How about putting the ballast in the cement tin with cement, shaking it up and coating all of the ballast and then spreading the ballast rather than just the top layer, that way all the ballast is secure
That is a brilliant idea. I will be using this technique on my railway when it is finally complete.

chicken grits what i use its a bit bigger but if you fill a double bag its probaly the best ballast you can use

Ok till you get hard frosts and. Prolonged freezing.
Falls apart then. More cement needed

why not brush off the rails before spraying water
