Hey awesome review! I'm tossing up between getting the fish beard or the Hayden Shapes Misc. could you tell me the differences you found between the two? and which one offers bigger wave potential?
Hey Noel, thanks for another great review. I have seen a couple of spine-tek fish beards around. Do you think those could work better than the PU versions you tested?
Ripping review as usual Noel thank u! What's your thoughts on riding the NB2 with a twin plus trailer set up? Possibly getting more drive and release like the fishbeard?
cvosburg77 I heard the NB2 goes great with the Twin + Trailer. Not sure it will feel anything like the FB though... the changes are significant enough that they surf completely different. Twin Fins in general draw different lines and no drag from a center fin.
Fishbeard has a more high performance outline keeping the nose free from catching through your carves. I like the Fishbeard better due to its high performance outline.
Awesome review, thing looks sick, I have a black baron that I have been really stoked on recently but the thing can not handle any overhead surf. Do you think it would be worth trying keel fins in it instead of the power twin fins? Or do you think just fully upgrading to the fishbeard for bigger surf is better?
Joey Churchin Get the Al Merrick Keep fins first. You will love them in both boards. After you get the Keel fins sell a different board in your quiver and get the FB so you have two sick Twinies and then you can ride them both and make a solid decision. That’s what I would do. The FB will handle bigger surf for sure... make sure you get it in PU for bigger surf.
For mediocre 1-5 foot beach break, would you pick the Fishbeard or Astro Pop? I was leaning to the Astro Pop, but just discovered the Fishbeard from your vid and it looks sick.
Ivon Pacheco Sorry I have only tried them 1x and they were pretty good. I will try them some more... no opinion on them at this time. Sorry more testing needed for honest feedback.
Hi Noel, Great informative review as always. I have a question for you, I am about the same weight as you so if you wanted this type of board but as a groveller for surfing in small, weak waves around waist to max chest high would you go a bit more volume than your standard HP shortboard?
Hey Noel, I’m 88kg and 6ft tall. My current short board is 38L. I’m at the intermediate level and wanting to keep progressing. Would you think the 6’0 would be too small for me? I enjoy my short board but I wonder if I’m riding too much foam
Here’s a liter range for your weight at different skill levels. Pro/Expert = 31-33L Advanced = 33-35L Intermediate = 36-38L If your catching waves easily then you can drop to 36-37L and get your boards to be more responsive
It’s interesting, on The JS Black Baron... You went a lil’ bit shorter & found it more responsive. On the CI FishBeard, you went a lil’ bit longer & found that to be more responsive. Since they’re both in the performance twin category, what factors come in to play? Design/shape? Fins? Construction? Foam? Etc. Have you thought about putting the AM Keel fins in the JS Black Baron & giving it another go??? I have the CI NB2 5’8x19 3/8x2x7/16 29.7L (I’m frothing in it!!!) If I want to purchase the CI FishBeard... from this review, you’re advising that I should stay with relatively, the same dim’s? And last, but not least... Black Baron or FishBeard??? Sick review as always!!!
Shannon Young The BB goes better shorter due to it having more foam in the nose area. It has a lot of surface area forward so it tends to catch in the nose on my turns if it’s longer in length or if I’m not surfing it off the tail. By the way... I liked the Al Merrick Keels best in the BB review especially backside.. no need for more testing with the AMK fins on the BB they go insane in that board. The Fishbeard goes better longer due to its sleek lines in the front 2/3 of the board. It has the NB2 nose and center so it has the freedom to perform high performance turns with more rail line and not catch in the nose. All this to say it’s a design difference between the BB and FB. Completely different shapes and performance. I thought I made all of this clear in the review..... I prefer the FB for my style of surfing and I also like that I can surf it longer. The longer Twin Fin FB makes it easier for me to transition from board to board because its longer.... same size as my Daily Drivers and only 2” shorter than my HPSB. If you love your NB2 then get the FB roughly the same size.
Black Baron uses a more upright twin template so its more pivoty. The fish beard being a keel has more drive which is what we all want in a good thruster.
Hey Noel I’m stuck between the 5’6, 26.4 litters and 5’7 , 27.7 litters surfing ny , nj . I usually use 27.0 flat can’t decide which stock board to choose from. I’m 5’7 about 145 pounds intermediate level thank great video !
Antonio Principe You can go Stock 5’6” 26.4 in Spinetek EPS and it will float like 27, or go PU 5’6” at 26.4 stock and it will go good too. The Spinetek will go better
Hey Noel, your reviews are so good, thanks for putting out so many great videos! I was wondering which is your favourite fish? I have been thinking about the Black Baron or the Fishbeard... which would you recommend? ( I can only get one board unfortunately 😭) Thanks again
Not quite on my game at the moment due to not surfing much, but I got this board and gave it a surfs in decent waves. Average board at best (for me that is). I see a fair amount for sale in "new condition", which always says a lot. If you have cash to burn and just want something different in your quiver, it's ok, you'll have some fun on it. It's just not what the hype (excellent advertising:) makes it out to be. This is my personal opinion, others might have a different experience:)
I have the 5.10 fishbeard.. I love it but was thinking of getting a centre plug installed so I can use a nubster fin for extra stability? What's your thoughts noal?
great review - do you think they plan on making this in spine-tek? if so - do you think you would gravitate to that construction or are you stoked on the PU?
Will Davis It will go excellent in Spinetek for 1-4’ surf... and I’m sure you can custom order it. I would be stoked to shred the FB in Spinetek. I heard that CI will NOT be stocking the FB in shops in Spinetek at this time.
I saw Dane Gudauskas ride it with a round tail, how do you think that would ride compared to the swallow? And do you think channels would work well with this board?
Mahon Walsh The Round tail could be really fun.. just adds a bit more hold and wants to carve more. Channels... hmm not sure. Could be good or it might offer too much hold especially with theAM Keels. I’m sure you would have to do some fin testing to dial it. Sounds like fun to me...
Hey! Im currently transitioning out of a 6'0 foamie, with 47l. I am 6'1 75kg, and learned with it. Would you recommend this board to transition to proper boards? I'm thinking a dimension of 6'1 or 5'11.
Board looked so good under your feet you definitely have gotten better at riding twinnies! Also Ik it’s an old fun but I’ve been looking to buy the Ando Blackstix but are there better options now since those came out a while ago?
Noah Stone The Ando’s have too much flex for me. When I push them hard my turns are inconsistent and unpredictable. I really like the Jack Freestone Generation series. A bit stiffer so more predictable and better consistency.
Hey mate, great review. I love my twin keel fish but am looking for something with a little more performance without getting another HPSB. I’d like to give the spinetek version a run but not totally sure on volume. I’m 90kg and surf any day I can. Maybe 5’11? Cheers 🤙
I say 36.5-38.5 is a good liter range for you. Spinetek EPS will float like 0.5 liters more than PU. Example.... If a boards volume says 38.5 then it will float like 39 in EPS.
Noel, thoughts on the FB in Spine Tek? I noticed on your review page you gave it lower marks for durability. Do you think you'd bump it up on durability and potentially paddle power if ridden in the Spine Tek?
What would you suggest for glassing? Custom would you suggest spending the money for swapping layers with 2S? being the price I won't something that will last me. Thank you great review!
Beach Runner I would contact the folks at CI I see what they recommend for durability and performance. If you glass it to heavy then you won’t get the performance your looking for.
The FB offers more high performance surfing due to its sleek outline and longer rail line. The BB is more of a Groveler for 1-4’ surf. The FB is best in 2-6’+ surf. I like the FB way better as it suits my style of surfing.
At the 13 minute mark is it just me or do the swallow tail outlines look different? It seems like the one on the right has a deeper swallow. If so why is that? Don’t the shapers use a template? I feel like that would make the boards feel quite a bit different.
Hey great review! I test rode the off the rack 5'6 x 19 x 2'5 1/6 yesterday. 26lts... My normal board I've been surfing is 26ltrs , 5'10 ( can't quit read the dimensions but it's 18 x something 2 x something) Would you think I'd be ok to stick with the 5'6 pu? I was unsure if the 5'7 might be a bit too much volume. I'm about 5'7 58kg Thank you:)
Here are some volume ranges to think about for your weight at different skill levels. Pro/Expert = 20-22L Advanced = 22-24L Intermediate = 25-27L If the 5’6” you tested yesterday paddled you good, and you caught waves easily then go 5’6”…. It’s in your range of you are a intermediate surfer. If you are a lower intermediate surfer then go up to 5’7”
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Awesome thanks very much 👍 😀 I'm perhaps more towards advanced then intermediate, so I'll stick with the 5'6. It will atleast get me started as I navigate the twin fin design :) Felt a very distinct difference jumping back on my thruster today, fealt much slower and more drag. Interesting to observe.

