- Pecos diamonds are double terminated quartz crystals and clusters that come from the Permian Seven Rivers Formation which outcrops along the Pecos river from north of Roswell down to Artesia, NM. This video shows you where to go and what to look for.
I watched your video, followed the map, and found a handful of diamonds! Thank you so much. You made my trip to New Mexico!
@@taewas81 Awesome, so glad you found some and enjoyed your New Mexico adventure!
This was our first time rock hunting and I have to say THANK YOU!!! The directions were so clear and your explanations made it so easy to find them! We found a ton of rocks in only an hour! We found our new hobby as newlyweds :)
Awesome, so glad this was helpful! And congrats on your wedding and new found hobby! Thank you for watching!
I have a ton of these ! Found them near Bottomless Lakes in Roswell. After a good rain is the best time to go hunting. Theyre lovely
Yes! That’s close to where these were. They are fun to find! Too bad we don’t get much rain in NM, rockhounding after a rain is the best! Thank you for watching!
Hey here in NM and thanks too your video i was able to locate a great location compared to all the info i came with. Thanks soooo much!!!
Yaaay so glad to hear that! Thanks for letting me know, I’m glad you had success!!!
what a cool, informative video!
Thank you!
Thank you for the information I found quite a few!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching!
I feel like I need to spend a week out in NM just going to all these great rock locales. 😁
Yes!!! You should, it would be fun!
I think a week isn’t enough. It’s amazing to live here!!!
thank you for info. i drove from Albq. to Roswell one morning in search of Pecos diamonds Aug. 24.... i was so close, im going back soon. found crystal like you showed and two small pecos diamonds and a bag of cool rocks! ive got the itch to come back asap! i love them so much i need to collect them.....thanks again.
Awesome, glad you found some cool stuff! There’s some other awesome collecting areas, check out RUclipsr the Crystal Collector, he has a Pecos Diamond video with another really good location!
@@GeoRockNerd I absolutely need to come back down this week to satisfy my needs of collecting pesos diamonds! They are so incredible that I have anxiety over them!? (that’s why I need to get back) mentally fulfilling for my soul, such a powerful energy. Plus the awesome gifts they make for family and friends who need that positive energy too. The crystal collector is great info as well. Again thank you!
They are so beautiful! I love that pink color. Thank you for showing the location. I might visit 1~2 days.
Last time, I visited Bottomelss Lakes State Park, I remembered I walked on pinkish looking crystal rock. It was a huge rock. I observed some small pieces. But they were not enough beautiful to take home.
That school rocks hard. Yet it rocks no bricks. US-70 is not I-70. Thanks for teaching me about the Seven Rivers Formation. I found a fancy rock very near the same spot this year after that awesome flood. i think it is a "desert rose". It's the only one I've ever found. Don't stop rockin'. Watch out for snakes!
Haha yeah I realized my I-70 mistake after posting but didn’t want to re-record 😆 Those desert roses are awesome, good find! Thanks for watching!
Thank you, what a through job to help us all enjoy what nature offers.
Thanks for watching, appreciate your kind words too!
Thanks again you helped us find Fluorite and you helped us find Peco Diamonds and they are beautiful. Your directions were very good. Heading back to Michigan today, thanks so much!
Yaaay so glad to hear that! Your comment made my day! This is exactly why I make these videos! Thanks for watching, and safe travels home!
Your knowledge of rocks is awesome from nm too. Keep the content coming. Love it
Thank you Ivan! Appreciate the kind words and thank you for watching!
I think these are the coolest Little things! Thanks so much for your great video. I just found you and subscribed and I'm watching some other ones thanks for a great channel
Wow, thank you for the kind words, it means a lot to me! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the great vid looking forward to seeing more and greetings from Northern California.
Greetings, and thank you for watching!
Those crystals are super awesome! Cleaned up nicely!
Thank you, they are so fun to find!
Very well done! Informative, and interesting. Examples were very effective.! Karen McConville
Thank you! Appreciate you watching!
wow those are ab-SouL-uteLy beautiful ♡💓♡💓♡
Thank you!
what a beutiful color, that pinkish/peach-colored cluster-like/roseshaped ones!!
Thank you, I agree they are beautiful!
This is perfect! Even if I have to stop in between for the incline, it's gentle and I can keep going after a rest. Great for rebuilding leg muscles👍😏💪👏
This would be a better location for you than the fluorite, I think. Very easy walking.
I recently found out about these and have them on my list to add to my collection one way or another...
You gotta come rockhounding in NM! While they are quite humble compared to Herks, they are really unique and fun to find!
@@GeoRockNerd I definitely do very much!! I think they are beautiful and all the different colors the Pecos come in is amazing..
Great video and thanks for directions. What do you use to clean your crystals? They look beautiful.
Thank you, just rinsed the dirt off and let them air dry! Thank you for watching!
I am glad to see this. I already had planned a trip to that area (actually all across middle NM till my coach lost the engine). Hope to be there before hot weather. I subbed ya BTW last week. Havagudun gal.
Thank you for the sub! The spot in this video is only one of many, I need to go to some of the other places and do videos on them too! Such a great area!
Great video 💎
Thank you!
