When it first aired, a lot of older fans liked it as well... But even back then I knew they were likely saying that because they were all wearing rose-tinted glasses after All-Stars. I myself was 19 and hated it back then and hate it even more nearly seven years later.
The only thing I liked about this season was Ella’s elimination. She left with a smile AND managed to annoy Chris till the very end. It’s one of the most positive and satisfying eliminations in the whole series.
YEESSSS THANK YOU Finally someone else enjoyed that as much as I did. I’ll admit, in the early episodes she annoyed me as much as Sugar or Leonard. However, when she was the only real crazy on her team (other than the moderate Sugar), she actually pulled weight and was seriously useful. Seeing her go actually made me disappointed, but dear goodness her goodbye was fantastic and optimistic of her despite all she went through. I genuinely hope she actually makes a return in later seasons for more development. Y’all know the characters of this season could use development
Personally I was hoping for her to get some sort of character development... To grow really. Call me simple but her being so cheerful kinda grew on me. Maybe she'll grow out of that princess thing and stand up to herself too (Her being constantly bullied by Sugar was heinous)
Leonard's character is ONLY good if you know who he's based off of. If you don't know about the wizard who walks around New York City then half his jokes make no sense.
The fact that he's based on Blackwolf the Dragonmaster is hilarious (and surprising as well, considering Blackwolf is quite obscure), but that doesn't make Leonard enjoyable to watch at all in the actual show. The attempt at humour this season was so bad. He's also not a LARPer like they say - he actually seems to legitimately believe in the fantastical stuff he does and represents, rather than simply using as role play.
I think the wizard guy could have been more interesting if he believed he had magic because every time he tried to do a spell some weird coincidence happened to make it seem like he was magic (at least to himself. Some of the others can see that it's a coincidence). I don't know if that would totally fix it, though...
My only hope for the new seasons is that the writers really seemed to course correct in Ridonculous Race. There was a good mix of characters who were insane caricatures but also had relatable human moments that I feel the Gen 2 and 3 casts really don't have. Was it because they were playing a different game? Maybe. I hope they at least learned something.
They also had a wider variety of age groups that they could find more stereotypes of, so it could feel more and fresh and stand out on its own in my opinion.
Honestly found Ella to be a really fun character and wanted her to stick around longer, but yeah it felt pretty awful seeing her constantly getting bullied for dumb shit
She could have been a really valuable asset to her team she could tame basically any animal on that island that’s a huge advantage to her team but nah they just used her to get consistently bullied wasted potential fr
I really think Dave could've been a good character until they made liking Sky his entire personality after the first few episodes. I thought he was a pretty good straightman to the rest of the cast, then the writers just took his character and made him unbearable. Really sad to see. Overall this season is a mess.
dave had the potential to be a good character but yeah, him liking sky became his entire personality. his entire character revolves around him trying to impress her after he admitted he liked her and it became annoying. at least with other characters who had crushes, like cody, he still maintained his personality and didn’t become hellbent on impressing said crush
I still can't believe that Dave straight up just tried to kill sky like when I saw that the first time even then I was like he should be locked like izzy may have been pretty crazy but this guy just tried to commit murder on someone.
@Enrique Flores I never liked the common false exaggeration and misconception that many fans constantly make that Dave "tried to kill Sky" in the finale. Sure, Dave had his problems (and did take enjoyment in harming her), but he wasn't trying to attempt murder. Plus, it would completely ruin the point of wanting to burn his share of the prize money to spite Sky in the first place. Some people make the claim that he just completely broke down at that point and wasn't thinking about his plan to burn the money being cohesive, but I still think saying he tried to kill her is definitely a stretch. Dave did have a mental breakdown, but he isn't a completely bad person at heart, as most of the pre-merge showed us, and in addition to his feelings of resentment towards Sky at least being somewhat understandable.
I feel like chris going insane and actively trying to maim the contestants could be changed and explained away by saying it was severe exposer to radiation from the last season and it scrambled his brain
Something I notice is that the earlier seasons focus more on teenager stereotypes, and PI has more...well, general stereotypes that are really in your face. There's even teen stereotypes in the race season, like the adversity twins and the goths, that make at least entertaining, if not compelling characters that would've been good characters on an island season. Making Ella a Disney adult or theater kid, or Max a future chemistry major, or showing more of the twins' school spirit to drive home the point that they're popular cheerleaders? I think that might've improved the season a lot.
I think all this would've just been benefited with more episodes to show these aspects of the characters. Cause everything you mentioned sounds good and can easily be put in, I'm sure the writers know. It's just unlike the first 3 seasons, less episodes so less time to focus on characters outside challenges. At least that's how i felt about this and revenge when rewatching the series in a binge a couple years ago. Also smaller casts so there were less "not MAIN characters of the season but also not elimination fodder" characters either. Revenge and Pahkitew just have too few characters and moves too quick so there's no time to really get a feel for anyone that doesn't make it far or has a focused on dynamic
Some stereotypes for the new seasons could definitely be the quiet, soft spoken one, popular loud one (not annoying enough to where her character is just yelling, just an exaggerated version of popular teen girls), I'm not sure what they'll do about the LGBT characters because they can't be stereotypical or they'll get backlash but I think making them have individual personalities that have nothing to do with then being LGBT would work and in general alot of teen stereotypes by today. The World has changed alot

