  • It's back! Adam Savage has always been obsessed with building a walkaround full-size velociraptor costume. In fact, he started this costume build 4 years ago, and at long last will be finishing it with the help of a few collaborators in the workshop. But first, let's recap how Adam got to this point, speed building and experimenting with the movement mechanisms of the raptor way back in 2020.

    Here I am at the worst possible moment in my 56 years. Watching an Adam build because it's what little joy I can garner from this world, and then he explains his " next step " philosophy on making and Life.... Austin, I’m right there with you. Adam and team have gotten me out of several dark times in the past. The passion, creativity and enthusiasm magnetic. I started crafting due to video I saw with a FX makeup artist. I’ve done several Halloween props using the skills I picked up here.
      What worked for me was finding a project that interested me and tried to follow along with the video with the materials that I had on hand. So I was watching Adam problem solve while problem solving my own issues with different naturals than they were using in the video. It was a cool way to bond. Best of luck to you my friend.

      Same! I was wondering why it went down without a word. Those videos actually led to me applying to work for Animax, and they were pretty rude throughout the whole process. I'm guessing that the relationship between them and Tested deteriorated and Animax had them take it down. The editing of this video seems to back that theory up.

    • @Mat_1000
      @Mat_1000 15 дней назад +3

      @@Android_Steed That's something like that, that I suspected too. When I saw the whole series of videos disappearing and Tested not giving any explanation nor making any comment about it, I suspected that maybe it has something to do with rights problems, or maybe Tested revealed too much of Animax' techniques and Animax didn't want other companies to copy them.
      Maybe they settled an agreement not to talk about the whole subject for 4 years and that's why it's resurfacing now. Time whithin which people would have forgotten about what was in the original videos on the techniques used to make the skin etc...

    Build the neck portion like the tail and replace the three threaded rods with thicker bowden (bicycle) cables to operate the way the head moves. The tilt and the up/down is near the upper most neck vertebrae but the side to side movement is more of a motion which lives in all seven neck vertebrae...

    Is this the return of the long gone series of videos? I'm on lunch and don't have time to watch it now, I'm so excited!!!
    quick scan of the video and I saw it indeed is, I see they removed the making of the skin/scales. probably the part that caused problems with the original videos.
    so cool.

    Agreed. Weight is the enemy of costumers. Always the challenge to create the illusion of heavy materials without incurring the actual heaviness restricting and weighing down the performer balanced with trying to insure the durability of the costume itself, so it doesn't fall apart when worn.

    I’ve dreamed of having a raptor costume like this, since I watched the special features, on the Jurasssic Park dvd, when I was five.
    Amazing to see the process of making one.

    The technique on the foam rolling it over to give you a round edge is very cool. So that you don’t get your fingers all sticky and also fight with your finger sticking down. Try a Teflon coated rod.

    I totally get you on the "put the ruler aside" thing. Sometimes, especially when dealing with things that involve certain constants like pi, you need to ditch the ruler and just use geometry.

    Wow, sick build! I love it. Might I suggest having the mouth held closed (spring or elastic) and have the lever open it instead of closing it?

    Just yesterday, I was watching those compilation videos of building and construction tecnology and tools, and they showcased 2 items I thought would be pefect for cosplay use. One was a fan helmet and vest for cooling, and the other was an exoskeleton for supporting neck, shoulders and arms for long periods of time.
