
Finally when the skies rise over you
Triumph will be in your heart shining through
Forever guiding the way into the light
Silently listening to words of Hell and hate
Shatters the armour to sway your fragile heart
Still it's the only way, refuse to give it up
Keep the focus, and you will notice
Everything is almost in your grasp
Drowning into a sea of hopelessness
Underneath all the weight and burden
If you want to escape destiny
Be prepared to burn through the blazing sun
Glory to the brave, deserted you may stand
But no matter how arduous, be the victorious
Prove that your will's the strongest battle cry
Go and raise your sword, the war has just begun
There is always a way if you know that your heart is true
Nothing can stop your soul from breaking free
Don't turn your back, no don't make it pretend
Fight through the pain until you've reached the end
Though dark and bloody, have no worries
There will be redemption
Finally when the skies rise over you
Triumph will be in your heart shining through
Forever guiding the way into the light
If you swear to God, you must see it through
The power is in your hands
-----
lyrics: haruna (translated with asami)
music: haruna
arrangement: LOVEBITES (miho, haruna, midori, miyako, asami)
The right-side guitar player Midori is also a concert-level pianist. She records the synth/keyboard tracks, but except for a few songs that prominently feature keyboard, they're all backing tracks and they're just piped in when they play live
It's Miyako, not Midori !!
I really appreciate watching a reaction by someone who understands music and appreciates the talent and effort that they are watching. Honestly, pause and rewind every word if you have to, you’re showing me stuff my (non musician) ears don’t notice. Also, even though I have the albums (all of them) I rarely sit and read the lyrics. Not only is Asami’s vocal performance a joy to behold each and every time, they (and very often she herself) write complex, wordy lyrics. How she remembers them, in a foreign tongue, and yet sings them with (mostly) the correct intonation is beyond my comprehension. Glad you like the band, me, I love them to death, and I can promise you right now that there is NO weak Lovebites track. Seriously, not one. I really appreciated and enjoyed this.
I have seen every single live performance of Lovebites (that have been posted on RUclips) at least 2-3 times each, which is probably around 100-150 different ones going all the way back to Hyper Japan Christmas in 2017. There are at least three times when Asami messed up the lyrics to the song. But I still love her. She is adorable and I love her voice.
@@ChadTheDragonLord she messes up on several, but she never misses a beat. She’s my favourite member of the band (which is a very close contest) and my dream is to meet all of them. I’ve already said that I think the next live performance is almost certain to be in Japan and that if I can get a ticket I’ll fly from the U.K. to attend!
Thank you for doing Bravehearted this is a hidden gem in their catalog of performances. You can see and feel the emotion in this one. From miho, midori, and Miya headbanging to Asamis tearing eyes from the emotion she's putting in to it. This performance is a masterpiece written by Haruna. Thank you❤ again for the reaction this is my favorite song and performance by them. Keep going you have so much more to discover and see with them. They're is a keyboardist/ producer behind the scenes who is a musical genius his name is Mao.
Is it a roll? Is it a rolling double bass? Yessss! It's SUPER HARUNA!!!!!
Yeah Lovebites nothing more to say. I'm a new subscriber so i wish to see your reaction on the song Addicted from Zepp Diversity Tokyo concert 2020. I'm already curious to see your reaction. Thanks for your reaction and comment.
Im lost for words for this band!! Every song is a freaking banger!! 🤘🐺🤘 This one is the only song (so far) written by the drummer HARUNA!! 🤘🥁✨🎶
Miyako usually plays all the keyboard/piano parts but sometimes they do use recorded tracks for some parts where Miyako is busy playing the guitar and cant play the keys, maybe that is what you were hearing in this one!! That doesn't mean Miyako can't play guitar and keys at the same time as you will eventually find out!!
You can pick pretty much any song, but because you mentioned solos, harmonies, just great guitar work in general i suggest Glory to The World - ruclips.net/video/-wJtD2XEXH4/видео.html
Thanks for the great commentary!! 🤘
Miyako (the one with the Dean), plays keyboard as well. What you are probably hearing is a click track because she's busy playing guitar.
Besides being adorably cute at 4'9", drummer Haruna doesn't need batteries. She has a pocket nuclear reactor in her. She is relentless during their 2+ hrs concerts. She uses an Economy of Motion to her drumming as you can see she doesn't do a whole lot of extra movement.
They use a backing track whenever you hear vocals, piano or keyboard in the background. Piano/Keyb. arrangements are mostly done by Miyako (dark haired) guitarist since she is a concert level classical pianist. With some help from Mao who is a former keyboardist of defunct Japanese band, Light Bringer. Although nearly all Lovebites members can play the piano.