Hey Noel, I’d like your opinion on my choice between two boards. I’m very interested in both the pyzel phantom and the Ci fishbeard. I’m leaning more towards the fishbeard in hopes of having more speed and slightly better in less than perfect conditions as we don’t get amazing waves very often. Hey Noel, quick question, hope you don't mind: if you were only going to buy one set of fins, EN or AM keel, which would you choose for surf up to head high?
AMK have more hold n drive. The EN’s will pivot faster but lack drive and hold is so so backside. In 1-2’ surf I might want the EN’s... keep the board quick n pivotal but in 2-4’ surf I would want the AMK.
For waves over 4’ I don’t recommend either set.... the AMK’s might crack your fin boxes and not enough hold on the EN’S. My HP Keels go mental excellent drive, pivot, hold, and release when you want. . Check them out here. www.shopsurfnshow.com/collections/fins
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Brilliant. Thanks so much Noel. I've just picked up a used FB for £200 and was hoping to get by on one fin set. I've actually bought a set of ENs already but haven't tried them yet - might return them and go keels. Thanks man. Love your work.
Hey Noel! Great review! Your surfing looks awesome on it. Any chance of you doing a review on a Firewire Baked Potato? Would love to see your approach to it. Cheers
bushkey Have you tried the AM Keels? They don’t surf like normal keel fins. The EN’s offered more pivot and other twin fin sets I have don’t offer enough hold to put in most Twin Fins I ride. The more upright fins like the T1, T2, AMT, MR’s type of fins with Trailer fins slide out like crazy for me backside.
Hey Noel, As always Great review! Thanks for covering some of the thoughts you had for the first board that you ended up dialing in by adding some length. How would you size this compared to a neck beard 2 with spinetek but keeping the fish beard PU? I love the get up go and early wave entry of the nb2 and the down the line speed but I think part of that has to do with the spinetek construction.
Mhanny Diaz I like the FB in stock 5’5” dims for 1-4’ surf... if you want to shred it in 2-6’ surf I would add 1” in length for little more rail line to drive through your turns. Keep the width and thickness somewhat the same as the Stock DIMS that suit you best, just add 1” in length.
Surf n Show Reviews damn was hoping you wouldn’t say that, I’m drawn to the twin for the old school 70’s feel and aesthetic. Would you give it the edge in any facet... except coolness 😂 thanks for the info and reviews 🤙
cal searson Nope... not on any level. It’s got a cool classic look but very sticky on turns for me. I rode the CI Fish in perfect 3-4’ surf and it was nearly impossible for me to do a Two Turn combo without it bogging hard in the nose. I gave the CI Fish back to CI and decided not to do the review. surfer Boards with more tail rocker will offer more hold or traction through turns compared to a board with low tail rocker. Most of the time a board with low tail rocker are made for going fast in small waves. If a board has a wide tail and low tail rocker then it’s usually pretty wide and short with concave or covex bottom contours to help that board get on rail.

