- Creators meets the Kaplan Twins, two ambitious young LA transplants looking to make it at the intersection of art and celebrity. Host Meryl Coker spends a day with the twins, learning about two of their signature works: The Boy Toys series of toys they pose with nude and sell through their Instagram account, and their paintings of celebrity sex tape scandals. We also meet Matty Mo, the girls' business partner and former Google exec turned art impresario, who is nurturing the Kaplan's career through his incubator and marketing their appeal for maximum profitability. Through it all, the girls' entrepreneurial and playful approach to sexuality and pop art begs the question of what exactly art is, and who has the right to call themselves an artist.

This is sad. There is very little true art left. Once you start talking about "integration" and "monetization", it's no longer art, it's product. Art is about creative expression, not profit and fame.

I would argue that integration and monetization ARE forms of art, however they are intended to produce profit and fame. They're forms of art that come from greed and not from the love of art itself. Whether or not they come from creative expression, they still take skill and are definitely interesting to analyze (which is why this video was created).
ShadowTriadWestWind - I don't see marketing strategies as artistic but I take your point. I agree that it is interesting but taking pictures of something you bought from a store and then selling that item for a ridiculous mark up just because it was in a picture with you isn't a skill, it's a scam.
Chris Horan our time period has produced more "true" art than any other time in history. Like this generation alone is so fucking artistic. These girls obviously have an agenda for reality show fame (who can blame people for wanting that when America elected such a person president) but they don't define contemporary art. You do have a lot of artists now pursuing fame very aggressively probably because of the huge saturation of work and I guess this is the extreme end of that

It's absolutely art. They are beautifully simple human examples of cancer or an infection. To understand truly, how little they understand reality is intoxicating. Adding novelty and themes to fetishizing little girls for profit.
I think it IS art. It's more about a narrative examining the habits of our culture and what we focus on. People actually used to talk about art and try to engage with relative artists, but now people just spend their time of social media. Artists like this are doing an important thing by bringing art to people who don't usually look for art.

that woman from Creators certainly did not hold a neutral perspective either. She seemed to disagree with Twins' opinion based on her facial expression.
I think the fact that they were getting more likes for the pictures of themselves, sort of sums up a lot of social media these days. Sex sells, like it or hates it. Actually promoting artwork on social platforms can be incredibly hard.. at times it's hard to see the art from the artist. If you're young female and attractive, it's far easier to make a success on social media than if you're 40 and male haha.
I don't personally blame the twins for what they do, but the term "Art" I think is being used very liberally.

I truly love what these women are doing! Human sexuality is nothing to be ashamed of. I honestly think they are artistic geniuses, both in their painting skills and marketing.
Have you seen any of their oil paintings? They are incredibly talented! Also, be mindful that they paint together, at the same time, on the same canvas and it still comes out flawlessly!
But the actual content of their art aside, what they are exhibiting by emphasizing the female form is definitely feminist and empowering in nature. Society has hyper-specialized the female form; whether a women is fully clothed or butt naked they are still seen as provocative. I love what these women are doing! Shifting the perspective of these sexual/ pornographic images into an art form that is more digestible for the common viewer.
Art is meant to be subjective and evoke various emotions in it's viewers. If their art has made you feel anything at all, whether it be positive or negative, then it was successful in some way.

You have a huge audience and you should be careful about the artists you choose to show and the way you do it. This looks banal and non-important.
A more serious approach to this, and focusing on social/cultural/economical implications of their work instead of "oh, they sell cheap toys for $333" and "oh we sold this painting of kim k to pornhub" would be more helpful to you, the artists, and the audience.
