Looked like a fantastic motorcycle...sad to see they closed up shop.
@Shamoun Aryo yeah
If you sad, why you don't bough their motorcycle to let them continue their business? Truth is: no one need such motorcycle for $56,500 if Suzuki Hayabusa cost $14,599(in 2014, now it 18,599 but still tree times less).
Damon motorcycles bought all their intellectual property and are doing fantastic stuff . Check em out
I'm honestly shocked that it only cost $29 grand. Pretty fucking impressive and what a looker that bike is.
They changed their pricing recently, the R version starts at 32.5k, the RS is a special edition model now and starts at 59k
Thanks for highlighting all types of rides Jay
Always a very informative review of the machines!
Congrats Jay Leno!
Cool, love that swing arm-- 120 torque-- I had a 2005 ZX-10 with about 85 and that was a fast bike
I don't and cant ride motorbikes, but this E~bike is such a nice looking and powerful machine, that it makes me think i may just try some lessons and buy one? Very impressed and im a petrol head!
Part of the fun of a bike is working on it in the evenings. This bike is really the antithesis of my '65 R60.
I just love the sound of that jet engine
Am I the only one who kind of likes the sound of this bike. Sure normal bikes sound better but that electric whine sounds pretty cool as well. If I was wealthy enough to spend 40k$ to a bike, I would definitely consider buying one of these.
i agree i love the sound of this bike
if this is the beginning of electric motorcycles, I cant wait until the tech is far along!
Yeah this is just the start and it looks beautiful and has impressive figures! I can't wait until attractive electric bikes with good power/good range start competing with 600's and become much more popular :D
The beginning was way worse. This is more like the beginning of the good stuff.
You have no idea... in the next 30yrs the progression of electric vehicles, both cars and motorcycles is comparable to the progression of phone technology over the past 20yrs.
What you are looking at here is a Nokia 3210 of E bikes.. in 30yrs from now there is an iPhone X of E Bikes and you can’t begin to imagine what it’s like.
Give it another 10 yrs and watch the Japanese manufacturers take this technology to the next level.
love it, cant wait to see these on the road and get to ride one in the future
Very good presentation. Awesome bike. Thx for the post 👍
Welp, this is awkward....RIP MM
*There is a reason most nations allow deaf people do drive!* The sound from a motorcycle is NOT a safety issue, no matter how much sense that makes to some guys :)
It's *all* about vision, I can make a list of points about "why" if you want, but I hope the fact that almost no western nation has that as a requirement for a drivers licence, that should be evidence enough.
Love This Show!
Absolutely awesome! Want one now.
the top speed is over 150mph and the acceleration is amazing its slightly faster than my 2012 ninja 650r
Slightly?
Man, What happened to $29,000? the website says $56,000!! and $75K for the RS w/GP package!
The Mission RS starts at 59K, the Mission R starts at 32.5K
this is groundbreaking technology and ideas. it never comes cheap.
EpiDemic117 but the trade off is not cheap fuel prices, its the instant torque and power of electric. Don't get me wrong that some of the gas are fun and can be a blast, but electric bikes are already out performing gas.
Great shoot of the Mission Electric Motorcycle.
Wauw I'm really impressed! Can't wait to have one actually!
why does he sound like SwaggerSouls at 7:00
:O
The internet adress they say in the video doesn't work :(
+Santeri Miettinen they went out of business lol
+rebelyell22 Did they? I was wondering what happened. Think they took funding and ran. I know they had a lot of backers.
+Jay Trock apparently a lot of their engineers got pinched by apple.
Funny how the guy chuckled when Jay mentioned scammers thats came by the garage...
My buddy Jim Higgins had the pleasure of drag racing the prototype at Sonoma raceway. They played with the gearing and let it cool after each run and he's best run of the day was actually pretty good. 10.4 at I believe 126mph. Not bad.
Love the way they sound during pass-by's
My thoughts on the bike:
Pros: Looks great, No shifting, Very little maintenance, torque and power at any speed.
Cons: Price, Lack of sound (so cars know you're there), A little heavy, Top speed
archinuk417 I think the Lightning LS 218 is the best electric sportbike out there.
Very pricey though, I agree.
I'm guessing Jay doesn't fill up his own motorcycles if he thinks it's $25 to fill up.
I'd guess that he hasn't had dirty fingernails in 30 years.
Yep, 12 bucks, and mine is overflowing.
Let’s not forget California fuel price over $ 4 per gallon and let’s say a 5 gallon BMW tank do the Math
Gotta love the high pitch whine of a electric engine controller.
Socking how far it's come.
sounds cool but I like shifting
sounds cool but I don't like spending money on petrol lol
Tactical he tested an electric bike that Had a proper six speed transmission a little bit earlier. I don’t think it was quite as fast as this bike however. I would like to see a mix of the two
If you don't live in California or Europe, petrol is still pretty cheap.
