Good point. That's the problem with Aldas. He has no idea how to analyze driver performance or an F1 race. He is clueless. He's just repeating the simple, easy-to-digest and mostly wrong info. With the HQ footage, people think he has a clue. He had no idea how Schumacher-Massa did in 2006 but tried to make a "What if Schumacher stayed for 2007" video, which turned out to be a nonsense again.
@@ItsDeffoScott only if Mercedes emphasised on Bottas for at least one season, he could’ve won it. Especially 2020. But every time, they just focused on Hamilton. Just imagine, it would mentally break Bottas.
@@shaneetsaha1176 I'd never prioritize a mf who's good quali's don't translate to good race craft on Sunday when I have Lewis in my other car and he does BOTH EXCEPTIONALLY. VB is *not* a victim and can't be counted on. Mercedes made the right choice all 5 seasons VB was their driver
He was still able to win a race in 09 But McLaren struggled through the season. The biggest difference, is that Hamilton's teamate was Kovalainen, a slower driver comparing to Russell. Mentally, I guess it's difficult for Hamilton to fight with a car that is not super competitive , whilst batteling internally with a younger version of himself. Hands down, the most monumental challenge in Hamilton's career so far.
i don't think it's anywhere near most monumental. at this point, Lewis is already a 7-time world champion with the most wins of any driver in history. he has nothing to prove to anyone, and finishing the year behind George Russell will not change that, except to those that will die on their little molehill denying it anyway. the most monumental goes to his rookie season in 2007, when he had reigning double world champion Fernando Alonso in the garage next to him. the man that just ended Michael Schumacher's dominance and one of the greatest drivers to ever sit behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car. no amount of "mclaren biased" blah blah blah changes the fact that had it not been for McLaren's self-sabotaging strategy in China and a bizarre gearbox glitch in Brazil, he would've both decisively beaten Fernando Alonso (no one else has come close since) and taken a rookie world championship. another contender would be 2018, when 4-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, and one of two possible greatest drivers of this era, came up in a direct title fight against the other contender for greatest driver of this era in 4-time world champion Sebastian Vettel. by the end of the season, it was clear Lewis Hamilton was the better between the two, and cemented his place over Vettel as the greatest of the generation. while he and Mercedes rose to new heights, Vettel and Ferrari crashed and burned. the most monumental challenges are when there is actually something to be gained, something to rise to in victory. a rookie world championship and the title fight of a generation are stakes that few other drivers find themselves in contention, let alone rise to the occasion. whether he beats George Russell or not this year is inconsequential in comparison to what hes already done.
@@dragonkrieg4444 so many words just to try to discredit the fact that George Russel is beating him rn and that hamilton has a shitbox to deal with it for the first time in ages and is doing poorly
@@dragonkrieg4444 not really. 2007 was a very particular season, and in fact, Alonso was the one with that monumental task in his hands, not Lewis. And the reason why I say this, is because Lewis drove with no pressure. Besides that, he was in a very familiar environment, totally supported by the big names in the team. If Lewis made a mistake in 2007( which happened) was forgiven and supported literally by everybody, media included, as he was the new super talent in f1. If Lewis makes a mistake today, he'll have much more pressure on himself, media included. To be honest, 2007 was the perfect situation for him to arrive in f1 and cause a positive impression right away.
@@stonedage5087 Alonso was the reigning double world champion in 2007. he went up and came out on top in a title fight against Michael Schumacher. how could he possibly be the one with the monumental task at the beginning of 2007? look at Stoffel Vandoorne. He absolutely dominated all the lower categories. he was put into F1 as a rookie next to Fernando Alonso. do you even remember who and when? a rookie paired next to a reigning world champion, let alone one of the greatest there ever was, isn't ever a perfect situation.
@@vladpop9088 two weeks ago it's Lewis Hamilton who was ahead in the standings and George Russell was messing up under pressure. i'd say something about discrediting your conclusions but they weren't ever credible to begin with
I'll admit the Lewis memes from Imola were good. But aside from that it's crazy how people are trying to discredit his whole career based of a few bad races. He probably hasn't gotten grips with the car yet and knowing that he can't challenge for the championship this year probably impacted his motivation as well. Best comparison would be Vettel in 2014, fresh off of 4 consecutive world titles. Yet not adjusting to the car well meant he was destroyed by Ricciardo who was in his first season at RedBull.
Only season you can say he was truly bad is 2020, and that was due to quite obvious circumstances within the team. Vettel has been in a midfield team at least 3x in his career (not counting 2022) and he still managed scored a podium in all of those teams. It's called having a bad season. These guys are human. Hamilton in 2009 and 2011 was very prone to crashes and spins, still, it doesn't take it away from him being an amazing driver. Besides 2020, which was quite obvious from the start of the season and during what was happening mid-season, in 2014 Vettel had 8 reliability issues during qualifying and 3 during races. He also was among the drivers who had the least amount of testing, in a season where cars had the most dramatic changes since the start of F1's modern era. So yeah... that amount of DNFs, plus qualifying issues which would put him behind on the grid and very few testing (even a few practice sessions) and very short amount of testing time in a car so much different than the year before had a massive impact, that and the car just not being championship worthy as Mercedes were absolute rockets and were the clear winners since day 1, and Ferrari talks behind the scenes... Don't forget that he had an underperfoming clause on his contract. Tons of changes, he also became a father that year and Schumacher, his idol of F1 and father-figure in the sport was put in a coma. And yes, Ricciardo was on the pace more often, but that was also arguably his best season in F1 to date. He did things in that season I didn't see him doing in any other. Even in the very next year he was unable to beat Kvyat on points when both had similar issues (in fact, Kvyat had more crashes). 2015 pretty much proved he wasn't exposed to anything. In terms of %, Vettel in 2015 was faster than Kimi more so than Fernando was in 2014, and 2014 was Kimi's 1st season comeback for Ferrari while 2015 was Vettel's 1st season for Ferrari. Hamilton on the other hand, has never driven a midfield car other than the FIRST HALF OF THE 2009 SEASON. It wasn't even a full season, as the car became top-tier after the upgrades in Hungary, it even locked out a front-row in one GP if IIRC. So... yes, comparing Hamilton to him is an absolutely valid case.
Exactly!! Finally someone who understands it! It's just so annoying to see people literally refusing to accept that every domination comes to an end at some point. Saying things like "we will be back stronger", "our glory will return" for me it's nonsense. Yes they will improve, in the end they are an 8 time in a row championship winning team, but the domination is over, and Lewis' era and domination is over too. The new generation is here: Max, Charles, George, Lando, Carlos etc; it's their time to shine! Sometimes I think that those Merc fans want them, or expected them to dominate for another 2, 3 or even 4 years. Things change, as you said, it happened to EVERY team that dominated the sport.
Yeah, as merc fans it's hard to take but what you're saying is a truth. Not just the end of merc era but the end of driver from lewis era (lewis, vettel, alonso, etc) & a start of new generation driver (max, charles, etc). Just like when schumacher lost to alonso, his era is over & it's a start of new era.
I know some people have been waiting for this moment since 2016 maybe, but it’s really strange to see someone once at the peak of all powers, suddenly find himself on the back foot. I’m not prepared to write Lewis off just yet, but he’s having a shocker for sure, especially considering his brand new teammate is having the measure of him so far. This will be his biggest challenge yet and we may see a new side to Sir Lewis.
The 09 McLaren was far worse, at least at the start of the year. Especially as Russell has gotten decent results with the mercedes. I think the crux of the matter is the current mercedes just doesn't suit Hamilton that well.
This reminds me of when Daniel had that great year against Vettel. Some younger drivers can adapt so much quicker than the older ones. Yes, the '09 wasn't very good for Hamilton, but it was a winnable car. I don't know if there ever has been an F1 driver who had a race-winning car throughout their entire career besides Lewis in the modern era.
@@AndyFromBeaverton The thing about the W13 compared to the MP4-24 is that development was way different in 2009 without the budget cap. I’m pretty sure that we wouldn’t see the same way of how updates are introduced without said cap

