Underrated part of the game. It's the last time you get to explore and interact with Tazmily before it's corrupted. You know something bad is coming but you're powerless to do anything as salsa.
I think the sadder part is that as Salsa you witness the corruption begin firsthand by seeing a side of the villagers that only an unbiased outsider can truly observe.
Salsa isnt a human, he is an 'other'.
As a result: Salsa's treatment by Fassad is permissible because it is an unknown element to the townsfolk. Salsa's plight and 'humanity' are not acknowledged by anyone beyond the main characters, the rest of the town is apathetic. When Salsa is shocked, it is okay, he is an animal and Fassad 'owns' him. Fassad urges the people to seek pleasure and disengage from the world around them.
What starts with acceptance of salsa being shocked for being disobedient eventually becomes acceptance of the lightning that comes down from the sky and shocks the homes of the people who are disobedient.
There's a lot of stuff that I didn't really get the first time I played until afterwards when I spent more time thinking about it. Sometimes Mother games do silly things like Trout Flavored Yogurt, but other times the choice of including an odd element is absolutely intentional and integral to the overarching story.
@@2jk89sx I never noticed the parallel between the lightning shocking the people and Fassad shocking Salsa. That's awesome.
@@2jk89sx yeah I think another reason why the townsfolk don't seem to really care about salsas treatment is the fact tazmilly is a traditional farming town, and livestock aren't treated all that well (I mean compared to factory farms they have it better but still)
They probably also don't really realize the magnitude of his torture since they can't psychiclly communicate with him like Lucas and kumatora can and don't recognize the technology of the punishment device
@@2jk89sx Now, Kumatora PK Thunder'd Fassad to feel the same pain as what he did to Salsa, at least in the battle where you fight him.
wanna know something fucked up?
this song is ragtime osohe being played in a minor key.
wanna know something even more fucked up?
an even more distorted version of this plays while fighting porky at the end of the game.
I love how this song portrays what's happening in the story here. As Salsa, you're basically becoming the catalyst for Tazmily's doom in giving them the happy boxes, and the realization that should be coming to the player's mind comes in time with the song changing its tone. It starts of with the playful instruments used to represent Salsa in chapter 3 (the woodwinds and the accordion) but then the song shifts to add the dreadful baseline and constantly held violin note, foreshadowing what is really happening to the town and what will become of it because Salsa is listening to Fasaad. I might be overthinking it, but I really like to consider how music effects a story's tone and gameplay
Dudeeeeee you are right, poor Salsa started everything by delibering this happy boxes. I mean, its not his fault and he's following orders but he is starting a change on Tazmily and, sadly, he cant do anything about it. Replaying this game was one of the best decisions I had this month.
You're also more on a spectator note, since salsa is just a little monkey and cant do anything to help
@@dr.zapatoso7220when salsa fights enemies it highlights abusive relationships really well. You're relying on your abuser to save you because you're to powerless to do anything
A lone monkey, beaten and battered by a cruel master delivers the happy boxes not for himself, but for love. Fight on little guy.
As someone who grew up with a abusive dad and Mother 3 i always sympathized with Salsa more than most people as a kid because in a way, i saw myself in this monkey being forced to do manual labour, constantly berrated, punished and starved
Lucas says: the industrial revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race
Underrated comment ♥
This song portrays well the sadness and slavery of poor Salsa...
I feel like this song would have impacted even more in Earthbound 64; the peaceful Tazmily theme is turned into this in this segment, making the player realize Tazmily's corruption in a much more obvious way, with how a completely different song with the same leitmotif is used.
This music makes me want to cry. This game makes me want to cry. It's so painful because it's so close to what we experience and what's happening to us in this reality. Mother 3 will always be a masterpiece lost to time and sadly missed by many people who play video games. There's something magical about Mr. Itoi's creation.
While I enjoy the sentiment I find it hard to agree with the 'lost to time' statement seeing how the series has been kept alive by the Smash Bros line of games
@@Onigirli i guess they didn't mean the popularity of the series rather it's limited reach of the original game where it was never localized for international regions, and so many never got to play it
Holy shit so this is what that song from Pokémon uranium came from
hold on i never played pokemon uranium was this actually in there
@qwerty4012 yeah its amatree village theme
The Hotel Yadoo theme is also (mostly) the same song used in Venice-inspired city theme in Pokémon Uranium. Can you remind me the city's name? It's been a while since the last time I played PU
Ah yes,
The only monkey song on earth that makes people feel things. Salsa deserved better :(
Jokes aside, super good restoration! Always looking forward to your stuff ^^
Luckily, at least Kuma and Wess let the monkey out from the clutches of Fassad's hands.
I’m actually here because I first heard it in Amatree Town in Pokémon Uranium, and then I found out it was ripped from an Earthbound game. One video led me to another and… the rest is history.
That oboe is so sick!