As always brilliant review and backing it up with great surfing on all the board's you review.I have bought 2 boards from videos thanks to your knowledge and awesome break downs .They both have suited me well..My question is what exactly are the blue fins, size etc? Hey awesome review! I'm tossing up between getting the fish beard or the Hayden Shapes Misc. could you tell me the differences you found between the two? and which one offers bigger wave potential?
Hey Noel, thanks for another great review. I have seen a couple of spine-tek fish beards around. Do you think those could work better than the PU versions you tested?
toubutey I just got a Stock 5’5” Spinetek FB and it’s epic. I even like it in overhead surf!!!

Those are called Ghost Racks
Great review as always! Who’s the dog though? She looks like she’s enjoying a sunny patch in your living room.
Ferdinand Arcinue That’s Roxxy... and yes she is chasing the sunny patch.
Thanks man!
For mediocre 1-5 foot beach break, would you pick the Fishbeard or Astro Pop? I was leaning to the Astro Pop, but just discovered the Fishbeard from your vid and it looks sick.
The Fishbeard would be my choice.
@Nathan I'm in the same dilemma , + the Rusty twin fin ! Did you get the Fishbeard ?
Noel, please, can u talk about Asher Pacey fins! If u use before, if u liked ? Any opinion about it ! Tanks !
Ivon Pacheco Sorry I have only tried them 1x and they were pretty good. I will try them some more... no opinion on them at this time. Sorry more testing needed for honest feedback.