@@AndyFromBeaverton Ok I actually didn’t knew that about the 2009 season. But yeah from what they say to the media Mercedes still had absolutely no clue if the entire concept is flawed. That’s probably also a difference to the McLaren because at least that was relatively conservative
With the budget cap in-season development will be a lot less powerful, despite the car is in a better position then 2009, it's much harder to turn it around. They have to make a quick decision about if the concept can work with minor fix and can be developed into next year, or the concept is fundamentally wrong and they need to start a new concept for next year.
In before the unnecessary Lewis hate in 3....2......1. Honestly he'll probably pick up a win or 2 at some point this season. The team dynamic will be interesting in the long term though, George has nothing to lose and everything to gain in going up against a 7X world champion
Since George seems to have gotten to grips with the car better. I think it'll be him who scores a win or two. But surely Lewis will snatch a few podiums.

But of course... the biased British media will call Lewis' whining "justified" but Alonso is "toxic". 🙄😒
As a Ferrari fan it is actually so jarring to see the Lewis haters already claiming that he is washed, that GR is a better driver and his time is over, and that he only wins because he has always had the fastest car. I still think he is the top 3 drivers in the grid but the adjustment to the new philosophy of cars has not been as fast for him. I fully expect him to be taking points away from charles by the second half of the season and potentially making our title fight that much more complicated.
Hector, These are people who are genuine haters for whatever reasons, or generally younger people just getting into F1 and have no idea of intricacies of the sport. This narrative that Russell is dominating Lewis is just not true. George has managed to jump Lewis and I believe Lando because of a virtual safety car intervention. Even then Lewis was still catching him towards the end of the race and was told to back off. The last race the sprint race showed the limitations of that Merc when stuck in the midfield. George started 11th ended up 11th. No places gained. He got a great start in the Sunday's race and was able to extract the most out of the car so he finished 4th. He didn't pass anyone on track either. Another point of note, in the second race although Lewis had a poor qualifying, he was projected to finish 6th on merit had Alonzo car not partially blocking the pit entrance and the confusion that ensued cost him to miss out on a pit there. Most of the 21 points deficit is pure circumstantial. BTW, I like George, this is not hating on him.
He actually has it better than when Vettel started underperforming in 2020 in similar conditions: shit car, teammate almost always above him in the standings and in qualifying. People trashed him all around pretty harsh because of his performance. He'll even Binotto threw shade at Vettel while Toto is protecting Hamilton. Now that Russell has and is seriously outperforming Hamilton, the same thing will happen, like with Ricciardo, some will defend him others criticize him. Honestly imo no driver should be torn to shreds as hard as they did Vettel, are doing Ricciardo and are going to do Hamilton.

I do think Mercedes believe in their car design, so they'll probably come with a solution till the end of the season, which means 2023 they could be fast again. But it's clear that's not the case for 2022, specially with the cost cap
In 2009 though, teams had more freedom to develop and test. Now everything happens on computers and you don't know what you're gonna get until free practice
The fact that a race-winning, pole-setter car in the discussion of being the worst car Hamilton ever had speaks volumes of how lucky he's been. Of course, he's deserved every car he had by his own merits, but still...
Even if Merc come back I don't see Ham winning races in presence of Max and Charles. I also believe that it is extremely hard to beat Max in equal or worse car

Still better than the Williams car George used to drive... Lewis is an amazing driver, but he is a driver that has been given race winning cars in F1. Even '09 won a few races. It's also hard to defend with George constantly outperforming him. I wouldn't be surprised if he bounced back, but he's definitely having a harder time than his teammate.

Great video Aldas I wish you would be a little faster putting out content mate. Your knowledge of all things F1 is always very impressive for how young you are.
There are big differences between 2009 and 2022 for Hamilton. Back then he was just 24 years old, he was more or less at the point his career, where Verstappen is today. Today Hamilton is 37 and he said he doesn’t want to drive until he is 40, which means he will have not more than 3 years in the sport. Additional to that, back than in 2009 he was the clear number one in the team, he was world champion, had beaten his team mate the season prior and was a super-talent. Today he is the most successful driver in F1 history, but he has a new team mate, who is 13 years younger and driving on his level in first few races, while Hamilton is from his age over his zenith. In 2009 he was the future of his team, today Russell is Mercedes future. Mercedes might see no chance for this or next year and maybe do more or less the same to Hamilton as Ferrari did to Vettel in 2020. I also doubt he can keep 100% motivated fighting for single points, like Vettel couldn’t in 2014 and 2020. Russell will stay 100% motivated for sure, the W13 is still the best car of his career.
@@jame8618 He should consider it, but I think, if he believes in Mercedes building soon again a car, that is fast enough for championship, he will stay. I think he really wants the 8th title, but he has to measure, if he will have a chance.
IMO Merc car this season is not that bad as some people try to present it. Yeah it’s clearly not a front-runner, but definitely not a backmarker. Back in 1st half of 2009 season McLaren was definitely one of the slowest cars until massive development after summer break. And now the problem is really in Lewis whether he is unmotivated or not used to compete in an upper midfield car after a long period of dominance. Another obstacle is him getting older, so personally I’d recommend him to retire unless he wants to be outscored by a younger and hungry teammate (similar case to Seb vs Charles in 2019-2020).
I remember their 2009 car. That was a legit dog. This year's car is no where close to that car. The 2009 car was actually performing within it's design parameters but was simply horrible and the competition simply did a better job. This year's car is no where near it's operation window and it does not need a B spec car to resolve the issue. They need to solve the porpoising with strengthening the floor and deploy a better suspension. When these things are deployed, we will see that car that Ferrari and red bull was concerned about.