Shawn (and Jasmine) is the only reason why I willingly go back to watch this season. I love how Shawn goes from a one dimensional guy who’s paranoid of zombies to a guy who’s conflicted if he should stick with his usual ways or to let his guard down and make new connections. I was ecstatic when he won this season he deserved it!! 💙💖
whoever wrote shawn and jasmine should have been in charge of the rest of the cast. Leonard could have been an interesting guy, only one that I dont see working at all is Sugar tbh

I actually think Beardo could have been something more than he was. He was a big enough guy so you'd buy him getting physical and if he'd been written to be more subtle with his sound effects it could have been used to both real good comedic effect and helpful in challenges.
I honestly love Topher because it’s insane to see a character that only wanted to be on the show to take Chris’s job 😂 that’s lowkey iconic and makes a decent threat for Chris lol
If Topher was just naturally better and a better host then Chris and his confessionals were him acting cool about it and what he does is just instinct. It'd be even cooler if this version of Topher actually took his job for ridonculous race.
Personally I feel like they could’ve done so much with Ella and her motivation to get the Million dollars. In her audition tape she mentioned that she lived in an apartment with her family and I’m assuming a low quality one that that due to her thin walls. That could’ve implied her family was at a financially bad place which could’ve been her motivation for the Million. Another motivation could’ve been that her mom/dad was a terrible parent due to stress and let it out on her growing up which is why she is quite childish and wants everyone to be happy and peaceful. It could’ve been an after effect of some form of abuse. If she had that as part of her character she could’ve had a motivation and a reason as to why she is the way she is.
I could see her turning to princess movies as a form of comfort for sure. Honestly, Leonard's whole thing could have been revealed to be a coping mechanism for him as well, and if Leonard had been made at least bearable as a character, they could have formed some kind of bond from that.
Thing is TD would never cover that kind of motivation unless it could be made for laughs lol. The abusive parent part i mean. If she were a delinquent type sure, "my pops was a jerk and would say it was 'tough love'" as a throw away line would fit someone like Duncan, but a character like sweet Ella going "my parents are violent, i sing to cope and i need the million to get away from home" is... Tonally not the series strong suit. Your first idea with them just having money issues fits though.
Tbh I liked Ella. Really wished her to win or be at least in the three finalists. Was catchy her swan songs haha, specially the one she sang in her elimination. Hate Sugar so much
He was always kinda psychopathic with how much he wanted to put teens in danger and pit them against each other, but at least he seemed somewhat on the level back in Island. He even had chummy moments with some of the kids.

@@mrreyes5004 From watching the series recently it seems more that in the early seasons it was if the contestants died there was no more show, with many comments about that kind of thing (particularly from Chef). But as soon as it was clear they could get more he started to get less caring.
Topher for me is THE biggest miss of the entire series. The idea was so clever, and it was clear Chris had gone of the deep ends since S4 Seeing him actually be challenged by someone would have been a very interesting development. Have him be useful and make it far (the showman personality is great) As a side note all you had to do with Dave was keep him normal, maybe give him a random mental breakdown here and there but nothing serious

Ella and Sammy fall for this and get eliminated and Dave also gets eliminated the same he does originally, but Sky, Shawn and Jasmine form their own alliance and soon work against him. With that happening, Scarlett manipulates them to take her side and eventually, things will allow Chris back as the host. Topher is disqualified and evicted along with Max (with Scarlett scheming that). Finally, the four conspire against Sugar and get her out the same way. Sky with her belching talent, Shawn with his armpit and Scarlett as well as Jasmine could come up with anything better than Sugar obviously. Then it all comes down to the four, where Scarlett schemed enough to get Jasmine off the competition but then Sky and Shawn scheme back getting Scarlett out much like how Owen and Gwen did against Heather. But this time, Scarlett puts up a physical fight and despite her efforts, Sky beats her. A Sky vs Scarlett would have been an epic reversal of tropes rivalry. While Lightning vs Cameron is the peak of smart and well intentioned brains vs belittling brawn, Sky would have been the supportive and empathetic athlete vs Scarlett, the master manipulating scheming Machiavellian. Then the Shawn vs Sky finale happens the same as it was.
My main problem with Pahkitew was that the cast was _too_ cartoony(?) I get it’s a cartoon, but the previous casts were characters that I feel like people could relate to or had great character development. Shawn, Jasmine, and Sammy were great parts of Pahkitew. Everyone else was a carbon copy of someone I already knew (like Skye literally being a downgraded Zoe) or too comical.

Personally the only good characters this season to me anyway were Shawn, Max, Jasmine, kind of Sky, Beardo surprisingly, and that was about it; either the rest were characters I didn’t like or didn’t care about. Literally, the intro alone shows you how bad it’s gonna with unlikeable and hateful characters, this and All Stars is what killed it for me
It's funny with how hard I rooted for them in the beginning before we knew any better, but once the season was over I realized how highkey abusive Dave and Sky's relationship was, from Dave's end. Guy essentially forced this manifestation of a relationship with her and never let her explain why it couldn't happen, and then when it was revealed why, he blamed HER, when Sky literally tried to tell Dave that she couldn't be with him because she had a boyfriend. He got mad at her for not explaining that to him, yet he stopped her every single time she TRIED to tell him because he didn't want to hear it since it went against his motives. He lived in a fantasy land that, whenever he got a reality check, blamed everything but himself, and it's what wound up being his downfall both in the competition and in his chances with Sky. If he literally just let Sky explain why they couldn't be together, he ironically enough would've had a MUCH better chance with her since she said she was gonna break up with her boyfriend back home. But Dave let his insecurities get the better of him. A lot of people hate Dave and rightfully so, but him and Sky's arc actually shows a lot about a certain type of abusive relationship.
I've always thought that Sky could've easily just blurted out the truth despite Dave trying to shut her down, and that would've been the end of that fiasco. Not trying to defend Dave though hes shit.
the worst part is that a side of the fandom was trying to make Sky look like she was the one in the wrong, when you like some but you can't be with him you can't just interrupt him to say "i have a boyfriend bye", you need to go easy and take some time to explain if you don't want to hurt him, unfortunately every time Sky tried Dave either interrupted or ignored her. i feel sorry for her.

