Wutianshan Mining Area is located in the eastern part of Chenxiang Town, Changtai District, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province.
Geographical environment
• Location information: more than 70 kilometers away from Xiamen City and only more than 40 kilometers away from Zhangzhou City.
• Topography: The main peak, Wujianyan Peak, is 1,129 meters above sea level. It is the highest peak on the Xiazhang Plain, with continuous mountains and soft soil.
• Climate characteristics: The air on the mountain is humid, the terrain is rainy, the climate is cool, and the temperature difference between the mountain and the plain is 5-7℃ in the hot summer. It is cool at night. It is rare that ice and snow weather occurs once every ten years in winter.
Mineral resources
• The granite reserves are the largest in southern Fujian and are concentrated. It is famous throughout the country for its high-quality G654 granite. It was once the world's largest main base of G654 granite.
• There are 112 mines with a height of 5 meters to 100 meters in the mining area, and 125 slag dumping points with a height of 5 meters to 30 meters and a waste rock volume of 28 million cubic meters.
Development and Impact
• Development History: Mining began in the late 1980s, with 470 mining pits and an annual output of about 200,000 cubic meters of rough materials, mainly supplying more than 600 stone slab processing companies in the county. It was completely shut down on January 1, 2018.
• Impact on the economy: Mineral development has driven the vigorous development of the local stone processing industry and has become an important pillar of the local economy. At the beginning of 2019, Changtai area had more than 1,300 stone processing companies, but it also caused excessive dependence on a single industry.
• Impact on the environment: Mining has led to the destruction of vegetation on the hillside and soil erosion. The Lindun Creek at the foot of the mountain has become turbid due to factory waste, and the ecological environment has been severely damaged.
Ecological Restoration
• Restoration Measures: Changtai District adopts a new model of "ecological restoration + waste resource utilization + industrial integration", divides it into 5 governance areas, and scientifically restores it according to the principle of "forest where suitable for forest, for cultivation where suitable for cultivation, and for construction where suitable for construction".
• Restoration results: At present, the mine restoration project has completed the construction of forests, grasslands, water systems and other projects in the demonstration area, achieved phased goals, and the former exposed mines have gradually recovered.
Tourist attractions
• Natural landscape: Wujianyan Peak is the best place to watch the ocean, clouds, sunrise, and rosy clouds. There are also scenic spots such as Xiaoyun Lake, Jiangxin Reservoir, and Longtan Shibatan, with pleasant scenery.
• Cultural landscape: Heshan Hall on Wangjian Peak is dedicated to Chunyang Patriarch, and attracts many believers every August 8th.