People say Lewis is finished because he’s driving this type of car. Like relate f1 life to common life. If your driving a car that is superior than most cars for many years, your driving style is adjusted to getting comfortable and the most out of that car. If all of a sudden you have a car that is more difficult to drive obviously there will be a change. It’s like being the kid that gets the best grades every year in class. If all of a sudden you get an F you have to figure out how to improve people acting like Lewis is supposed to be this F1 God who can drive anything no matter how bad the car is. There’s no such thing as the "perfect driver" in F1

I am a Ferrari and Verstappen fan, with huge respect for Hamilton and every other driver/team on the grid. Without any doubt, it is a hard fact, Hamilton is not a driver to get the best out a bad car (unlike Vettel and Alonso). Only if Mercedes didn’t made a tremendously dominating car from 2014-2021, Lewis wouldn’t have been close to 7 DWCs (he wouldve won 2-3). Ferrari and Red Bull have more wind tunnel time on top of that. I also don’t think he‘s in his prime anymore. It was masked by a dominant car in 2021, but mistakes cost him the title. Not Masi. Minardi was severerly underpower but Alonso frequently extracted speed unlike Hamilton who is blessed with fast car since his F1 rookie years (through no faults on his own). So by your statement; Hamilton should be ahead of Russell no?
Many people are confusing form and motivation with talent. Hamilton is one of the most talented drivers to enter F1. His karting record, F3, GP2 were incredible. I think his performances in the first 4 races were below his standards. Deriving conclusions on a driver's ability after only 4 races doesn't do justice.
It is funny to see the GOAT of a lot of people, being beaten by russell, while hamilton has been in the team since 2014. Now we can see the real lewis, and how good he can perform with a not top car. And compare it with russell.
2022 car is so different from the 2013 or 2014 car. Patrese beat Piquet in a mediocre car. Lewis is not used to taking more than moderate risks lately. He should be banking points like George is. If Mercedes gets its act together then the youngster will be better positioned.
I wouldn’t say Hamilton has found more than his match yet. He will be back and can still can fight for title for next year if this year is not possible.
I remember 2009, it was crazy. Ferrari with no points after 3 races, Hamilton who was stuck in last place at Silverstone, the ugly bland Brawn winning everything, Malaysia and China (2nd and 3rd races) under torrential rain. The season wasn't great overall but there were some crazy things. Also Fisichella on pole with a Force India at Spa, Sutil almost soing the same at Monza. Only Toro Rosso was ultra disappointing all along. For a time I thought Toyota could win the championship lol. And BMW going from last to 4th from a race to another.
For me what will determine whether this Mercedes car is worse than the 2009 McLaren is whether Lewis can compete for race wins later in the season. The 2009 McLaren was somewhat competitive in the 2nd half of the season given that Lewis was able to get 2 wins, was on the podium on 3 other occasions and had pole positions in Valencia, monza and Abu Dhabi . He picked up 40 of his 49 points in the 2nd half of 2009 and would have picked up more had he not binned it in Italy or his brakes didn’t fail in Abu Dhabi
To me, that Mercedes car start to looks like the Lotus 77 and 80. People often see the 77 as a failure: still the adjustcar was an innovative design and did 5 podium including 1 win. It wasn't just not as good as the Lotus 72 and certainly not as good as what followed. They also see the type 80 as a failure but still did a podium at its first outing. The next Lotus was the type 78 and 79 which... Were simply great. Lotus kept the Lotus 79 for too long, though.
But the difference now is that russell is running the quicker short term solution while Hamilton is driving the atm slower long term concept and that is cause Hamilton is more experienced so he can give informaation about the car