Oboe... oshoe... connection?
I've been looking forward to this. And I'm not disappointed in the slightest.
Amazing job dude
How did I never notice this song switches to 5 bar and 9 bar groupings?! It's like there's an extra bit of anticipation for each new segment. Maybe it was written to match with the 'just one more parcel to go...' slog feeling in that section of the game.
Great work with revamping this track, the flutter of that original source flute is fabulous.
Around when does that happen?
@@notme437 The key is to listen for the two long accordion notes that mark each bar.
The song starts with a 2 bar intro:
1-2-3-4, 2-2-3-4
Then the melody kicks in at 0:03 for a group of 4 bars and then 5 bars:
1-2-3-4, 2-2-3-4, 3-2-3-4, 4-2-3-4,
1-2-3-4, 2-2-3-4, 3-2-3-4, 4-2-3-4, 5-2-3-4
(the 5th extra bar has a fluttery accordion fill)
0:19 Pattern repeats:
4 bars,
5 bars,
0:35:
9 bars
(it's still 4+5 bars, but I'd say you could call this a 9-bar group since the melody and chord movement feels like a long, continuous phrase here, but it's subjective)
The bass gets a 2-bar intro, and the pattern repeats once more.
Hope this helps!
@@creativebeetle Genius. So subtle, too!
I love how many times this song is used throughout the game.

I might be overthinking it, but i genuinely belive that salsa represents the working under capitalism. Even if that is not the whiole poit of the character, being promissed luxury bananas that you'll never really get by the guy who literally introduced money to tazmilly is just too perfect of an analogy.
Definitely not overthinking it, everything in this game is symbolic and representative of a much larger concept
@@animalbancho1726 personally, i pick up so many little details and notes every time i play this game. for instance, when Fassad zaps Salsa it symbolises that Fassad is cruel. such genius!
@@redactedinfo8557 lol no one ever called the game subtle, but the symbolism is there. even with salsa and then Fassad being the one who introduces the concept of money to Tazmily, it’s pretty clear what they’re getting at
It feels like a gray sky with gentle rain. The constant accordion reminds me of the constant running Salsa had to do getting deliveries done for a man who couldn’t care less about him.
This song sounds like something out of a Professor Layton game! It's one of my favorites!! 😊
This song used to be my alarm when I'd have to get up at 8 am. It gave me the will to get out of bed and drink my coffee.

This is a revision of what was the Tazmily theme in Earthbound 64.
My favorite music in the game, and the bass part is what makes me more excited

Finally! I've wanted this restoration for so long and it came out amazing!
i feel like a hole in my heart has been filled. thank you.
Seeing these pop into my sub box is always a great surprise finding out which one is next! This is my favorite track in the game, and your restoration of it is exactly what I hoped it would be! Amazing job as always.

this is later further distorted as part of master porkys theme.
If you think about it, we've never really followed Mario when he's on-the-job as a plumber. Maybe all of the skills we attribute to him, i.e.: running fast, jumping high are his LEAST developed abilities, because he stat-dumped into plumbing intellect.

All my homies hate fassad
Pretty good restoration, though a couple things just feel somewhat off. The bass feels weaker, the bass melody(?) feels like one of the last few notes are wrong, and the weird little chitpune notes that usually come in at around 0:58 are just missing entirely.
Take what I say with a grain of salt, though. I am not the most knowledgeable when it comes to music.
The full bass patch can definitely make it lose that impact the single sampled one the in-game version has, I've found as I've started to work on songs that use it :3 I did try making the bass a bit louder, but in the end I felt like it drowned out the other sounds too much and didn't really benefit the final mix in the end. Also, shoot! I was thinking about including the chiptune delay on the oboe in the second half, but decided against it since it's really hard to make out coming from an actual GBA anyways. I appreciate this feedback greatly though, it really means a lot to me!!! :DD
same bass from No More Nuzzles!!!!!
Another one of my favs :)
Sounded like it was going to turn into a sponge bob background theme
Manual labor: the song
when the guitar comes in I grin
:sohappy: ! !
honestly this easily tops mother 3i just cuz it isn't hyper compressed
not to understate or downplay the amount of work this probably took
I love this theme so much. I feel like Nintendo dont want to release the game to the US is probably because the animal abuse on Salsa and you know how PETA is about that lol
It's kinda sad the part with salsa, if you think about it the segment of salsa in the game represent how corrupt and powerful people use and manipulate weak individuals to do their dirty work with a threat.
Salsa doesn't work because of himself but because porky and the pigmasks has his girlfriend hostage, and he is being manipulated to deliver happy boxes and charm the people of the village that ultimate causes the ultimate demise of their people.
It's so sad to think about that segment with that idea in mind.
