  • How to test the purge valve to see if it is stuck open with no tools and without removing it.
How To test if the Purge Valve is Opening and Closing Video: • How To Test Evap Purge...
To test it first unplug it and remove the hose going to the charcoal canister and checking for a vacuum. If a vacuum is felt, then the purge valve is stuck open; if no vacuum is felt, then it is closed. Since it is unplugged, the computer can't send it a signal to open, so it should be closed. The vacuum will be the intake manifold vacuum, which will be a small pull when felt with a finger. This should work on any vehicle and any purge valve. No tools are needed, and it will not need to be removed.

Thank you so much, my valve was broke, no guarantees it fixes my code but my valve was sucking when I unplugged the valve and started it

thanks for the video, it is excellent and clear... I have a question my HHR 2006 turn on the engine light with the Code P0442- Evaporative Emission Control Leak Detected(Small leak), could be the Purge valve stuck open?

Would hitting the insides of the purge valve with MAF cleaner be wise?

I tried it but had to get truck running first or it wouldn’t start theft light also flashed. So when cold it didn’t suck then it started to and when wire disconnected doesn’t seem to suck.
But the hose going to engine seems collapsed so it’s been sucked together

My purge valve only got one hose connected to charcoal canister , no hose to intake manifold. Is it normal? I have a camry 2001

There are two ports. Some purge valves, usually Fords, have a port at the back of the unit, where it is bolted to the engine. All Toyota purge valves I have seen have two hoses.

The engine light will come on and there will be an EVAP code. Also, the vehicle will not pass an emission test.