Few would disagree that RUS is genuine _WDC_ material, but it's a tad premature to render a verdict like "more than Lewis' equal". What is plain to see is that RUS is extracting more out of the _W13_ than HAM. HAM looks uncomfortable in that cockpit and often even sounds confused on team radio to boot. on the surface, it even looks like RUS is much more attuned to the _F2-like_ feel of the simplified-aero, new-era _F1_ car. For a man renowned for extracting laudable performances out of suboptimal machinery during the worst of the _McLaren_ spells, it seems the 8 consecutive years HAM spent in a world-beating car have virtually wiped out that adaptability. *Fairly bold prediction:* HAM will not get to terms with how the _W13_ generates its downforce and handles overall. For the first time in his _F1_ career, he will go poleless and winless through an entire season. If _Merc_ get pole(s) and/or wins, they will all be claimed by RUS. For the first time in his racing career, he will be *comprehensively* beaten by a teammate. There are a number of similarites to the last time a storied champion was defeated by a regs shift. I'm thinking, of course, about post-blown-diffuser VET. *Observation* When an _F1_ driver delivers consistently better performances than his teammate, he tends to have the ear of the technical staff and thus a greater influence on car development. HAM will obviously command gargantuan levels of respect for having delivered for the team since he arrived, but I feel RUS has just the combination of rare driving ability, cerebral wattage and disciplined, determined application that would capture the team the moment HAM's motivation begins to wane. I reckon we are not far off that point and that RUS might even spark a premature end to HAM's career.
Despite driving pretty well in 2009, I still think one of Lewis Hamilton’s weaknesses is extracting the most out of poor cars. That’s why he’s struggled this year and that’s why he struggled against Button in some of the years and races where Mclaren were off the pace (i.e. 2011)
He got beaten by Button once and that was 2011. He would have had a podium in Australia but he got unlucky, same in Saudi when he couldn’t pit - he could have got a strong 5/6th place. I only feel he has had one bad race this year and that was at imola.
I think the reason why Lewis is underperforming is simply because he isn’t even trying to push. George is getting neck, back, and chest pains from the porpoising so I doubt Lewis wants to go through that for a P4 or p5 which is nothing for his standards. And no I’m not some delusional Lewis fan I cheer for all the young drivers
I can't think of another driver besides Hamilton who had the luck and acumen to land a ride in a top tier team for 17 years running. Having a second rate car and a fast young teammate will be the biggest challenge of his career and I, for one, think Lewis is up to it.
for now I think its too early to say, the car seems to be another 2009 mclaren but way more consistent, but I think its more than that. Like I said its too early to say but george seems to be more used to this more problematic car than hamiltion for now, which makes sense. Maybe it can be motivation or other stuff, but for sure just like in 2009 that his mclaren got some nice development, I believe the merc will sooner or later be more consistent on podiums and wins too. I would be more surprised if he doesn't get to grips when the car improves or even if mercedes can't improve the car that much, because one thing would be both drivers being between 3 and 7 place on average in races, another would be the same inconsistent results from one and consistent from the other. I know that saudi and imola he had different setup and that can be part of the reason yes, at the end of the day the driver chose to have that setup for qualifying or race so It's not like mercedes or any team shoves any setup without driver's feedback or pointers.
Hamilton has never truly had a bad car, yes the 09 Mclaren was well of the pace but they still managed to upgrade the car into a race winner. It will be the same with the 22 Mercedes. Maybe 1 or 2 race wins but not in the title hunt.
In relative performance the 09 McLaren was certainly worse than the current Mercedes. Mercedes still looks to be either 3rd or 4th best car on the grid, which McLaren definitely wasn't at the beginning of 09 season. But ultimately things will depend on how long it takes for Mercedes to turn things around. As bad as that McLaren initially was, it did end up winning two races and a string of podiums. I also think people are too quick to jump the gun on the whole Hamilton vs. Russell thing. Overall there hasn't been that much of a difference between them with Lewis having looked stronger of the two in two of the four races and George in the other two. The points gap between them is really only due to Imola and Russel having benefited from the safety car at Australia.
It's honestly funny to see how many excuses are being made for Hamilton's lack of performance in the W13. I remember Seb not being afforded a similar benefit of doubt when he lagged behind his teammate (Ricciardo & Leclerc) in 2014 and 2020 respectively. His legacy was called into question too, he too was deemed "wasted", "washed", "can't drive", "lucky WDC" and what not. I'll be honest though, I never thought Hamilton n Mercedes would struggle this much this season. I sure as hell didn't expect PR63 to beat Lewis in the standings. I still think Lewis will rebound and then proceed to beat George in the standings, despite not being a Lewis fan. Lewis n Merc's struggle came as a surprise to me. I'm enjoying Max v Charles and am not bothered with Lewis & Merc not being at the front.