I literally only watch Pakhitew Island for Jasmine, Skye, and Shawn. Shawn was cool and Jasmine..."awakened" something in me. Jasmine and Shawn carried this show and I didn't hate Skye.
My sister and I really liked Dave’s character at first, being just an awkward guy who has a crush. He was simple and straightforward, but we felt like that was needed given the rest of cast was so weird this season. We hated his character development tho, that ruined him honestly
Sky could’ve had a better season, and something that goes kinda unnoticed is how Shawn told Dave to try and show Sky he is a good competitor and can be her bf and then it went to point where he started trying to one up her which got her upset. So Shawn didn’t completely do it but he did make Dave think he can get her by trying to one up her. Dave could’ve made it to the final 5 and Shawn, Sky, Dave, and Jasmine could’ve teamed up and got Sugar out and let it go on from there.

As a total drama fan, in my opinion this season is the worst (yes even worse than TDAS in my opinion) the cast is just so unlikable with a few exceptions. I specifically despise Dave, Rodney, Lenord and Topher. Scarlet had so much potential to be a unique villian but Scarlett Fever ruined her character for me. I did like Shawn and Jasmine's relationship though

Not gonna lie, I way prefer this season over All Stars. A lot of characters here can still be used and fixed in future seasons, but a majority of the All Stars cast are kind of just ruined forever.
Idk why people always say this, I’ll admit I had that mindset about all stars for a while too but I recently rewatched the season and it’s not THAT bad, just medicore like pahkitiew is. And I don’t see how most characters were ruined, sure lots of them acted out of character at rimes but they’re by no means ruined

I enjoyed the season. I would say all-stars is the worst season but I think every season is enjoyable enough. I liked pahkitew island because I just watched it for what it was and didn't compare it to other seasons. All the characters were funny or at least entertaining. I just wish we got more time with them so that they could have been more fleshed out and multi dimensional.
My thoughts exactly watching ot first time in my 20s lol. This and Revenge are just victims of smaller cast and episode count. I feel if they wer3 allowed 26 episodes like the first 3 and had more characters to fill that tier of "not a main plot player but a fun loveable character that isnt just elimination fodder" that the first gen cast had, these seasons would feel so much better. But as they are, they just go by too quick
Shawn kicking every ass of the Robot Chris McLeans was the best of him ever in TD, since he went Beast Mode on it. Not a doubt he will survive every Zombie Apocalypse Media, like The Walking Dead and every George A. Romero Film

Amy could’ve manipulated Sammy into eliminating contestants like Heather did with Lindsay and Beth, they could’ve had a much longer and better storyline and it would’ve been cooler to see them last longer this way
I really Hope they go back to what made total drama so great a diverse cast of characters there own personalities and each one brings something special to the team. the romance characters need to happen more naturally, and I this is just me I did like the idea in revenge of the island where they know already they are in for some crazy challenging and understand more of chris also with the added bonus we could see familiar fan favorites come in for one episode, for special appearances
Completely agree, couldn’t relate to the characters, Chris didn’t mesh with that pep cast and the challenges felt lazy. This is where I thought total drama was at its end, but I was pleasantly surprised with ridonculous race. Even if it’s not technically a season it’s one of my favorites
Eh, I still think AS is worse for terrible writing. I thought the writing was at least decent in this season after re-watching recently, but yeah, most of the characters aren't very well-written since most of them are either one-note gimmick or one-dimensional. Nonetheless, this is my second favorite season tied with ROTI.
Lindsay should not be on all stars she might be my favorite but she is too dumb and stupid or maybe owen should be in all stars instead of lindsay brick should be in all stars instead of sam and Leshawna should be in all stars instead of sierra , lindsay sam and sierra are not fitting all stars tho.

I think I'd prefer it if they just had another Ridonculous Race season, I loved seeing the unique challenges it had (and a fresh change from Chris as the host) and loved the character interactions; the bieber kid and his dad, the goths (of course), the step brothers. Whether it's new or returning cast I feel like there's a lot more opportunities for characters and ideas
I'm not gonna lie- If Dave is brought for the new season he better get some redemption not the crap we got- however let's be real he probably won't be back ;-;
Its confirmed that there will be ANOTHER whole new cast, making it gen 4 of the td cast. Dave won't be in the game, but he could make a small cameo in the new seasons. (I hope not lol I hate dave.)
I feel like all the characters this season were too caricature-based and they could've had so much opportunity to branch a lot of them out, but the only ones who felt like they were the "main characters" were Sky, Shawn, Sugar, Jasmine, Dave, sometimes even Max to an extent. I thought having Scarlett as a surprise villain could've been a bit more of a natural process and then her elimination being a bit later after the reveal so we can see her "potential", because immediately booting her off just for a 1 episode concept of her going insane feels kind of weird. One of my problems is that they made it WAY too obvious who was going to last long and who wasn't from the beginning to the end, I thought it was obvious Ella, Beardo, Leonard and Amy weren't going to last long. Another thing they could've done was utilize the twins more, I thought Amy getting her karma was definitely good but they could've made her arc stronger in terms of being able to manipulate her sister, playing the game deviously, and occasionally being snarky or rude instead of being downright unnecessarily cruel to Sammy the whole entire time. There was a lot of opportunity and the season felt so corny and campy.

