Major differences between Arcade and N64: Just like Cruis'n USA, running over animals is censored in the N64 version. Unlike USA, animals still show up, you just pass through them. Also like USA, the ending with Bill Clinton in the hot tub is censored in the N64 version. Germany, Egypt and London have their own exclusive music tracks in the N64 version. Moscow is renamed to Russia in the N64 version. Some cars have different names between the versions. Like the Venom SST being called the Serpent in the N64 version. The Orca (which is based on a Porsche 911) was completely redesigned in the N64 version. I guess because of how much the arcade versions looks like the real car. The Moon is a playable level in the N64 version. Islander and Euro House have extended portions of the song cut in the N64 version. Once again like USA, the trophy girl at the end of the race is censored in the N64 version (while the flag girl at the beginning still remains untouched for some reason) Most of the sound effects in the arcade version were taken directly from Cruis'n USA. The N64 version uses most of these sounds too, but it does update some of the sounds. N64 add a crap-ton of cars that aren't in the arcade version like the Tommy, NY Police Car and the Speed Demon.
Nintendo were always censoring their games, the most famous case was Mortal Kombat 1 on the SNES censoring the blood and violence. I'm glad I was a SEGA kid back in the old days because at least SEGA didn't censor their games no where near as harsh as Nintendo did or still do. I never knew until now watching a playthrough of Cruis'n USA that the trophy girl was uncensored in the arcade original, I remember her wearing a grey Cruis'n USA T-shirt on N64.

The Australia level was disapointing, kangaroos do not make a weird "boing" noise when they jump and there was no Mad Max style things going on in the background. On another note, while I like the trophy girl, would prefer a trophy girl from everywhere you raced.
Small detail but they also changed the v8 engine sound to a 6 cylinder engine sound in the n64 version not a bad thing but the n64 version of Cruis’n USA had the v8 sound not sure why they would change that.
They should build a real life version of the underwater highway in Hawaii that would be cool. An underwater highway that allows someone to drive between all of the different islands.
Would be an engineering nightmare, given how seismically and volcanically active the region is. And the channels between islands aren’t a few hundred feet deep like the English Channel, they’re miles deep- 6,000-12,000 feet.

I was born in 1994 and didn't have the pleasure to know arcade machines while they were more widely available, but even during the early to mid 2000s there was a Buffalo Grill to which me and my family would go from time to time and they had the arcade machine in it's cockpit form. So it was litterally the only arcade machine I played as a kid.
Thanks for the video. I always thought pop-up was an issue due to the limitations of the N64 but it looks like even the arcade machine had pop-up which makes me appreciate the N64 port even more. This was definitely a fun arcade series racer which is something you don't see too often nowadays. BTW I have to add Cruis'n USA plays much better with a race wheel. I have the ASCII Wheel 64 and it transforms the way the games plays. It is much less twitchy. It is almost as if it was calibrated to work with an analogue wheel. A must recommendation if you like this series and actually want to play it.
The N64 was actually slightly _better_ when it came to pop-in, believe it or not, it's way less noticeable on most stages. You don't notice it at all when you're going around a bend. Even though USA had the big ol' "ULTRA 64" title screen in the arcade, both games used hardware that predated the 64 itself - with a weaker CPU and custom 3D hardware that worked differently to the 64 itself. Basically the arcade versions had better sound and higher resolution textures (and *way* better controls) but the N64 had a better camera and overall presentation for World. USA had a really crappy port, it's a bit of a miracle that World's port was so good other than the obvious dip in resolution on the cars themselves.
I can remember spamming the double gas pedal trick to win every race. I can also remember there being one of these at my Wal-Mart soon as you walk in and if you unplugged it and plugged it back in really quick, it would give you a free game. There was a Nintendo game at my laundry mat that had multiple games and you could unplug and plug that one too for free games.