Major difference being that Seb was mostly treated as a number 1 driver (multi21 / “not bad for a number 2 driver” ring any bells?) for years whilst at RedBull and his wins were definitely a result of the car, which is what people are now saying about Hamilton. The problem is, everyone is mudslinging and not realising that no one in the history of formula 1 has ever won a race driving the slowest car. Similarly team orders and team tactics have been around since the 50s (and probably before🤷♂️)….there’s a famous incident where in the mid 1950s, Peter Collins, stopped and got out and gave his car to Manuel Fangio (whose own car had broken down) to be able to finish the race and secure enough points to win the championship. In today’s world of F1 there would be 2 arguments to this and I’ll use Hamilton as the example 1) “Hamilton would never give up his car like that”……yup, but so what? Neither would Max, Russel, LeClerc, Rosberg, Schumacher, Mansell, Hill etc etc etc - usually it’s only Hamilton that gets a bad rap (pun intended lol) 2) “Hamilton only gave up his car because he can tweet about it” …or words to that effect…in short what ever he does, there is some ulterior motive……and again I use the previous example of all the other drivers. Not a single one of them says what they really think as they’re all managed by their respective PR people. They always say stuff that people want to hear, not what they really mean or think. A great one at that was a Jenson Button…he was a press officer’s night mare as he always said things to avoid rustling feathers, but was always happy to chat to the press. ….as commented by Mark Webber when asked “what are you going to miss about Jenson when he retires?” To which Mark said “His press conferences” with a wink and a smile - a nod to the fact that Jenson is a PR’s wet dream - always does what he’s told infront of camera.
@@friktionrc giving your car to your teammate, team orders and press conferences? I never talked about that. I'm also not talking about #1 - #2 driver treatment. Most of your comment completely misses the mark in response to my comment. Let me bottom line my comment for you: More excuses are being made for Hamilton's lack of performance than there are comments downplaying his achievements. I for one, am perfectly content with him not competing for WDC but I expect him to bounce back and beat his teammate.
@@subarnosinha8042 my use of the examples of team orders , and what’s happened in the past was just that - examples. You said there were more comments excusing Hamilton’s lack of performance (even though it’s only been 4 races in a season that has 23 in total) and I was providing examples of where the same could be said of any driver including team orders and what’s happened in the past. In short - people seem to be quite happy to brush over other drivers, but for some reason Hamilton gets it in the neck…all the time. I’m not sure where you see so many comments excusing Hamilton’s lack of performance? If you are setting out your stall by random people in the comments of RUclips and other social media then sure, but if you are talking about Toto Wolff, then why shouldn’t he? I mean he’s not the only TP to defend his drivers? Using RB as an example, Marko and Horner have been doing it for years, both with Max / Checo as well as previous drivers. You say you see nothing but excuses for Hamilton, where as conversely all I am seeing is the exact opposite 🤷♂️ If you are happy to see him fail (perhaps because you will feel vindicated in your beliefs about him) that’s fine - it is you’re prerogative, however in the same way it is mine to not follow that belief I.e hoping one driver over all others fails spectacularly. As for bouncing back, only time will tell, and I feel this will be directly related to any changes to the car…only time will tell on that front, however I would caveat that this isn’t the first season he has struggled in an F1 car, there were seasons with McLaren where he was mid-pack at best and the same with when he first joined Mercedes AMG. However, if he doesn’t bounce back this year, there is nothing to state he won’t next year or the year after. He is contracted for 3years, and I get the impression he’s only staying so he can win one more title and pass Schumacher’s tally of 7. Then he would have accomplished something no one else has done (not so much the number of titles but more so winning a championships in 3 (I think) major rule changes in F1 (and with 2 different teams). I remember reading somewhere that next year or year after, the rule makers are going to ‘relax’ the rules and one of the plans is to make the cars shorter in length and maybe a bit wider (so a hark back to the old 1980s F1 cars) - I’m not sure how the final designs will look but for now let’s agree to disagree and just enjoy watching this and the next few seasons unfold. 🙂🙏
The 2009 Mclaren was dog crap, but it still won two races(how things have changed for us Mclaren fans when a year with 2 wins was considered a failure back then...). Let's see if Mercedes can do the same and get some wins later in the season. Although Lewis doesn't look comfortable in the new car, so i wouldn't be surprised if Russel can grab a win or two instead.
When Mercedes make further updates to the car, Hamilton will definitely win a race or two this year. The start of the season has been shocking for him but he’ll bounce back soon.
As a Hamilton fan I don't care where he finishes this year the guy has proved time and again how good he is he has nothing to prove to me! haters enjoy this season well it lasts.
Historically, Lewis has always struggled when he didn't have the best car on the grid. During Red Bull's dominance, Mclaren were second fastest and all those times Lewis was never in the top 3. His first year at Mercedes, he didn't crack top 3 and it took them acing the hybrid engine for him to start being dominant.
If mercedes can't get the car right, then yes, it will be worse than the mp4-24. Mclaren was able to turn around its fortunes by going back to the drawing board, so here's hoping mercedes does the same.
Hamilton was neat, clean and well groomed looking person back in 2009. Thesedays he wouldn't look out of place living under an overpass. Everytime I see him I feel itchy all over.
Button was as fast as Hamilton, Alonso, Perez, Magnussen and Barrichello in the same car. So no wonder that Russell can keep up with Hamilton too. There are easily 10 drivers on the current gird on same level as Hamilton.

