The castle is called 'La Conciergerie'. It's one or the most iconic of the révolution., with 'The Bastille '. Bastille was completly destroyed after the fallen of the royalty. Conciergerie survive, and become a terror place where hundreds where executed for their connections to royalty, including Mary Antoinette... Gojira is a perfect choice to represent the chaos of révolution...
Maybe let's add that Marina Viotti the Opera/experimental singer, who's not a member of Gojira, is also not a stranger to French Metalheads as she has had 2 French bands!
Best 3 minutes of the Olympic opening ceremonies. Gojira is the most epic band France ever produced. This is metal history being made here. They totally captured The French Revolution. The mix of opera and metal gave me Carmina Burana vibes. Epic.
I saw this maybe 50 times ! French Revolution, first Republic... Emmanuelle Favre was responsible for scenography in the artistic direction team of all ceremonies in Paris, she is the one who made the stage for Mylene 2019 and Nevermore. The futuristic aspect of the closing ceremony has Cleary smtg to do with La Defense Arena 2019 ;) Love Those olympics were beautiful, very French haha :)) btw Mylene refuses to be part of the ceremony but the played a remix of Désenchantée during the dancing part of the opening ceremony (with fashion icons and drag queens ;)))
Nit far from the building is Le Bataclan where there was a massive terrorist attack I 2015 during a metal band convert. The boat is the symbol of Paris that was used in 2015 after the attacks. Fluctuat nec mergitum : get rocked but does not sink.
Ah! ça ira, ça ira, ça ira is a revolutionary song whose refrain, which symbolizes the French Revolution, was first heard in May 1790. Its author, a former street-singing soldier named Ladré, had adapted some uninteresting words on the Carillon national, a very popular counterdance tune due to Bécourt, violinist at the Théâtre des Beaujolais, and that Queen Marie-LouiseAntoinette herself often liked to play on her harpsichord. This air is used as the main theme of the fourth movement of the German composer Friedrich Witt’s La major Symphony, written around 1790. The title and theme of this song was inspired by the unflappable optimism of Benjamin Franklin, who was a much-loved representative of the French people at the Congress of the 13 American Colonies in Paris from December 22, 1776 to July 12, 1785, who, when asked about the American Revolutionary War, invariably replied in his bad French: “Ça ira, ça ira.” During the Revolution, the sans-culottes transformed the text into a murderous apostrophe for the aristocracy and clergy. The "Ca ira" survived in Thermidor and the Directory even ordered that it be sung before each performance, but it was banned under the Consulate. There are many versions of this song, the words evolving from the optimism of the feast of July 14, 1790 ("Ah, that’s it!" Pierrot and Margot sing a ginguette. Ah, that’s it! Let’s rejoice! Let’s go, the good times will come again!" to the subsequent much more threatening refrain ("Ah, it will be fine, it will be fine!" The aristocrats at the lantern. "Ah! it will be fine, it will be fine." Claude Balbastre, organist at Notre-Dame de Paris, then transformed into a temple of reason, composed in 1793 an organ piece on the Ça ira. The song is performed by Marina Viotti and Gojira at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in France.
Queen Marie Antoinette was guillotined at the Conciergerie, the building where Gojira plays. The ship symbolizes the city of Paris: The ship represented already appeared in 1210 on the seal of the powerful corporation of the Merchants of water, and would even go back to the nautes of Lutetia, a very important corporation in the city during Gallo-Roman antiquity. The city’s motto, “Fluctuat nec mergitur” (“It is beaten by the waves but does not sink”), is also a reference to this boat.
Nous assumons notre Histoire, même si elle a été sanglante. Ce sont des faits Historiques qui nous ont donné notre devise : "Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité".
The song " Le ça ira !" sung by Marie-Antoinette at the beginning is a famous song by Edith Piaf : ruclips.net/video/bzu01gO3pi4/видео.htmlsi=mV4hFGNv2uVn47R- It's from the movie "Si Versailles m'était conté".

Epic is correct. They nailed this.
There’s another 20 seconds or so that the video cut off.
❤💪
In truth, Metal is the modern form of opera. It's normal that the both can mix.
I honestly think that metal and opera were made for each other
So true....
It's the classical style that joins them
Je n'aime pas bien la musique métal mais le mélange avec la chanteuse lyrique c'est super ❤
Merci 👍de 🇨🇵
Moi aussi, complètement soufflé par cette oeuvre.
I'm sure this went viral even among aliens...🤘💯

Thank you for posting this, that's incredible. Do you know what band it was?
Eagles of Death Metal@@anyal1987
This and the drummers from 2008 Beijing are the best opening ceremony segments ever.
It was something new, and good

The ending 🔥
Incroyable cérémonie .
Dude is the Internet Explorer of reactors.
excellent
Many many thanks 😘🔥
Top réaction 👍
Le bateau symbolise la devise de PARIS, "Fluctua nec mergitur" en latin, ca veut dire "Qui vacille mais ne sombre pas"
The début with a caricatural Parisian accent is everything.
Queen Marie Antoinette was guillotined at the Conciergerie, the building where Gojira plays.
The ship symbolizes the city of Paris:
The ship represented already appeared in 1210 on the seal of the powerful corporation of the Merchants of water, and would even go back to the nautes of Lutetia, a very important corporation in the city during Gallo-Roman antiquity.
The city’s motto, “Fluctuat nec mergitur” (“It is beaten by the waves but does not sink”), is also a reference to this boat.
No, she wasn't beheaded AT the conciergerie, but she was kept prisonner here. Little correction, but you're absolutly right for the rest :)
The Lyrics Singer Marina Viotti is an ancien Metal Singer and still fan of metal
It's french history and we are proud of it, but the beheaded queen and king was the dark side of our history but it's part of it too !
the end is cut sad =(
I confirm really sad :/
This video miss the end

Dude, you missed the (very powerful) ending
la france a défoncé le Game
Unfortunately, you took a video where the epic ending is cut. The blood is not the end 😅
It was not blood, but paper
Heureusement, mais l'idée est là.