Haruna's song!
Lyrics: Asami, Haruna
Music: Haruna
This song was written by Haruna The Drummer.
Brand new Nemophila single called Adabana just released today and it may just be their best yet. Hope you will check it out.
For Haruna, this is just a "finger exercise" ...: D
That girl has a nuclear reactor and an atomic clock.
Fire in the hole!!
Amazing 🐺
I tend to prefer the thrash metal end of their songs, so my first recommendation would be Set The World On Fire. I don't think you could go wrong with any of their songs though. They have a wide range, and never fail to impress. I've spent a decent among of time playing drums myself, so it's nice to see someone pick up on the impressive stuff going on with the rhythm section.
I recommend you give Galneryus - Sense of our lives LIVE , or Angel of salvation LIVE a listen. Its another power, neo-classical, symphonic metal band. Syu is one of the best guitarists out there!!
Hi ! I strongly suggest reacting to Wintersun with the song "Wintersun - Sons Of Winter And Stars (TIME I Live Rehearsals At Sonic Pump Studios)". An amazing drummer that you might recognize. Wintersun has very strong musicians and a great sound.
Good review sir, please do Lovebites - Frozen Serenade for the next reaction 🤘

Bloody Fantastic 🐺
Enjoyed sharing that reaction with you. I hope you're up for more. Try Swansong with Chopin intro
ruclips.net/video/dcMVtrvpJpk/видео.html for a change of pace. And yes they have been known to use a keyboard backing track.
Miho Miho Miho!

As a drummer you really owe it to yourself to check out Junna doing a drum playthrough of Through The Fire and the Flames if you haven't already. I wish I could love something half as much as she appears to love playing the drums. Also very good at it

Thank you for the link!!
great reaction again man, this is the only song that was written by Haruna the drummer, she wrote it in japanese and they redid it in the english version, a really cool song, i would like to recommend you another band from japan called Dir En Grey, they play experimental progressive metal, its musicians and vocalist are amazing, it would be interesting from a drummer's point of view if you check the song "kiri to mayu" ruclips.net/video/uvusScmefEw/видео.html for you to see the precision of this band's drummer, he is one of the best in japan and the montage of your kit is pretty eccentric, i would be very happy if you give them a chance. Greetings
They keys are a backing track.
🤘🏻🐺🤘🏻
Here for my daily Lovebites fix
Do more of them, I suggest they thrashy songs, Hammer of wrath, Break the wall, Set the world on fire, M.D.O. Winds of Transilvanya and etc, search for the live performances, just avoid the bloodstock live because the sound mix is very poor.
From your comments, you next two songs should be When Destinies Align
ruclips.net/video/hLFelI93VkM/видео.html
Or, SwanSong
ruclips.net/video/WBhtqgiXEA4/видео.html
Music director? I know it has various meanings but you would hope that any music director would be aware of backing track or backing tape, as it used to be called. It is blatantly apparent from six seconds into the song Bravehearted that there is backing used. As this is your second reaction to Lovebites, I guess it is understandable that you were looking for a keyboardist as you may not know how many musicians are in the band?
LMAO. Not gonna lie your comment has a bit of douchetasm to it which makes you sound a bit funky in tone. I have played in many settings where the backing tracks are part of the click run from board to house OR being triggered by one of the musicians on stage. Most modern settings have honestly too many musicians with their little MacBook and drum triggers filling in gaps. I made the assumption about a track in a Nightwish reaction and got told by some passionate folks that it's "not just any track" so pardon my purposeful ignorance. Seeing how this is only my 2nd Lovebites viewing I'm going to ask about what I'm hearing as it is also engaging... but also brings out some phucstyx as we see here. Also a ton of pit gigs I have been apart of have off stage musicians. You never know. Yes, I'm a music director in a variety of ensembles and performance levels.
Too many stops
