Then we had severe racism from Jim Crow to [areas] of segregation in the 60's...Civil Rights laws were passed and systemic racism was becoming dismantled. There are still some vestiges left, but it's a far cry from what you wrote...very far.

It is a frustrating feeling having black people come across as almost mad at you because they imagine that you have not suffered enough to meet some arbitrary standard of racism. I lost a bit of respect for Marcellus for this segment. (Whitlock has lost my respect completely for CONSISTENTLY doing this) but Marcellus came across as gossippy, judgemental, salty, and just flat out jealous. And I can understand why he joined the Navy. He joined out of a sense of duty. This is still his country and he felt a calling from it. I had that dame feeling and I am a black man.
