Marianne Faithfull was born in London, England on 29 December 1946. She is an English singer and actress who achieved popularity in the 1960s with the release of her hit single "As Tears Go By" and became one of the lead female artists during the British Invasion in the United States. She is celebrating her 76 birthday today December 29, 2022
This is a worthy effort, IMHO. I always think of her as not having great talent but being strikingly beautiful with her flaxen hair and lovely face. I can't take my eyes off of her.
Hi Faithfull friend, I sort of think their break-up was mutual- she wanted her other "passion" more and she was SO young, famous SO suddenly...Maybe I am biased, I do dig The Stones, used to be my favorite rock group! Jagger likes to do the "stray cat blues" too much for almost any Lady! I know Marianne wasn't a bourgeois typical " mom" either! Marianne has stated he wanted her mind and that she gave up everything including her son.Depends on gossip source hmm. Her OD in Australia didn't help.Got her new CD, ? YOU WILL HAVE GOOSEBUMPS, I promise even if you don't dig poetry. I LOVE ERIC'S CHANNEL TOO. His music is brilliant.Namaste Z
I always cringe when I read such a comment. Even if you think she's an amazing person or if Mick did, it still doesn't guarantee that they were compatible or meant to be together forever.
She was one of the most beautiful girls who held the microphone, it seems that she was very religious in her previous life, but in this life she simply spent the reserve she received. This is a common story: we receive something good from God, but then we simply waste it to harm ourselves
Must have had some very powerful mic's back then for her not to have had one to sing into , just comes out singing into the air and the sound comes out into tv land perfect ! Wow wish they could do that now days !
Marianne's vocal is fine, and its nice to see her dance a little, smile and look like she's having fun. The problem here is that the arrangement is almost a note by note copy of Petula's. Its a virtual clone.
the program RAI was "15 minuti con...." (15 minutes with....). In this serie there were also Brian Auger and Trinity, The Primitives, Equipe 84, Bruno Martino, New Trolls and many others.
Even by this early part of her career she was clearly anorexic and no doubt , using heroine. She has all the symptoms of same in this video production. It is a miracle that she was a survivor of the negative influences of her life.We are happy she survived.
This is one of those sixtie's videos where the singer appeared on a show and lip-synced the lyrics. You can hear the lyrics before her lips are even moving. Now, that practice has been brought back with present pop music. Not really much of a loss there, however, since present pop music uses auto tune and almost all of the present pop songs are pure junk, unlike this song.
this how she sings recently on God help please.God made her back like she was because her folk music has failed twice! Not broken Marianne Faithfull, don't fix it this is better and her opera voice comes out
People today don't remember there was something OTHER than Motown for female singers in the 60s. I have loved Petula Clark's version since I was in elementary school, and this is as good as hers!
There was also the New York genius singer/songwriter Laura Nyro. Try her 'Wedding Bell Blues' (1966), and 'Stoney End' (1967), and many others. Nyro is probably the most influential singer/songwriter of the last 50 years. Her 1968 pop LP is considered revolutionary 'Eli and the Thirteenth Confession'. There was also Joni Mitchell, who was influenced by Nyro.
I am sorry but she cannot sing, and was a chick who hung onto the apron string s of stars. That was her attempt at being famous. Sorry but it is like Yoko Ono living in Jon’s shadow.
Marianne 💋❤️
J'adore la mode des années 60.
Les filles la portaient à la perfection.