Vettel has been exposed several times already as a car baby tbf, so comparing Hamilton with him doesn't help your case
Its not even a few. He was P3 in Bahrain and P4 in Austria.
@@Alumnikiid dont let your facts ruin a stupid agenda eh

Russel has not finished lower than 5th in it, people act like it’s far worse than it is, it’s the car when Lewis performs badly, but all his talent and nothing to do with the car when he wins
Russell will stay 100% motivated for sure, the W13 is still the best car of his career.
it would be smart for him to retire after next year, i dont want his career to go the way vettel did which was sad
@@jame8618 He should consider it, but I think, if he believes in Mercedes building soon again a car, that is fast enough for championship, he will stay. I think he really wants the 8th title, but he has to measure, if he will have a chance.
It’s weird this car being one of Hamilton’s worst car and Russell’s best car
I mean yeah Lew's car has never been worse than "best of the rest" while George was stuck fighting for 17th for 3 years

If 2009 so bad why McLaren p3 in wcc, not p5 like Caterham

That Mercedes was broken, in a midfield car we are seeing that he isn’t going to have such an easy ride
I don't care too much for the 8th title. I'm more concerned Hamilton will loose his 1 win every season record, that's probably the best record to have in F1 above all the wins and poles
Is he the only F1 driver to do that in history or are old drivers like Fangio and Jim Clark already did that?
Because he's had a good car EVERY season of his career. He's never really been in a PROPER Midfield team where winning is impossible.