I have an electric bike in China. Been riding them for over 10 years now. Love them. They really do have a lot of torque and very little maintenance. BUT, after a couple of years you need to replace the batteries. This bike above I think is a lithium battery but even those need to be replaced after awhile. Batteries are very expensive to replace. So a person needs to take that into consideration when buying it. No buying gas but you will pay for those batteries eventually. They need to not only make these bikes have a longer range, but the batteries need to go something like 10-15 years before they need to be replaced! That is the real challenge!
wow, love that sound.
Saw this bike in the showroom of Ducati triumph in NYC... Looks insane in person!
what motorcycle is 30 dollars to fill up
Michael Ibrahim a survivalist bike with 2-5 gallon gas cans instead of saddle bags 😂
Maybe in Europe because of all the taxes, the EU makes it citizens bend over and take it big time from the Taxman.
@@A-FrameWedge "maybe in europe" in the country called europe? in finland we pay 1.4-1.7€/l for gasoline, i'm sure you know how to convert that to the lesser units. the taxman bends over when i need education, hospital, dentist, medicine, food, clothes, money, anything really.
@@A-FrameWedge way to show your intelligence. eu and europe are not the same thing, and europe is not a country, there are several countries.
Looks like they filed for bankruptcy just the other day... Never even shipped a single bike
+Unreal です Yes they were corupted. Took money, and put into pocket, not product.
+Jay Trock lanesplitter.jalopnik.com/pioneering-electric-motorcycle-company-mission-motors-f-1730322201
Tom Pree Have no clue what you posted this to me. Please read my comment and stop trolling. I posted they took the money for their pockets not PRODUCT hence bankruptcy.
+Jay Trock Apparently the cause of their bankruptcy was Apple taking away all their engineers with higher salaries. That killed their stocks... Sadly.
+ExProsiveGaming No, the cause of their bankruptcy was the lack of a viable business/sales model. Apple poached talent from a rotting corpse.
Oh man I can't wait for the youtube videos of this using the front facing camera!
Awesome looking bike too.
Very impressed with this !!
as I live in apartment and dont have any way to recharge it. there is no point in getting it. oh well ill just buy an r1 and save $10,000
+frackyou asshat Yes and then spend it all on fuel hahahahahaha
It would take between 15 and 20 years to spend that kind of money on fuell for the R1.
cueballB
Pistons, gaskets, oil, oil filters, gear box, clutch, injectors plus many other moving and non moving engine parts. Not only that but the electric bike equivalent will not stall and will have twice the torque and besides that you will not see many 15 - 20 year old R1s in the future. I know where my money is going.
Fabian Hey, don't get me wrong. A few years from now, when batteries are a lot better and cheaper, i might get me an e-bike. Problem for me is i like to change bikes a lot, ride different things. With a 30 k bike, that might not be doable.
Get a Zero motorycle. Cost less than a new R1 but gets 150 miles and almost no maintenance.
I would love to have the Mission R, but I just can't justify spending $32k on it. If it were $15k, I'd be all over it,
Future11B Perhaps it will be like computer parts and you will be able to pick it up much cheaper in a few years. There are constant free updates to it and you can buy whatever new battery they have out so it wont matter much which year you get. I agree I would be all over this if it was around the $15k mark.
SonnoMaku If it works out that way I'd be all over it. But for right now I want to save for a Yamaha FZ-09
Future11B Idk if it's just me, but it seems their website are no longer available?
@@urgandma lol they took the money of the people declare bankrupcy ,never delivered a bike and ran away with the cash
@@ragimundvonwallat8961 explains the small chuckle when Jay mentioned scammers in the intro..
Amazing! Makes me want one.
even 10yrs later it still looks 10yrs ahead of its time
No shift?! No buy. Hell, for that much (58k rumored)I'd just go with the challenger hellcat. Bikes are cool up to a degree....that degree being price point.
Syrus Lang we want manual shifting! :D
Fuck that if it can't compete with the new liter bikes is a waste of time
I do love the sound
Instant collectors item!
Well doesnt really matter as they are out of business sadly.
_140 miles_ That's better than the Nissan Leaf!
What a looser. ever heard of drag and weight
LOL, drive 140 miles (about 3 hours, realistically), stop and charge 8 hours, drive 140 miles, charge 8 hours. Hmmm, how long would that take to drive 'straight through from New York City to Los Angeles? LOL... That's IF there are plenty of proper charging stations along the way... which there aren't.
Outstanding ...
The sound is amazing, reminds me of futuristic movies.
29k...reallllyyy.. the liessss
The Mission RS starts at 59K, the Mission R starts at 32.5K
any petrol head couldnt want one of these, theres no explosions
If you're internal combustion engine has explosions or is exploding you have serious engine problems.
petrol detonating at tdc is still an explosion to me mate :) petrol compressed air and explosions
fair enough lol
Have you ever heard of people with tinnitus like myself? I can't stand loud sounds. That's why an electric car or bike would be perfect for me.
