    I love that they smiled at each other at the end, both knowing they nailed this tune.

    One of the best recordings I've heard. What a great sound and fantastic virtuosity on such a tricky instrument. I prefer this to a lot of the modern versions.

    This is excellent! The playing is very impressive. The tone of the instrument and of the player is lovely. Here, I think, we are close to the ideal performance of this work. It always seems to turn out that the old, original instruments can eventually be mastered and, when they are, they are superior to modern instruments.

    • @will9357
      @will9357 Год назад

      In this case, a lot more of the difference in sound is just modern preferences in mouthpiece design that favor a darker tone over a brighter one. Those preferences, also make the lower notes of the trumpet's register sound better, but at the expense of making the higher ones harder to play. Still, it's well worth understanding the instruments of the past, at the very least so we can make better choices when designing instruments for the future.

    I guess this guy is called Marcus Wurcsh as I think I've seen on another video. I wonder why his name is not mentionned here and why isn't he more famous. He makes keyed trumpet sound good (which it is not supposed to do !).

    The most impressive thing to me is the excellent intonation that Würsch produces on this instrument. I am also impressed that he learned to finger the keyed trumpet. The tone shares some features of the natural trumpet, which is also a plus. My only complaint would be that too many notes are split or spattered. I know that it's hard to avoid, but it can be done.

    Se suponía que éste instrumento era tan rudimentario que sonaba muy desafinado. Pues aquí se desmiente tal teoría con esta maravillosa interpretación por parte de Mr. Würsch con el magnífico y transparente acompañamiento de Mr. Solomon.
    Supposedly this instrument was so rudimentary that sounded much out of tune. That theory is now expunged by this marvelous performance on the part of Mr. Würsch supported by the fine accompaniment by Mr. Solomon.

      +Cap'n Johannes P. Ferguson, Plunderer o' the Seas Haydn's trumpeter "invented" (perhaps there were earlier less successful attempts) the keyed trumpet and Haydn wrote the concerto for him.

      +Van Hollingsworth A trumpeter by the name of Anton Weidinger designed, built, and became very proficient at playing a new instrument called the keyed trumpet. He commissioned Haydn and later Hummel to write concertos for his new instrument.
