  • Do you know how to walk and take a step down? If yes, then you know how to do a drop. When we teach drops, we often overcomplicate them, but that shouldn't be the case. It's all about body positioning.
    Also, how important is it to brake with both brakes? Yeah, we'll find out as well.

    Think of it like kicking those feet forward almost like extending those heels no pop on a drop for beginners.
    This is one of the better videos I’ve seen nice job

    The pros preload by getting low and then they roll the bars forward, extending to get the bike in the air faster as they take off the drop instead of just pulling back

    PS the spelling for 'brakes' on bikes and cars, is different from 'break' as in break a window.

    The best advice I've heard for performing a drop on a mountain bike is to 'make a push-up motion before the drop and lean back.' To understand this, imagine doing a push-up: lean forward with your hands in front of you, bend your elbows to lower your chest close to the ground, then push strongly back up. This motion simulates how you should push the bike forward and then move your body weight back just before and during a drop. Practicing a quick and strong push-up motion helps you get a feel for the necessary movement and strength needed to safely execute a drop on your MTB.

      Yup, there's definitely many ways to learn drops. Thanks for sharing this. I've definitely heard all sort of tips about drops in the past. I really try to oversimplify how I teach others as sometimes the style of simplicity is well received by others looking to improve on their techniques. I hope that what I teach can help others if something else is not clicking for them. Super cool though, thanks for sharing your perspective too!

      @@BermMTB yeah, definitely. I was struggling in understanding when I was learning. Everyone was explaining clearly but this a-ha moment came to me after this push-up advice. I've cleared a big drop immediately after that :)

    I think word 'pull' body back, should be replaced by move body back. If someone starts pulling on drops, that's gonna lead to a massive OTB sooner or later.

    I thought test one was both brakes? It’s says test one was the back brake only?

    • @BermMTB
      @BermMTB  16 дней назад

      I'm testing back and front separate to compare braking distances. But yes, ideally you should brake with both!
