Just to make things super clear: the opening cinematic quip is a quote from H.P. Lovecraft's "The Festival." It's a direct quote - he wrote "are digged," and it's an artistic liberty to keep it as it was written. The reading goes beyond just the game, Mayo. You have to read... IN REAL LIFE. 😏

The thing about the fakeout ending is that to me it seems pretty obvious that it's not the end. If it sends you back to the main menu and everything looks different, then that's the sort of signal (haha) that things have changed and you should check them out. Other than that I'm really happy you loved this game and like another commenter said I think the title/thumbnail implies that you disliked more than you did. Survival horror is alive in 2022 and it's goddamn amazing.

In terms of item management, I think Signalis should’ve borrowed from RE1R a little bit more and have the items that are used for the secondary equip slot not take up inventory, but make the consumables weaker to compensate. I hardly ever used the consumables because of how little space I have for them, and the modules just feel like they should be a permanent upgrade for Elster. The photo module specifically is a neat idea, but if it’s gonna take up space, I’m just gonna use my phone.

I liked Signalis but the little things you mentioned prevent it from being perfect in my eyes. The doors not opening is one of the worst. I took damage several times because of this. I agree 100% with your suggestion about the flashlight as well. Using the inspect option, I kept pushing the button to see if there was something on the object and it only made me exit the menu and select another item. It's a shame it's such a useless feature...

About the Fake Ending. I too was also initially mislead by that. However, i didn't choose the Begin option, i selected Quit. because it was late at night and i had to go to work the next day. It still, however, brought me back into the game. i haven't tried the other two, but i would assume the same outcome happens. choosing quit, but having the game put you directly back in would make anyone curious. especially with a different title background.

I kid you not. I keep the photograph with me throughout the game, limiting my inventory to only 5 and it didn't pay off. I'm kinda disappointed not gonna lie but still a great game and I didn't have that much problem with having only 5 slots since I never took ammo or health with me unless I'm sure which room I want to take a fight like bosses or hallways that I take often.
The problem I really have is like you mentioned. I, too, have took bunch of cheap hits at the door because it wouldn't simply open a lot of times especially in Sierpinski and Apartment area. There's also a lot of times the enemies are too close to the door that I got hit right after entering the room without any time to parry as well. I avoid combat for the most part for the first half of the game but fed up with it and turn into doomguy by the Nowhere area with tons of ammo I stocked up even in survival difficulty. (somehow, I still got the promise ending) Stun gun is the most broken item because you can multi-hit enemies which saved a lot of ammo. And being able to parry most hit(when it works) definitely helps, too.
Btw, new updates put in the option to have more inventory slots or another option to have modules use separate slot but keep the 6 slots the same. This would help new players a lot. The only thing I think I would want is melee weapon to prevent getting soft-locked or forced to die in boss encounter.

I think it takes aspects of both RE and SH and improves on both of them. The narrative had me engaged throughout my 3 or so playthroughs.
One thing it objectively does better is that the tense feeling is never lost while playing the game. RE has voice lines that can ruin the atmosphere and this applies to SH with some of its characters.

The gameplay is super unique and it has some really good and fun explanation Imo.

It’s a game that went under the radar sadly.

Mayo, are you planning on trying out the Evil Within? Have you ever considered it? I really think you should, because I'm interested in hearing your opinion on that game. It's a perfect balance between Resident Evil, Silent Hill and even Dead Space (to an extent). That game clearly took a ton of inspiration from those games, and I think you'd quite enjoy it. Anyway, that's my recommendation. I hope you see this.

I finished signalis in survivor a few days after it came out and... I had some mixed feelings on it.
I think the game is really solid, but I didn't get hooked on the story the same way you did. The game requires too much reading for my taste and some of its long exposition really hampers the pace.
I am also not a fan of the very limited inventory space. I am usually a hoarder in these types of game and by the halfway point I was usually carrying only a single loaded weapon and a stack of healing items (plus any required puzzle item needed for specific areas) and I was constantly having to make mutiple trips to get all the loot. I eventually dropped the health item to make more room and still needed multiple trips, while avoiding enemies whenever possible and burning tough enemies in main paths. Ended up with massive stacks of unused ammo and healing by the end game.
So I guess the game doesn't want you to pick everything up? Or engage more in combat? But that's kinda dumb because resources are limited... I don't know, the balanced seemed off to me, while incentivizing tedious backtracking to get all the items in each area.

The bane of g4merz, reading the equivalent of 20 actual pages over the course of a 12 hour game, how could the developers expect so much of us?
In all seriousness, notes aren't that many, at most there should be the equivalent of 20 life sized pages, including dialogue, taking into account it's an isometric game, there really isn't much they could have done with environmental storytelling. Full voice acting would hurt the game super hard. The atmosphere was very much built with the lack of voice acting in minds. Everytime i hear character in modern "horror" game talking to themselves, half of the tension disappear because... THAT'S HOW HUMAN ALLEVIATE TENSION: BY MAKING SOUND. It also make the game more personal since you assign voice to each characters yourselves. The game is meant to be visual poetry to capture specific emotions, not a plot so this level of personal engagement work so much better.

Hey Mayo, I really love your content but I wanted to give you "my opinion" about your way of expressing yourself. You are good at deconstructing every aspect of games/movies and providing deep analysis on subject, but your general style of staying in the middle ground, being "respectful" to all points of view is what's keeping you from being truly entertaining to watch. As the comment below said, sometimes you force your criticism, maybe to seem like a professional critic, but the truth is - you're a youtuber and it would've been much more pleasing to hear it seamless through your "story" about a subject, not just splitting it on "that I like, that I don't like". Like I understand why you took down your original video on TAG2, being the face of youtube Doom community and in contact with the developers, but that video was the most honest and powerful than any, even tho I agree it was not made with clear head, but that is what many of us felt deep down, and your re-upload was soooo dull and bland in comparison, but more "professional", of course. And at the same time you make it very personal and passive-agressive when your expectations about Sifu were ruined. So, decide who you really want to be, cause you can't catch two birds. You have an amazing voice with a strong knowledge on how to deliver yourself (aside from humor, but that's also imo), but the actual delivery is not for the first group of people, neither it for the second.
Also, sorry for my mistakes and thanks for everything you're doing!
