they had less than 700 students when they closed in 2010, compared to having nearly 4000 students in 92. mass exodus from the city caused the closing of alot of schools
Born and raised in Detroit, half of my family went to Cooley high, Cody high school and Pershing high school. Mostly everything in Detroit is abandoned and it's sad because it was once a beautiful city.
Grew up 3 minutes away on Lauder most of my family went to COOLEY . Had a lot of 1st happenings right in that auditorium . Really hurts to see in that shape
It's a shame. But the people of Detroit wonder why things aren't built here/ why our city doesn't look like other cities. As a community we destroy our own stumping grounds. Just because something isn't functioning doesn't mean it's ok to destroy it.... And if I remember correctly while attending Cooley there was a police station right next door. WE HAVE TO DO BETTER AS A COMMUNITY
You keep showing all this destruction why don't you show what Detroit Central looks like it's still beautiful and it's still occupied and being used and show Durfee Junior High since you want to show everything that's so messed up that building has been repurposed also
So beautiful I hate seeing that go
It wasn't arson that destroyed the auditorium. It was an underground rap concert, and they started an electrical fire by mistake.
Heart breaking.

Schools should never be closed. Our children's education should always be #1...Great teachers should be paid well, and encouraged.