The only things i enjoyed about this season was Jasmine and Shawn. Jasmine was interesting and Shawn's apocalypse paranoia was ok but the thing that made it a cool aspect of his character is he was actually useful because of it. And like like both of their character designs. Also. Topher and Chris's interactions were amusing too. It was a really fun idea that i loved.
Jasmine and Shawn are the only memorable characters from this season to me, only ones that kept me interested with their interesting relationship. Didn’t care for the rest of the new cast since some of them are just copies of characters from the previous seasons.... but not as well executed.
Honestly Amy and Samy make me so sad because they had a lot of potential. Like, Amy doing something to a contestant, then blaming Samy and most people believing Amy expect for a few seeing through her lies would have worked fine with me..
Man this season was such a dud. While I still think All-Stars is worse overall, this season has SO MANY interesting ideas that were either wasted (Amy being a more competent villain), rushed (Sammy growing a backbone) or just completely botched (Scarlett as a nerd antagonist, something that hadn't been done before in Total Drama). And not only did Chris get way too sadistic as you pointed out, but he didn't even suffer any major karma for it. At least at the end of Revenge of the Island he got arrested and sent to jail. And the Dave/Sky arc... holy shit. Not only was that the worst romantic subplot in the show, it was one of the worst subplots period.
Preach about Scarlett! A nerd villain would've been so interesting but she was just thrown over the deep end. It's as if the writers forgot what show they were writing for.
I rarely felt this uncomfortable watching a season/show to be honest. Almost every single character in this season made me so unbelievably irritated and/or uncomfortable, there were some good moments there like the twins the zombie guy and all but there was definitely too much crap going on. I also enjoyed watching Chris and his descend to madness, I actually think it was fun watching him go from someone with sadistic tendencies to a complete power hungry criminal and I wish it was explored more by showing his personal struggle with fame going to his head or something. Just a little bit since he was never meant to be the center of the show, but going a bit more into it would have been nice.
I didn't think the season was that old either (as in 2014), maybe it was so bad that people thought it was a fan made or a recent season xd I think his main problem is his duration.
Some of the interesting characters eliminated early, the villians were annoying and really happy aussie girl and zombie dude stayed for long time because otherwise i couldnt finish the season.
I think that the characters could be more developed in terms of relationships and personalities. Topher- one-note.... total filler Beardo- one-note... I think they tried to redo B, but wasn't effective. Glad he was booted first Leonard- one-note ... while i wouldn't love real magic (or anything too fantastic) in the season, maybe a hint of something he did right, but didn't know how it happend (ergo, a bit or magic ;) ), could been cool. Maybe something that could be done very early that impact the season entirely, such as discovering the tech-island Amy and Samy- these two had potential. Amy had the potential to be the Heather of the season, as she could mess up with everything and blame her sister for it. Sad these two had to go waaay early Rodney- he had the potential to be the uber-romantic character of the series, maybe some humor added like Owen Ella- loved the character, even if it was unrealistic. Skye- I think she was very flat.... maybe its an unpopular opinion. Her personality resembles like a lesser version of Zoey. Her script was based on winning or Dave... maybe the proble was that she was paired with him. Max- he was ok, but a little one-note Jasmine- good character Shawn- good character, but the zombie theme was a little overexploited. Sugar- well, while she was annoying... it was a character that made a good balance in the cast. Scarlett- WTF!? She was great before that dramatic twist. Imo, Scarlett represented those teens who are super obsessed with school and science, which I can relate to an extend (which it was one of the reasons why the 1st cast is so loved, you could relate to any of them). So, Scarlett actually was designed like the 1st cast... a teen, with a relatable personality... and then BUM! Ruined the character (and the season for that matter). Dave- oh... god... I think they tried to add a weakling again (such as Cameron or Cody), but took it to the extreme, and added a shitty personality.
As for the plot, the twist with Scarlett really gave us something we didn't wanted! One of the problems with this season (as well as Revenge of the Island) is that the cast does not show a lot of that "camping" experience, and so, interaction among them. The first season excelled on their experiene as teenagers living in the wild for a while, but these guys lived in crazy town, with robots, toxic wastes and other shenanigans. I would say that simpler settings are fine, simple plots are fine as well. I mean, the biggest deals with the 1st cast was... OMG! Heather kissed Trent! These guys had to just run for their lives because a crazy lady wants to dominate the world or a mutant rat want them for dinner. They DO NOT need a hyper villanous character either.
I liked seasons 1, 3, 5, and 7. All of the others were kinda crap. Action was fine, revenge of the island was bearable, but Pakhitew and total dramarama sucked ASS. I said seasoned as regular numbers, so no one would get confused. Y’all can stop being big babies now.
I think that Rodney's character itself definitely had potential. They could have implemented a lot of his physical characteristics into a character similar to DJ, take his country upbringing to make him a more awkward yet strong and likable character like Brick or DJ. If you look at most of the contestants for this season, you can see that a lot of their characteristic traits and value are just being silly or goofy. And although that can be done right, for example; Sierra or Izzy. But here it doesn't work because almost EVERY character is silly or goofy. It's like taking the entire cast of TDI and just making them all insane like Izzy. Yeah sure a specific contestant might be cartoonish but so is everyone else. It just dulls out the season itself with the over exaggeration
Me and my friends always joke that Chris is some type of godly entity. • Characters that do things that would certainly kill them in Chris’ presence end up fund (Trent eating deadly blowfish in season 1) • He can set up terrifying nightmares of game show challenges without getting sued • Chef always seems to stay by his side, like an archangel
I know this is late but I did really like Beardo, despite him being a gimmicky character that would've gotten annoying overtime. I do think they should bring him back and keep the same concept of him being shy and communicating with noises until he's comfortable but do it in a way where it's less random and more like a way of speaking through actions and emotions. Then get serious and have small talks where he slowly opens up to the other contestants. They could've also made him cunning and not in an evil way but more like using his sounds to confuse the enemy contestants and hiding it was him like he did with pretending Sugar farted. They could also give him some sort of power like some of the contestants where when he makes noises it's almost random in how they'll act. Like you said in the weakest character video you made, for example when he made a car crashing sound and shook everything around him and fell of the toilet it would be cool to see that, like his powers work but only effect him positively or negatively and he starts off random with the noises being inconsistent making both bad and good things happen to him but soon hones it as he develops as a person. Yes he was a gimmicky character but I genuinely think he had a lot potential to be interesting if they just were more creative with him.
I remember when this season first came out when I wasn’t able to watch the first episode because for some reason my cable box wasn’t working so I ended up crying on the side of the bathtub while my mom tried to get me to stop crying over a cartoon