Hi Noel, Great informative review as always. I have a question for you, I am about the same weight as you so if you wanted this type of board but as a groveller for surfing in small, weak waves around waist to max chest high would you go a bit more volume than your standard HP shortboard?
martinwajda I would go Spinetek with same liters. If you don’t like EPS then go up maybe 1/2 liter

How's the board going for you Steve?
How’s that board steve
Stevo! How’s that bloody board maaate
Pro/Expert = 31-33L
Advanced = 33-35L
Intermediate = 36-38L
If your catching waves easily then you can drop to 36-37L and get your boards to be more responsive
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Thank you!
It’s interesting, on The JS Black Baron... You went a lil’ bit shorter & found it more responsive.
On the CI FishBeard, you went a lil’ bit longer & found that to be more responsive.
Since they’re both in the performance twin category,
what factors come in to play?
Design/shape? Fins? Construction? Foam? Etc.
Have you thought about putting the AM Keel fins in the JS Black Baron & giving it another go???
I have the CI NB2 5’8x19 3/8x2x7/16 29.7L
(I’m frothing in it!!!)
If I want to purchase the
CI FishBeard... from this review, you’re advising that I should stay with relatively, the same dim’s?

Antonio Principe You can go Stock 5’6” 26.4 in Spinetek EPS and it will float like 27, or go PU 5’6” at 26.4 stock and it will go good too. The Spinetek will go better
what a epic review Sir Noel! well emphasize.
Hey Noel, your reviews are so good, thanks for putting out so many great videos! I was wondering which is your favourite fish? I have been thinking about the Black Baron or the Fishbeard... which would you recommend? ( I can only get one board unfortunately 😭) Thanks again
I prefer the Fishbeard... more high performance outline. It does not Care ch up front in the nose are.
I think that’s great idea...
great review - do you think they plan on making this in spine-tek? if so - do you think you would gravitate to that construction or are you stoked on the PU?
I highly recommend the Lost RNF 96 to transition from your foam board. Maybe start 36-38L on the 96
Sorry if this has been asked, what do you prefer between the Fishbeard and the FW Seaside?
I prefer the Fishbeard. It offers more performance surfing and I like Twin Fins
Surf n Show Reviews thnx Noel appreciate it 🤙🏼
Hey mate, great review.
Surf n Show Reviews ok great thanks Noel
Thanks for your review Noel. Would you describe the FB as a decent groveler?
Jordi Dalmau Absolutely

Hello Noel, I’m 5’11 185lbs. Usually ride between 32.5-33 liters. Is 5’10 FB right or should I g up a notch. Thanks like always
5’10” sounds solid to me. If go Spinetek it will float like 33L. Either PU/Poly or EPS your hood at 5’10”. The 5’11” might feel to bulky
Noel, thoughts on the FB in Spine Tek? I noticed on your review page you gave it lower marks for durability. Do you think you'd bump it up on durability and potentially paddle power if ridden in the Spine Tek?
CW Rodriguez Yes.. it will be more durable and have more pop for the life of the board too.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Funny enough, my local shop had my size in Spine Tek yesterday when I went to score a leash. Put a down payment on it.
For sure thank you for the reply. Really stoked on ordering this board
How does the fishbeard compare to the black baron from js?
The FB offers more high performance surfing due to its sleek outline and longer rail line. The BB is more of a Groveler for 1-4’ surf. The FB is best in 2-6’+ surf. I like the FB way better as it suits my style of surfing.

At the 13 minute mark is it just me or do the swallow tail outlines look different? It seems like the one on the right has a deeper swallow. If so why is that? Don’t the shapers use a template? I feel like that would make the boards feel quite a bit different.

My normal board I've been surfing is 26ltrs , 5'10 ( can't quit read the dimensions but it's 18 x something 2 x something)
Would you think I'd be ok to stick with the 5'6 pu?
I was unsure if the 5'7 might be a bit too much volume. I'm about 5'7 58kg
Thank you:)
Here are some volume ranges to think about for your weight at different skill levels.
Pro/Expert = 20-22L
Advanced = 22-24L
Intermediate = 25-27L
If the 5’6” you tested yesterday paddled you good, and you caught waves easily then go 5’6”….
Great reviews, thank you. Any noticeable limitations? I’m looking for a daily driver but my local breaks are fast and heavy and we often get big swells. Is there a wave type that you think this wouldn’t do well in? Thanks!
Tyler Gingras Big heavy surf will challenge you on this board.

cassio santos No real comparison at all. FB is faster and really high performance for a Twin Fin but the RW is a Thruster so it draws different lines.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 whilst being both different boards either could work as a daily driver? I think you mentioned that the RW could be ridden with the AMK fins. I need to choose one. Struggling between them.

The more upright fins like the T1, T2, AMT, MR’s type of fins with Trailer fins slide out like crazy for me backside.
Hey Noel,
As always Great review!
Keep the width and thickness somewhat the same as the Stock DIMS that suit you best, just add 1” in length.

surfer Boards with more tail rocker will offer more hold or traction through turns compared to a board with low tail rocker. Most of the time a board with low tail rocker are made for going fast in small waves.