Mi papi es de esos tiempos ..... Pero el ya lo llamo nuestro señor.😢
HER VOICE IS SO... DAINTY AND FEMALE, KIND OF DREAMY. I'M 67 AND I DON'T REMEMBER HER FROM THE 60s.
Never knew she sang this Petula classic. She adds a new element to this song and I love it!!! ❤❤❤
Unforgetable voice and smile
This very good. Of course, Petula owns it, but Marianne does an excellent cover. You go girl!
VOUS M APPRENEZ
awesome singer.
Surprising upbeat performance; she shows a beautiful smile.
Love this cover by Marianne. Delightful!
Can only feel delightful for Marianne She is beautiful as was Petula. Great cover song.
The fabulous Marianne. She's an excellent actress too.
Was a very beautiful LADY and a brilliant singer
I'm kind of surprised to see negative comments on this - she doesn't have Petula's power, but she does a perfectly good and enjoyable job here.
She is so much more of a temptress than Petula. I would have loved to meet her. Petula? Not so much.
yep

Marianne Faithfulls version is used in a lot of pop culture films and romance films

She’s a very cool “alley cat”dancer. [someone who learns to dance in the club] ❤️Marianne Faithful is G
Que hermosa versión de esta canción. Interpretada por la más linda y la mejor voz de Inglaterra.
My young years, wandering across the oceans, listening to this lady.
Always a fan..Always the smile
I recall as a child hearing this on the radio and wondering where downtown was!
@spottydog4477........It's opposite uptown.
I'm in love.
So nice: beautiful!
Natural Beauty 💞
I love her voice.
Gracious me, how I adored her, and still do!
Nice dress
A joy she is here
Bellissima
Damn! She was an angel with an ethereal voice...so gorgeous! Boy, was Mick Jagger a colossal Dumbass to give her up!❤❤❤

Before my time, but like a few of her songs. I read she dumped her husband for Mick. She has been battling health issues in recent years.
I wonder if they are still friends?

got this album, love it.
Very delicate touch, love it. Thanks.
This is lovely.❤
I love !
So beautiful 🙂
Thank you for sharing ❤️🌹✨
Marianne at her best
Must have had some very powerful mic's back then for her not to have had one to sing into , just comes out singing into the air and the sound comes out into tv land perfect ! Wow wish they could do that now days !
Awesome ❤❤
Great cover.

not a bad version .. loved her

❤❤❤❤❤
Why does the caption say live when it's clearly not. Marianne was my heartthrob even before I really knew what heartthrob ment.
jesus, she's really skinny then! love that version
Smiling so much more than the moody young girl singing 1964's 'As Tears Go By".
🌹Que Tu est Belle🌹
FAB :)
So cute🎀
She is "kawaii"
彼女は可愛い💠
Kanojo no aishitemasu
💖💖💖💖💖
Marianne looking so beautiful. Alas the heavy smoking and drugs dramatically altered her voice.
Love every version of this song. The score was great as well. What tv show was this taken from?
💐🌍
😇😎
So when/how did her voice become coarse?
I dont like the original song and i am not leaving hate comments in petunias video
😃.
she seems so thin
I love Pet but I prefer Marianne's version. It's so much more believable.
Petula Clark on speed
She was on a severe weight loss diet, right?
Anyone got a Mars Bar?
LMAO
Please just Petula : she is the downtown girl
Yes it was Petula
Who was first? Petula Clark? Marianne?
petula, I prefer this version by Marianne.
Petula Clark sang this song first.
Even by this early part of her career she was clearly anorexic and no doubt , using heroine. She has all the symptoms of same in this video production. It is a miracle that she was a survivor of the negative influences of her life.We are happy she survived.

this is better and her opera voice comes out
THIS MUSIC IS TOO LOUD
She seems to be adopting a European (continent) accent, very odd.
Sounds English to me...
Its posh English from the right schools
This is the kind of 1960s female music I want to hear not Motown.
dampen damp
I hear 'ya!!

sounds racist!!!!
Did think she was an angel.
残念ながらこれはアレンジが悪い!マリアンヌフェイスフルさんが気の毒だ!マリアンヌさんのソフトな感じはまあ悪くはないがペトゥラ・クラークさんのヴォーカルの様なビ―トが足りない。
Petula Clarks song.. not even close Marianne cutie pie, whatever your name is.....
I am sorry but she cannot sing, and was a chick who hung onto the apron string s of stars. That was her attempt at being famous. Sorry but it is like Yoko Ono living in Jon’s shadow.