Yknow, for me, as nasty as Sugar was, I'll give her pass only because she at *least* had more character than say, Beardo. They really used the inspiration for her to their advantage, even if it wasnt exactly the best inspiration. We all know this type of girl. We can see this type of girl on tv. If they hadn't been so burnt out on doing seasons of Total Drama, I really do believe she could've been much more interesting.
Pakhitew island was a pretty...good but at the same time more like a random season imo, also the lack of contestants was kinda short, but as i watched it i was kinda getting into it, i actually liked Beardo because of his funny sounds and stuff, but it did make sense why he got kicked first for not helping at all, but all in all it was a good season, mostly depends how people see it, hope the next new seasons are exciting
I would say they could have used that a bit more…but then again the “accidentally hurting things” thing was already worn out in season 3 with the dog mummy curse.
I just finished this season and I’m so surprised not a lot of people like this one. I know there’s writing issues and all that but honestly it’s enjoyable! It’s one of my favorite seasons!

The only thing I liked about this season was Ella’s elimination. She left with a smile AND managed to annoy Chris till the very end. It’s one of the most positive and satisfying eliminations in the whole series.

I’ll admit, in the early episodes she annoyed me as much as Sugar or Leonard. However, when she was the only real crazy on her team (other than the moderate Sugar), she actually pulled weight and was seriously useful.
Seeing her go actually made me disappointed, but dear goodness her goodbye was fantastic and optimistic of her despite all she went through.
I genuinely hope she actually makes a return in later seasons for more development. Y’all know the characters of this season could use development

The fact that he's based on Blackwolf the Dragonmaster is hilarious (and surprising as well, considering Blackwolf is quite obscure), but that doesn't make Leonard enjoyable to watch at all in the actual show. The attempt at humour this season was so bad.
He's also not a LARPer like they say - he actually seems to legitimately believe in the fantastical stuff he does and represents, rather than simply using as role play.

My only hope for the new seasons is that the writers really seemed to course correct in Ridonculous Race. There was a good mix of characters who were insane caricatures but also had relatable human moments that I feel the Gen 2 and 3 casts really don't have.

@Enrique Flores I never liked the common false exaggeration and misconception that many fans constantly make that Dave "tried to kill Sky" in the finale. Sure, Dave had his problems (and did take enjoyment in harming her), but he wasn't trying to attempt murder. Plus, it would completely ruin the point of wanting to burn his share of the prize money to spite Sky in the first place. Some people make the claim that he just completely broke down at that point and wasn't thinking about his plan to burn the money being cohesive, but I still think saying he tried to kill her is definitely a stretch.
Dave did have a mental breakdown, but he isn't a completely bad person at heart, as most of the pre-merge showed us, and in addition to his feelings of resentment towards Sky at least being somewhat understandable.

Something I notice is that the earlier seasons focus more on teenager stereotypes, and PI has more...well, general stereotypes that are really in your face. There's even teen stereotypes in the race season, like the adversity twins and the goths, that make at least entertaining, if not compelling characters that would've been good characters on an island season.
Making Ella a Disney adult or theater kid, or Max a future chemistry major, or showing more of the twins' school spirit to drive home the point that they're popular cheerleaders? I think that might've improved the season a lot.

