- In this video, I share a few tips on how to keep your beneficial anaerobic bacteria alive in an aquarium without fish, where in the absence of ammonia, both your aerobic and anaerobic bacteria are not likely to survive.

Thank you. Newbe here. I cycled my tank and planned to get fish. Then I decided to take the xtra step and quarantine new fishies. I haven't dosed my tank with ammonia for almost a week. I just did and will check my levels. I may need to add more bacteria. It may have died. Good video.

Thanks for this video. I was ghost feeding my tank but the uneaten food would decay and stick to the aquarium decor. And it was this fuzzy mess. So I decided to stop ghost defending my tank as I do not want to add fish to a tabk with decay food. So I recently added ammonia in a bottle and started dosing the tank to feed my beneficial bacteria and to grow the colonies
Adding ammonia is certainly cleaner as fish food needs to be syphoned as it decays

Thanks for the info. Can I also keep beneficial bacteria by dosing something like Seachem stability or Fluval Cycle in a bucket?
That should work as well!
If I used a temp hob while getting a fx4 cycled, then remove the hob, if I place the bio media (ceramic) from the hob in a porous bag, and then hang said bag in the tank over aeration and water flow, with the beneficial bacteria still thrive?
The bacteria should be fine as long as there are fish in that tank

If I'm seeing Nitrite and a small ppm of Nitrate does that indicate that my fishless cycle is working?
Most likely, as long as your nitrate and nitrite are low it might mean that your bacteria are feeding and alive. If both readings are high then something is wrong

Should be fine for a few hours, try to expose media to air as it needs oxygen to survive
Omg i had a bucket of bacteria from a tank i was given, tank was too big so i was to buy mine. Kept bacteria in a bucket and now its dead. Its been like 4 days exactly that they’ve been without food. Can i still save it? Adding food now
As long as there is oxygen, they can still be alive, so you can certainly try feeding them.
I was able to feed the saltwater bacteria,introduced it into my fishless freshwater and its been 2 days. i have 1.0 ppm of ammonia, 40ppm of nitrate, 0 nitrite and a ph of 6.0. Any suggestions as of what i should do now? Should i water change? Should i wait longer?
@@cristiansofake7854 You just need to continue feeding them and occasionally making small water changes. It seems you have fairly low ammonia there, which probably means that bacteria are feeding
How long time beneficial bectaria live when power cut???
They should be ok for half a day or so, but they will survive longer if exposed to air but still wet

You still have aerobic bacteria living on surfaces, but perhaps not in sufficient amounts. Whether you need more depends on what kind of fish you keep

It will start decomposing and will eventually get covered in fungus
You say anaerobic bacteria , but you really mean aerobic?
Actually, I meant both, because we need both to complete the nitrogen cycle, but I kept on saying anaerobic! I will be adding corrections, thanks for noticing!
