Vologda city Vologda Kremlin

Kremlin Square is the heart of Vologda and its historical center. The first buildings here appeared under Ivan the Terrible.
The architectural ensemble of the square consists of three Orthodox churches and the Vologda Kremlin.
The Vologda Kremlin began to be built in the 16th century for defensive purposes. The total length of the fortress walls then exceeded 3 kilometers. By the beginning of the nineteenth century, most of the fortifications had been dismantled, since the fortress had already lost its value. Today, the Vologda Kremlin is called the complex of the Bishops' Court of the XVII century.
St. Sophia Cathedral is one of the oldest stone buildings in Vologda, preserved to this day. Ivan the Terrible himself participated in its construction. Inside the temple there are frescoes and an iconostasis of the XVII century.
The bell tower of St. Sophia Cathedral has a height of 78 meters and is the tallest building in the city. In the guise of the belfry can be traced imitation of the architecture of ancient Russia.

В этом здании расположена дирекция Вологодского государственного музея-заповедника. Сам домик является "представителем" вологодского деревянного зодчества.