I think all this would've just been benefited with more episodes to show these aspects of the characters. Cause everything you mentioned sounds good and can easily be put in, I'm sure the writers know. It's just unlike the first 3 seasons, less episodes so less time to focus on characters outside challenges. At least that's how i felt about this and revenge when rewatching the series in a binge a couple years ago. Also smaller casts so there were less "not MAIN characters of the season but also not elimination fodder" characters either. Revenge and Pahkitew just have too few characters and moves too quick so there's no time to really get a feel for anyone that doesn't make it far or has a focused on dynamic
Some stereotypes for the new seasons could definitely be the quiet, soft spoken one, popular loud one (not annoying enough to where her character is just yelling, just an exaggerated version of popular teen girls), I'm not sure what they'll do about the LGBT characters because they can't be stereotypical or they'll get backlash but I think making them have individual personalities that have nothing to do with then being LGBT would work and in general alot of teen stereotypes by today. The World has changed alot

It had alot of major flaws compared to the previous seasons. Results were disappointing when i thought Amy was suppose to be the main antagonist.
Shawn (and Jasmine) is the only reason why I willingly go back to watch this season. I love how Shawn goes from a one dimensional guy who’s paranoid of zombies to a guy who’s conflicted if he should stick with his usual ways or to let his guard down and make new connections. I was ecstatic when he won this season he deserved it!! 💙💖

Personally I feel like they could’ve done so much with Ella and her motivation to get the Million dollars. In her audition tape she mentioned that she lived in an apartment with her family and I’m assuming a low quality one that that due to her thin walls. That could’ve implied her family was at a financially bad place which could’ve been her motivation for the Million.
Another motivation could’ve been that her mom/dad was a terrible parent due to stress and let it out on her growing up which is why she is quite childish and wants everyone to be happy and peaceful. It could’ve been an after effect of some form of abuse. If she had that as part of her character she could’ve had a motivation and a reason as to why she is the way she is.
I could see her turning to princess movies as a form of comfort for sure. Honestly, Leonard's whole thing could have been revealed to be a coping mechanism for him as well, and if Leonard had been made at least bearable as a character, they could have formed some kind of bond from that.
Thing is TD would never cover that kind of motivation unless it could be made for laughs lol. The abusive parent part i mean. If she were a delinquent type sure, "my pops was a jerk and would say it was 'tough love'" as a throw away line would fit someone like Duncan, but a character like sweet Ella going "my parents are violent, i sing to cope and i need the million to get away from home" is... Tonally not the series strong suit. Your first idea with them just having money issues fits though.

Topher for me is THE biggest miss of the entire series. The idea was so clever, and it was clear Chris had gone of the deep ends since S4

Chris would be temporarily evicted from the show, Topher then uses the show to further anyone he wants while starting to backstab everyone. Ella and Sammy fall for this and get eliminated and Dave also gets eliminated the same he does originally, but Sky, Shawn and Jasmine form their own alliance and soon work against him. With that happening, Scarlett manipulates them to take her side and eventually, things will allow Chris back as the host. Topher is disqualified and evicted along with Max (with Scarlett scheming that).
Finally, the four conspire against Sugar and get her out the same way. Sky with her belching talent, Shawn with his armpit and Scarlett as well as Jasmine could come up with anything better than Sugar obviously. Then it all comes down to the four, where Scarlett schemed enough to get Jasmine off the competition but then Sky and Shawn scheme back getting Scarlett out much like how Owen and Gwen did against Heather. But this time, Scarlett puts up a physical fight and despite her efforts, Sky beats her. A Sky vs Scarlett would have been an epic reversal of tropes rivalry. While Lightning vs Cameron is the peak of smart and well intentioned brains vs belittling brawn, Sky would have been the supportive and empathetic athlete vs Scarlett, the master manipulating scheming Machiavellian.
Then the Shawn vs Sky finale happens the same as it was.
My main problem with Pahkitew was that the cast was _too_ cartoony(?) I get it’s a cartoon, but the previous casts were characters that I feel like people could relate to or had great character development. Shawn, Jasmine, and Sammy were great parts of Pahkitew. Everyone else was a carbon copy of someone I already knew (like Skye literally being a downgraded Zoe) or too comical.

It's funny with how hard I rooted for them in the beginning before we knew any better, but once the season was over I realized how highkey abusive Dave and Sky's relationship was, from Dave's end.
Guy essentially forced this manifestation of a relationship with her and never let her explain why it couldn't happen, and then when it was revealed why, he blamed HER, when Sky literally tried to tell Dave that she couldn't be with him because she had a boyfriend. He got mad at her for not explaining that to him, yet he stopped her every single time she TRIED to tell him because he didn't want to hear it since it went against his motives. He lived in a fantasy land that, whenever he got a reality check, blamed everything but himself, and it's what wound up being his downfall both in the competition and in his chances with Sky.
If he literally just let Sky explain why they couldn't be together, he ironically enough would've had a MUCH better chance with her since she said she was gonna break up with her boyfriend back home. But Dave let his insecurities get the better of him. A lot of people hate Dave and rightfully so, but him and Sky's arc actually shows a lot about a certain type of abusive relationship.
I've always thought that Sky could've easily just blurted out the truth despite Dave trying to shut her down, and that would've been the end of that fiasco. Not trying to defend Dave though hes shit.
Yeah it could've been a serious reflection of the type of bad relationships many people experience in real life...if it was taken more seriously.
the worst part is that a side of the fandom was trying to make Sky look like she was the one in the wrong, when you like some but you can't be with him you can't just interrupt him to say "i have a boyfriend bye", you need to go easy and take some time to explain if you don't want to hurt him, unfortunately every time Sky tried Dave either interrupted or ignored her. i feel sorry for her.

My sister and I really liked Dave’s character at first, being just an awkward guy who has a crush. He was simple and straightforward, but we felt like that was needed given the rest of cast was so weird this season. We hated his character development tho, that ruined him honestly

Sky could’ve had a better season, and something that goes kinda unnoticed is how Shawn told Dave to try and show Sky he is a good competitor and can be her bf and then it went to point where he started trying to one up her which got her upset. So Shawn didn’t completely do it but he did make Dave think he can get her by trying to one up her. Dave could’ve made it to the final 5 and Shawn, Sky, Dave, and Jasmine could’ve teamed up and got Sugar out and let it go on from there.

dave, sugar, and leonard were the reasons I almost skipped on watching Pahkitew, but I couldn't skip out on Shawn. Shawn was too good.

