    So excited for the South Fork to open this year I was sad to hear that it ends on Thursday in Riggins because it’s my favorite place to Salmon fish but the south fork is still a great place to fish to. I believe it opens on Thursday this year. Hopefully you can make it out there and make another great video!

      Riggins was as good as I’ve ever seen it!.. It was apparently too good! At 1 adult per day, it only last a week once the fish got there..

    "I knew this sucker had to be wild, fighting that hard!" Yes, us wild natives had to :) Thanks for showing us that ancient Shoshone hot spot.

    This year you should make a salmon video where you look for a new salmon spot. That would be cool.

      Thats a great idea! Ive always wanted to venture north to fish them on the Clearwater or try new spots in Riggins. It's so jam packed in Riggins though..

    You should show the proper way to release a wild fish by slowly putting it back in to recover though it looked like it wasn't in tough shape.

    Do you by chance do guided fishing? Ive been a fisherman all my life in Minnesota but I’m new to salmon fishing. It looks absolutely amazing! I don’t know where to start...Any chance you could take me along? Haha 😁

      We don't have a guides license, so we can't do any kind of guided trips. My best advice would be to use the rig set up that I show at the beginning of this video. Typically the the best spots on the river will have a ton of cars by them and porta pottys.. It's not really a fish most people can learn to catch over night. It's taken years to nail it down and even now I have days I get skunked. It's getting a good heavy but sensitive rod, good reel, the right line and using a good bait set up. Nothing is more frustrating than when your equipment fails or your line gets broken by a fish. I always use 40 lb mono. Then it's about putting in the hours, learning the river and holes and pounding the water. Once you catch one you'll be hooked for life! Watch the local guys fish and where they fish. Some will give you tips. We brought a lot of cookies in the early days to bribe them, ha, ha!

      Silhouette Outdoors I was wondering why there was random porta potty’s on the side of the road! Thanks for the response and the tips. Maybe I will try to bride the locals with treats haha

      The porta potty's are a dead give away. There are still some salmon in the Boise River that were recently stocked by fish and game to be caught if your still wanting to chase some. Barber park is a good bet. Happy to help and good luck on the water!

    Great video man! I could only hope to drift fish that well one day. Have not had any lick drift fishing

      It’s taken a lot of years of salmon fishing to consistently catch them. Once you figure it out, you can literally feel the fish laying in the hole many times with your line, be patient, and confidence in your bait is paramount! Nothing helps more than putting in the time on the river. You’ll get it, just don’t give up, because it’s so much fun!!

    Looks like you're fishing it a lot higher than I do- was it pretty crowded, or is it a bit of a hike in that leaves the squeamish back at the road? Seems like you have no trouble getting that hole each time. great video, great fish.

    • @SilhouetteOutdoors
      @SilhouetteOutdoors  6 лет назад +1

      Yeah, that hole has become really popular over the past couple of years and its combat fishing most of the time. I do try to hit it during the week when there aren't so many people and I've been lucky to get it all to myself a few times. I do see guys that hike down into that hole that never return after the climb back out. It's not for the out of shape angler for sure. Thank you so much for watching and good luck this coming salmon season! Hopefully we have one this year.

    Hey, about how far down the south fork of the salmon river do you recommend fishing, in regards to the upper and lower boundary? I haven't fished this fishery before. I

    • @SilhouetteOutdoors
      @SilhouetteOutdoors  6 лет назад

      Eric Wong it varies. Early in the season we fish closer to the confluence. Later we fish closer to goat creek about mid way to the weir. There are a ton of good holes through that whole section