When he has a slow car, which Russell can drag to a top-5 finish, Hamilton is just not pushing himself to the point.
Ok who won with slow car, remind please.
Bruh did you just completely ignore his Mclaren years. That's exactly what Lewis did "get the best out of the car". I don't know what your smoking if you think Vettel gets the best out of the car. We saw how Vettel fumbled around Ricciardo and Lecler when he was teammates with them. As well as 2018 where he completely bottled the title in very capable Ferrari that year. Vettel needs everything perfectly catered to him, otherwise he won't perform.
@@karthikpenumetch9300 I love Vettel but this is unfortunately true. I’d be over the moon if he gets a few more wins but we’ll see. Alonso is much more able to drag a slow car into the points than anyone

Ferrari and Red Bull have more wind tunnel time on top of that. I also don’t think he‘s in his prime anymore. It was masked by a dominant car in 2021, but mistakes cost him the title. Not Masi. Now he’s being tested by a teammate that has proven to be faster and able to handle a car that isn’t perfect. It’ll be interesting to see how he does during the rest of the season.

The reason is Russell is extremely confident
@@mertcalc3259 so you are telling me he is more confident than a 7 times world champion ? That's bullshit
@@DevilWolf000 i mean he is mentally so strong, he knows where exactly the car's limit, he extracts most from the car. Hamilton doesn't feel confident in the car . And Russell had the toughest debut I've ever seen. Problems of Williams before Dorilton takeover were notorious that we can talk about that for two hours. One season at Williams in 2019 is like 3 seasons at Mercedes from beginning of turbo-hybrid era. In my opinion, nobody except Russell couldn't have handled that harsh challenge better in a season. And Russell did that as a rookie. That's why I said he is extremely confident. Even Sainz and Ricciardo are not confident as Russell even though they've been experienced drivers.
Seeing Russell putting in great results, the worst part of the w13 is Lewis himself sadly. Mercedes should follow George lead and feedback, but I don't think they'll dare to turn their backs on Lewis.
Unpopular opinion:
Lewis Hamilton will never win another Formula 1 race.
Can see why it's unpopular.
We can only hope it comes true. Let us pray.
Hope this opinion is proven wrong.
You never know what could happen in a rainy day. Even though I'm not a Hamilton fan, it's still possible he can win a couple more. The 8th world title is slipping away tough. I will be glad if Schumi and Hamilton are tied for 7, makes it more interesting to see if someone else can beat it. Given the current grid probably only Verstappen can reach that far and even that is highly unlikely since he said that everything after the first one is a bonus.
Russell performance so far is good. For now, Russell is the backbone of the team. One of the driver that can beat Hammy, even in his first season.
So far the Merc's best results are 3rd/5th/3rd/4th. It's not the all conquering challenger of most of the last decade but it's not that much of a turd. Lewis has had a couple of bad races, he'll pick himself up and get the most out of that car soon enough. It also seems likely that Merc will make a major step forward as soon as they can get on top of the porpoising issues.
if Mercedes can bring updates; so can Ferrari and Red Bull lol.. you think Ferrari and Red Bull will stay quiet?
@@RoyLimisAw3s0me Certainly RB and Ferrari will bring their own updates but they won't unlock the kind of gains that Merc will get from solving the Porpoising.

the thing I want to point out is that Lewis Hamilton requires a great machinery to win races (but he has yet to drive an undrivable car and tries to extract some speed like Alonso did when Alonso came into F1 with Minardi - of course one can't compare apples and oranges). Lewis Hamilton had one season with bad car which is 2009 but Lewis Hamilton teammate at McLaren was Heiki which is a second driver (back up to Hamilton)
if George Russell can extract better performance after Bahrain only shows how far the gap is between a racer who raced with terrible car as George drove Williams (who can say have a terrible car if compared to the multiple Constructor title winning machinery) while Lewis Hamilton driven once without a driver with similiar skill set (unlike in 2009)
Ferrari and Red Bull will always have upgrades they plan out (even a B-Spec car) and mind you Ferrari has yet to update their power unit (the engine freeze till 2026)
I am never a Hamilton fan; he is a fast driver if he has the machinery that can complement his skills.