I also have tinnitus. I don't think the electric motor whine on this bike would be eaier to bear than the standard sound of an inline 4 with stock pipes. That being said there are some electric bikes out there that are about half the cost that are much quieter and have transmissions.
Mark came prepared. He was on his ish. Bike looks well made and a lot of fun. Hats off.
Josh: I have built an electric motorcycle and have been riding it for two seasons now. Over 6000 miles during spring and summer riding. There is maintenance to do. Brake and chain adjustment. I've had to replace rear brake master cylinder, front and rear sprockets and chain also. The high-end LiFePO4 batteries require a certain amount of massaging for longevity. It's a blast to drive though and mine costs about 1.5 cents per mile to ride
Beautiful bike. Amazing tech as well. The Future...
this is the future . the bike is amazing would love to drive this around the city.
Let's not forget about the good old days, thankfully Classified Moto is keeping them alive, brin them onto the show Jay!!!!!!
this is the future, cant wait to own a bike like this.
Beautiful bike and great review
This looks so beautiful
wow this is an future super bike. I love this technology
gorgeous looking bike
Looks and sounds great.
Beautiful bike. I'd love to test ride it :)
Looks Great!
That high pitch sound would drive me nuts after awhile. Plus I think most riders actually like shifting gears and pulling high RPM's. I think this bike takes a lot of the fun out of what a motorcycle really is
That's so amazing I love it and ur show
I rode a Zero dual sport for a week or so. Very run to ride.
I they’re the least expensive out of all the electrics.
I’m saving some money now and hopefully get one soon.
You have a very nice collection Jay...
I have been watching this space for a long time now. So pumped that thing is amazing. How long does a charge take? I guess that's one benefit of petrol. 240 kms, small fuel up stop, another 240 kms, etc, etc,. Im sure they will figure this out. Good stuff for having the balls to release this bike under so much pressure to perform. An amazing feat and no doubt will bring the future closer, faster.
WOW. In love.
wow...got blown away =D
Great motorcycle. Im just waiting till eletric bikes are cheaper then im in. Sounds amazing.
I am impressed...seems like a nice bike now and ten years from now with all the upgrade capabilities, I think this would save you money in a few years of using it
Jay, you're the man! It's good to see that you appreciate motorcycles as well as cars. I like how a celebrity like you gets on a bike with no stunt double doing the work for you! But c'mon, youve got the money to maintain half of the super-cars on the west coast but you cant hire Arai to make you a custom helmet? haha
Balls to the wall, man!
Now that one looks nice!
Cool. I've been raving about these guys as much as Tesla.
nice work !
i'd love to have one of these
Great observation on the heat not coming up through the bike! I also dig the companies desire to "future proof" the bike by doing future drop in battery options!
For the price of $29k, it's pretty reasonable really. Comparable Ducati setups with similar brakes and suspension run $22k. Really... not all that bad!
I wonder how much multiple battery packs would cost, and if they could hold up to multiple track sessions, or the smaller battery charge quick so only three and a generator would be needed... ironically though the generator would run on gas, heh.
Awesome ~ Would like to have one
I would totally get one of these.
That's amazing.
Need to do a video on that 50s station wagon behind Jay at the end of this video !
"its the future what can i say" such a good quote
really cool bike looks great!
Interesting ! Gotta have one!
exactly, I've had to make this point several times, people have a short memory around how high new technology is priced, only 13 years ago plasmas and 42 inch tvs were upward of 25 thousand
Watching a video on the Energica Ego and wishing this was around for competition. But that price I believed killed this incredible, ahead of its time, motorcycle
You all can argue forever but that bike is awesome
Good points.
If the price point is to high on the Mission try the Solar Electric Scooter just for fun . The SES goes 20 Miles on a charge at a top speed of 15MPH. The solar panel is the standing board and charges one mile for each full hour in the sun 5 miles mid summer.
Nice, Jay!
I love how he ends every video with "See you next week", but the next day there's a new video out.
amazing
Wow, looks great and I actually like the sound of the electric motor ALOT. Sounds incredibly hi-tech. Which it is. :)
i want one of this bike its so awesome....
I like it ... I ride motorcycles everyday and I think the range is excellent me and for most riders .. i think its a little expensive but will hopefully electric motorcycles go down with time .. im looking forward to seeing what the future has for the electric sportbike ... id love to test ride one of these !!!!!!!
Very cool!!!
That's a sweet looking bike!
MISSION SUPERIOR perhaps !! sounds like a F16 ! amazing Steve
none of the reviewers from the top motorcycle magazines seem to miss the shifting. Eliminating the shifting just enables you to focus all your attention to the driving. Shifting is only there in a bike so that your engine can do what you want it to do. This one can do it without shifting ad jerkiness.
