  • The first Honda Fireblade was an evolutionary leap forward for sports bikes. It was lighter, faster and handled better than many motorcycles that came before. Shot at Charles Darwin's house in Kent, this is the story of where it all started for this future classic superbike. Shot with Marc Earl at Earl Classics: www.earlclassi...

Back in 1995, my first ever road bike, at the tender age of 24, was a 1994 Fireblade in the 'Urban Tiger' colour scheme. Bought it the same week I passed my test! Great bike. Easy to ride, fast and exciting. What more could you want at that age?

My father had a black one when i was younger. Im 20 now. He installed bigger jets than the stock jets and he had a custom exhaust put on the bike. Man that thing used to fly especially around corners. He enjoyed riding along the mountain with all the cuts and bends. He had a buddy with a busa. On the straight the busa would be ahead of him, but as soon as it came to the corners the firblade would anialate. He had to sell it due to financial circumstances after he got divorced with my mother. He still has his old gsxr biker jacket. The blue, white, black and red. Its the original one. He had many people pull him over and offered him loads of money for the jacket but he refused all of them. It has alot of dust on it now tho. I told him to keep the jacket for me until i get a bike.

I remember that at the time it was the lightest bike of all among the 900 cylinders, best weight/power ratio and best acceleration from 0-400 meters and excellent torque at low revs, despite not having a top speed as absurd as the kawasaki zx 9r. This 1992 model, despite its nice appearance (because of the round headlights), oozes fury by turning the throttle cable and adding gear after gear. Exceptional and reliable! Congratulations on the video!

I had a 2003 Fireblade. My buddy had the 1992. I was surprised how "modern" the 1992 version was when we swapped rides. Although not as capable as my 2001 GSXR1000 with race modifications including the front end tweaked by Rossi's former suspension guy and an Ohlins shock, the 92 Fireblade performed well on the track and road over 10 years later. The Kawasaki 750 of that era was also a very capable track bike. Jordan Szoke in Canada raced it well past its prime against more modern 1000cc bikes and did quite well.

Me too, Firestorm is bike with balls, spitting flames, shooting bombs(Scorpion Titanium Oval Slip On - best exhaust I have ever bought), never had a bike with that much character. You really need to think about how to ride it, more throttle in corner and you are out, because there is not TCS. It is really cheap bike with so much you can get from it.

Great video but I don't think the weight ever went up, maybe you're quoting kerb weight for some and dry weight for others? Mines a 98 and is listed as 182kg dry. By 2000 (929) it was down to 171kg and for 2002 (954), 169kg.
I think this relentless progress is why they remained so popular.

I think they went up from the SC50 to the SC57, but then again, it was the first liter - version where they had to build a completely new engine from the ground up. I myself have a 2000 929 SC44 for about a month now and I'm loving it

The same is true with all of the sport bikes from this era really. Most got used up, crashed, and scrapped. How often do you see a first gen GSXR-750? First gen FZR-1000? etc..