As a total drama fan, in my opinion this season is the worst (yes even worse than TDAS in my opinion) the cast is just so unlikable with a few exceptions. I specifically despise Dave, Rodney, Lenord and Topher. Scarlet had so much potential to be a unique villian but Scarlett Fever ruined her character for me. I did like Shawn and Jasmine's relationship though

Not gonna lie, I way prefer this season over All Stars. A lot of characters here can still be used and fixed in future seasons, but a majority of the All Stars cast are kind of just ruined forever.

Idk why people always say this, I’ll admit I had that mindset about all stars for a while too but I recently rewatched the season and it’s not THAT bad, just medicore like pahkitiew is. I enjoyed the season. I would say all-stars is the worst season but I think every season is enjoyable enough. I liked pahkitew island because I just watched it for what it was and didn't compare it to other seasons. All the characters were funny or at least entertaining. I just wish we got more time with them so that they could have been more fleshed out and multi dimensional.
My thoughts exactly watching ot first time in my 20s lol. This and Revenge are just victims of smaller cast and episode count. I feel if they wer3 allowed 26 episodes like the first 3 and had more characters to fill that tier of "not a main plot player but a fun loveable character that isnt just elimination fodder" that the first gen cast had, these seasons would feel so much better. But as they are, they just go by too quick

Amy could’ve manipulated Sammy into eliminating contestants like Heather did with Lindsay and Beth, they could’ve had a much longer and better storyline and it would’ve been cooler to see them last longer this way
I really Hope they go back to what made total drama so great a diverse cast of characters there own personalities and each one brings something special to the team. the romance characters need to happen more naturally, and I this is just me I did like the idea in revenge of the island where they know already they are in for some crazy challenging and understand more of chris also with the added bonus we could see familiar fan favorites come in for one episode, for special appearances
Completely agree, couldn’t relate to the characters, Chris didn’t mesh with that pep cast and the challenges felt lazy. This is where I thought total drama was at its end, but I was pleasantly surprised with ridonculous race. Even if it’s not technically a season it’s one of my favorites
Eh, I still think AS is worse for terrible writing. I thought the writing was at least decent in this season after re-watching recently, but yeah, most of the characters aren't very well-written since most of them are either one-note gimmick or one-dimensional. Nonetheless, this is my second favorite season tied with ROTI.

I think I'd prefer it if they just had another Ridonculous Race season, I loved seeing the unique challenges it had (and a fresh change from Chris as the host) and loved the character interactions; the bieber kid and his dad, the goths (of course), the step brothers. Whether it's new or returning cast I feel like there's a lot more opportunities for characters and ideas
Yeah I was so disappointed after years had gone by and a second season of Ridonculous Race never came out. I wanted to see the old tennis guys again.

I really like the cartoon character shape you chose.
Every time I see Jasmine, I am disturbed by how tall she is.
I feel like all the characters this season were too caricature-based and they could've had so much opportunity to branch a lot of them out, but the only ones who felt like they were the "main characters" were Sky, Shawn, Sugar, Jasmine, Dave, sometimes even Max to an extent. I thought having Scarlett as a surprise villain could've been a bit more of a natural process and then her elimination being a bit later after the reveal so we can see her "potential", because immediately booting her off just for a 1 episode concept of her going insane feels kind of weird. One of my problems is that they made it WAY too obvious who was going to last long and who wasn't from the beginning to the end, I thought it was obvious Ella, Beardo, Leonard and Amy weren't going to last long.
Another thing they could've done was utilize the twins more, I thought Amy getting her karma was definitely good but they could've made her arc stronger in terms of being able to manipulate her sister, playing the game deviously, and occasionally being snarky or rude instead of being downright unnecessarily cruel to Sammy the whole entire time. There was a lot of opportunity and the season felt so corny and campy.

The only things i enjoyed about this season was Jasmine and Shawn. Jasmine was interesting and Shawn's apocalypse paranoia was ok but the thing that made it a cool aspect of his character is he was actually useful because of it. And like like both of their character designs. Also. Topher and Chris's interactions were amusing too. It was a really fun idea that i loved.
Jasmine and Shawn are the only memorable characters from this season to me, only ones that kept me interested with their interesting relationship. Didn’t care for the rest of the new cast since some of them are just copies of characters from the previous seasons.... but not as well executed.
Literally 11 of the 14 characters were pure filler - and I don’t think I’m exaggerating.
It’s been a year… I’m still waiting for these seasons.
Honestly Amy and Samy make me so sad because they had a lot of potential. Like, Amy doing something to a contestant, then blaming Samy and most people believing Amy expect for a few seeing through her lies would have worked fine with me..

Man this season was such a dud. While I still think All-Stars is worse overall, this season has SO MANY interesting ideas that were either wasted (Amy being a more competent villain), rushed (Sammy growing a backbone) or just completely botched (Scarlett as a nerd antagonist, something that hadn't been done before in Total Drama). And not only did Chris get way too sadistic as you pointed out, but he didn't even suffer any major karma for it. At least at the end of Revenge of the Island he got arrested and sent to jail.
And the Dave/Sky arc... holy shit. Not only was that the worst romantic subplot in the show, it was one of the worst subplots period.
Preach about Scarlett! A nerd villain would've been so interesting but she was just thrown over the deep end. It's as if the writers forgot what show they were writing for.