You find a very nice variety of rocks in your videos I've seen so far. I bet you have an amazing collection! I was wondering if you find many creatures such as snakes, spiders and scorpions you have to be cautious of? Those peach/pink looking quartz pieces are so pretty! Nice haul! Wow! Very nice video, I'm really enjoying your stuff! 🙂
Thank you!! My collection is a little ridiculous. Contact me through the group if you want some NM stuff in your collection, lol!
Ran into a beautiful prairie rattler last year rockhounding, I heard a tiny rustle of a leaf as I walked past a rock. She was coiled up, perfectly still, and I just watched her for a moment before she slithered off. Seen a few tarantulas while out and about, and have come across an occasional black widow in a dirt hole. Came across a tiny scorpion once only (near the Pecos diamond spot, actually!) and it was hurrying in the other direction! I never mess with them, and so far, they’ve never messed with me. 🤞🏻👍🏻
Snakes, skunks, scorpions, lizards & the occasional Gila Monster! But if your real observant you can also see dove, quail, cottontail rabbits, jackrabbits, jackrabbit,, & the state bird the road runner! Mule deer & Elk & Black bears in the higher mountains. N.M. is truly the Land of Enchantment!
Very nice, great job!
Thank you!
Awesome video. Been trying to rockhounding. It’s a little overwhelming to know where to start.
It is hard, when I started I had no idea what to look for or where to start either! I’ll be making more videos as I get out to other areas, hopefully they help people!
If you ever come through the Artesia area, I can show you some that I have picked up in my backyard! I live on the east side of the Pecos River in Riverside, most of the ones in my area are white,we have an outcrop of gypsum in my front yard! I live on ChalkBluff road,so named for the large amount of gypsum exposed on the surface. If you're in the area, just stop by #45 ChalkBluff road.
Well thank you very much for the invite Dean that’s so kind of you! I will certainly check in next time I’m in the area, but may be a while since I recently moved out of State for work. How very cool that you have 7 Rivers Gypsum in your back yard that has the Pecos diamonds! So awesome! Thanks for watching, and I appreciate your kind comment!
Thanks. Spectacular.
Thank you! And thanks for watching!
Oh those are very cool! Thanks for sharing. If you have some of these to trade I’m interested! I collect lots of lace agate druse quartz in Missouri
Definitely! I’ll message you!
Wow those are awesome! But I had to stop watching the video because I got motion sickness. Cameras don't focus as fast as our eyes.
Sorry about that, I've tried to get better with more recent videos! Thanks for watching.
@@GeoRockNerd It's okay. A lot of people have trouble with that myself included. Practice makes perfect 😁
@@tashacano3324 Exactly!
I m trying to find the book but not sure what author is did I miss it tried screenshot but no luck thank u so much
Sure, it’s called ‘Gem Trails of New Mexico’ by James R Mitchell. Thanks for watching!
Oh my, interesting. But, I got motion sickness from all the swinging around.
Ranch rd does not show up on maps only Aztec rd
Karr ranch road, can be found by going east of Artesia on hiway 82 past the Pecos River, turn left on the first road on the left past the Pecos River. It is marked by county road signs; go north on Karr ranch rd., past the cattle guard at top of the hill near the caliche pit, on both sides of the road is B.L.M. land unless marked as private or about 3 miles going north you will reach the state of N.M. W.S.HUEY water fowl sanctuary that is marked as state Game & Fish property it is also on the site of the old S.G.Karr ranch! Stay on the county road north of the Huey wildlife/ waterfowl area & you can find Pecos diamonds on both sides of the road; just don't cut ranchers fences & close gates if you open one & you should be OK. Watch for rattlesnakes! All year round; if you choose, you can go back to the hiway & go about 300 yards east of Karr ranch road to ChalkBluff road & you can find some on both sides of the road, but this is also a residential/ commercial road for the oilfields; there are a few places on the east side of the road where a natural spring is & it is on B.L.M. land & not fenced, there are no restrictions on picking up Pecos diamonds, but please respect the oil & gas properties & open range cattle ranches, that lease the state & B.L.M. lands. Unfortunately most of the Pecos diamonds are in fenced in lands near the east side of the river, however there are a few places that have fences with just cattle guards & are legally accessible for the public; again be careful of rattlesnakes & other wildlife; & if you really need help & are nice people, stop by my house @ 45 ChalkBluff road & I can " guide: you to some good diamond places.
@deanhoward4128 HI! My family is fixing to come before Easter (My 4 year old, me and husband) would you be wiling to show us some places? My son loves rocks (us too lol)
Awesome video, Those are very cool finds. I wish I could find stuff like that in my area here in Michigan. Such a beautiful area also, If you want you can see what I find on my Channel. Enjoyed This much and Subscribed your channel, looking forward to more Info and awesome Rockhounding!
Thank you Ed! I have long wanted to go rockhounding in the Great Lakes region, I will definitely check out your videos (and subscribe) so I know what to look for when I finally make it up there!
when i was in new mexico, i traveled east from roswell, there is a road that turns north onto blm land on the cap rock, if you drive in the moring them PECOS DIAMONDs look like shards of glass sparkling in the morning sun, if you go to ANCIENT of DAYs rock and mineral store on second street and ask they should be able to give directions
Great tip, thank you!
Idk about this spot . Seems like junk . There’s tons of cool spots all over there found some peacock ore off a road cut . Pretty stuff
I wish she would have covered more areas and I wish she would stop putting her feet on everything.