Nice vid. Subbed!
Plot twist: Honda comes back mid season and wins constructors, with mazepin winning drivers championship for them, and grosjean coming in second

9:49 What does it take for RUS to prove that he is "more than Lewis' equal"? It would be great to see them have a _W13_ that was a genuinely consistent challenger for poles and wins.
*Observation*
When an _F1_ driver delivers consistently better performances than his teammate, he tends to have the ear of the technical staff and thus a greater influence on car development.
Russell has dragged that same car in the points in every race , the car is the 3rd best on the grid. Yet wOrsT cAr oF Hamilton's career 🤦🤦
I only feel he has had one bad race this year and that was at imola.
it’s pretty much impossible to do good in modern F1 without an S-tier car
I think the reason why Lewis is underperforming is simply because he isn’t even trying to push. George is getting neck, back, and chest pains from the porpoising so I doubt Lewis wants to go through that for a P4 or p5 which is nothing for his standards. And no I’m not some delusional Lewis fan I cheer for all the young drivers
I can't think of another driver besides Hamilton who had the luck and acumen to land a ride in a top tier team for 17 years running. Having a second rate car and a fast young teammate will be the biggest challenge of his career and I, for one, think Lewis is up to it.
Hamiltons has been the most luckiest driver in Formula One to always have the best car
McLaren was like 2-3 second slower.
The difference between LH and GR is that LH is using sensors and strange assets for the car
for now I think its too early to say, the car seems to be another 2009 mclaren but way more consistent, but I think its more than that.

In today’s world of F1 there would be 2 arguments to this and I’ll use Hamilton as the example
1) “Hamilton would never give up his car like that”……yup, but so what? Neither would Max, Russel, LeClerc, Rosberg, Schumacher, Mansell, Hill etc etc etc - usually it’s only Hamilton that gets a bad rap (pun intended lol)
2) “Hamilton only gave up his car because he can tweet about it” …or words to that effect…in short what ever he does, there is some ulterior motive……and again I use the previous example of all the other drivers.

@@subarnosinha8042 my use of the examples of team orders , and what’s happened in the past was just that - examples.
Don't think both of them are bad cars.
At least not like 2010's Williams or McLaren's GP2 Engine.
Imagine having the 3rd best car on the grid and it being one of the worst of your career
the mclaren was upgraded in germany a b-version which was so much better a race winner multiple times
Everyone always talks about how great Adrian Newey is as an aerodynamicist.
If you ask me A true Legend of an aerodynamicist is Ross Brawn.
mercedes is a great team they will probably have that car running like good mabey before or definitely after the summer break
In Hybrid era for the first time Redbull outplayed and unlap them so Yes in Comparison
lewis and vettle need to end up on a meme team please
When Mercedes make further updates to the car, Hamilton will definitely win a race or two this year. The start of the season has been shocking for him but he’ll bounce back soon.
ha, bounce back
delusion
They cant send parts all races. The budget cap is a factor here
Worst car, but yet Russell has finished all the races so far in the top 6. These excuses made for Lewis are so lame and pathetic
Lewis was quicker in bahrain and australia, jeddah and imola he was pretty bad tho
Seriously.
@@rumblefish9 what about the 2009 car I suppose that good too .
If mercedes can't get the car right, then yes, it will be worse than the mp4-24. Mclaren was able to turn around its fortunes by going back to the drawing board, so here's hoping mercedes does the same.
Merc will probably ask Lewis to concede to Russell especially if Russell get podium consistently.
Mercedes could still win before the end of the season. The car have serious issues, but it isn't that far from Ferrari.
Just drive it, George is doing OK
Hamilton was neat, clean and well groomed looking person back in 2009. Thesedays he wouldn't look out of place living under an overpass. Everytime I see him I feel itchy all over.
what 💀💀
You're so freaking right. He looked like a decent person back then. That's what too much undeserved success will do to a MF.
Nope! The 09 McLaren was much worse. The difference is that Hamilton is in the *twilight* of his career now.
Button was as fast as Hamilton, Alonso, Perez, Magnussen and Barrichello in the same car. So no wonder that Russell can keep up with Hamilton too. There are easily 10 drivers on the current gird on same level as Hamilton.
It's mad we're talking about the third best car on the grid as Hamilton's worst ever car
#blessed
Or is Alfa third best? If it is, the gap between Zhou and Valtteri...and Valtteri and George show it is 30% car and 70% driver. One point vs 24 vs 49.
@@adampetten5349 alfa only competed with Mercedes in imola in changeable conditions, in the first 3 rounds merc were clearly best of the rest on race pace
@@LilRy95 possibly. Bottas is two leagues above Kovalainen but Russell three above.