I rarely felt this uncomfortable watching a season/show to be honest. Almost every single character in this season made me so unbelievably irritated and/or uncomfortable, there were some good moments there like the twins the zombie guy and all but there was definitely too much crap going on. I also enjoyed watching Chris and his descend to madness, I actually think it was fun watching him go from someone with sadistic tendencies to a complete power hungry criminal and I wish it was explored more by showing his personal struggle with fame going to his head or something. Just a little bit since he was never meant to be the center of the show, but going a bit more into it would have been nice.

I think that the characters could be more developed in terms of relationships and personalities.
Topher- one-note.... total filler
Beardo- one-note... I think they tried to redo B, but wasn't effective. Glad he was booted first
Leonard- one-note ... while i wouldn't love real magic (or anything too fantastic) in the season, maybe a hint of something he did right, but didn't know how it happend (ergo, a bit or magic ;) ), could been cool. Maybe something that could be done very early that impact the season entirely, such as discovering the tech-island
Amy and Samy- these two had potential. Amy had the potential to be the Heather of the season, as she could mess up with everything and blame her sister for it. Sad these two had to go waaay early
Rodney- he had the potential to be the uber-romantic character of the series, maybe some humor added like Owen
Ella- loved the character, even if it was unrealistic.
Skye- I think she was very flat.... maybe its an unpopular opinion. Her personality resembles like a lesser version of Zoey. Her script was based on winning or Dave... maybe the proble was that she was paired with him.
Max- he was ok, but a little one-note
Jasmine- good character
Shawn- good character, but the zombie theme was a little overexploited.
Sugar- well, while she was annoying... it was a character that made a good balance in the cast.
Scarlett- WTF!? She was great before that dramatic twist. Imo, Scarlett represented those teens who are super obsessed with school and science, which I can relate to an extend (which it was one of the reasons why the 1st cast is so loved, you could relate to any of them). So, Scarlett actually was designed like the 1st cast... a teen, with a relatable personality... and then BUM! Ruined the character (and the season for that matter).
Dave- oh... god... I think they tried to add a weakling again (such as Cameron or Cody), but took it to the extreme, and added a shitty personality.
As for the plot, the twist with Scarlett really gave us something we didn't wanted!
One of the problems with this season (as well as Revenge of the Island) is that the cast does not show a lot of that "camping" experience, and so, interaction among them. The first season excelled on their experiene as teenagers living in the wild for a while, but these guys lived in crazy town, with robots, toxic wastes and other shenanigans.
I would say that simpler settings are fine, simple plots are fine as well. I mean, the biggest deals with the 1st cast was... OMG! Heather kissed Trent! These guys had to just run for their lives because a crazy lady wants to dominate the world or a mutant rat want them for dinner. They DO NOT need a hyper villanous character either.
I liked seasons 1, 3, 5, and 7. All of the others were kinda crap. Action was fine, revenge of the island was bearable, but Pakhitew and total dramarama sucked ASS.
I said seasoned as regular numbers, so no one would get confused. Y’all can stop being big babies now.

I think that Rodney's character itself definitely had potential. They could have implemented a lot of his physical characteristics into a character similar to DJ, take his country upbringing to make him a more awkward yet strong and likable character like Brick or DJ. If you look at most of the contestants for this season, you can see that a lot of their characteristic traits and value are just being silly or goofy. And although that can be done right, for example; Sierra or Izzy. But here it doesn't work because almost EVERY character is silly or goofy. It's like taking the entire cast of TDI and just making them all insane like Izzy. Yeah sure a specific contestant might be cartoonish but so is everyone else. It just dulls out the season itself with the over exaggeration

• Characters that do things that would certainly kill them in Chris’ presence end up fund (Trent eating deadly blowfish in season 1)

I know this is late but I did really like Beardo, despite him being a gimmicky character that would've gotten annoying overtime. I do think they should bring him back and keep the same concept of him being shy and communicating with noises until he's comfortable but do it in a way where it's less random and more like a way of speaking through actions and emotions. Then get serious and have small talks where he slowly opens up to the other contestants. They could've also made him cunning and not in an evil way but more like using his sounds to confuse the enemy contestants and hiding it was him like he did with pretending Sugar farted. They could also give him some sort of power like some of the contestants where when he makes noises it's almost random in how they'll act. Like you said in the weakest character video you made, for example when he made a car crashing sound and shook everything around him and fell of the toilet it would be cool to see that, like his powers work but only effect him positively or negatively and he starts off random with the noises being inconsistent making both bad and good things happen to him but soon hones it as he develops as a person.
Yes he was a gimmicky character but I genuinely think he had a lot potential to be interesting if they just were more creative with him.
I remember when this season first came out when I wasn’t able to watch the first episode because for some reason my cable box wasn’t working so I ended up crying on the side of the bathtub while my mom tried to get me to stop crying over a cartoon

Pakhitew island was a pretty...good but at the same time more like a random season imo, also the lack of contestants was kinda short, but as i watched it i was kinda getting into it, i actually liked Beardo because of his funny sounds and stuff, but it did make sense why he got kicked first for not helping at all, but all in all it was a good season, mostly depends how people see it, hope the next new seasons are exciting

I just finished this season and I’m so surprised not a lot of people like this one. I know there’s writing issues and all that but honestly it’s enjoyable! It’s one of my favorite seasons!
