DELTARUNE Chapter 3/4 | Fan-Made Preview

- Howdy, everyone!
When I saw the new screenshots of Deltarune that were shown off for Undertale's seventh anniversary, it inspired me to try to create a "preview" of Chapter 3, based on what the new screenshots were like!
This preview is NOT an animation, it's actually a playable game made with DeltaEngine, a custom framework for Deltarune fan-games that I'm working on for GameMaker Studio. In the future, this framework will be available for anyone to use! For now, I'm still actively working on it, but doing small stuff like this is a fun way to show what the engine is capable of!
I'm considering doing more of these previews in the future, maybe up to two more, one for the new Castle Town content, and one for the Chapter 3 Dark World (the little bit of it we've seen, anyway).

I really like the noelle shown here. Not obsessing over Susie, people need to write her like that more often.
Thanks! Yeah, I didn't want to fall into the trap of writing Noelle as if she only thinks about Susie, because she's more complex than that. I made it very subtle by having her say hi to Susie first before Kris, but not much further than that.
Yeah, that's what I've been saying! Noelle doesn't need to be a Susie-freak
"People" is an interesting way of spelling "Toby Fox"
but noelle IS obsessed with susie in the actual game but i obviously know there is more to her than loving susie

I love how you made susie remind you how to run if you don't run, which I feel like is something toby would do to teach players who skipped chapter 1 and 2.
It will become a literal running gag.

@@dee_jr-real I'm pretty sure in the starting area of the game (forgot the name), she tells you which button to use to run when she calls you a slowpoke.

2:59 One little thing I'd like to point out: Susie doesn't know the game mechanics like that, so if you were to revise this, I would suggest either changing "hold down [x] to run or something" to either "hold down [x] to run, or whatever that book said" or "start running."
Other than that, this is really well-made!
Maybe she can say something like, “Hey kris, remember when ralsei said something like “Hold X to run?” Do that, whatever it is.”
I mean, considering every chapter will have this same thing she has to say, I feel like she would just be able to say "Hold down [x] to run or something" after having said it 3 times.

This is insanely good, its so cool seeing how you interpreted the screenshots. Ill love to check out the DeltaEngine once you're done!
You did amazing writing all the dialogue! It all feels very in-character for everyone!
You replicated the rain effect really nicely, and the bit with Onionsan is golden.
This isn't really an issue and this is a really obscure fact anyways but I do wanna note that the previews for the Light World were actually labeled as Chapter 4 which is interesting!
Nope, only the queen scene
People have unfortunately spread this misinformation everywhere about how everything is from chapter 4, but only the video of queens room actually has it in its filename

You can right click any of the photos from the update log and click "Open image in new tab"
The tab name displays the name of the image, and all of them apart from Green Room start with "ch4"
And foolproofing this, if you still somehow don't believe it, you can right click and click "Inspect".
On the top of the new panel, click Sources. You should see a folder named "assets". Open that folder and open the folder named "images", it should contain all the image files on the page and you can see the names of the files yourself.
TL;DR Please fact check to see if something is correct or not.

Also wouldn't this be chapter 4 (because Susie mentions saving the world a 3rd time, also the filenames for a lot of the images and songs have ch4 in them)

I can’t believe the previews for chapter 3 came out yesterday and you already made a whole 5 minute snippet of the game about it! I love how you depicted Noelle here; not constantly drooling over Susie. And Susie is so in character though-out. And the text about Kris’ throat tightening and Susie picking up on it and trying to help was very sweet. This feels like an actual part of the game, everything feels so natural!!

I really like how well you portrayed Susie and Noelle, and put all those little teaser scenes together in a realistic way
Dude, this is awesome! I realize I'm late to this animation, but this is actually insanely good.
The one thing I'd suggest is adding rain-against-the-window sound effects when Kris enters a building to add a little more ambience but other than that you managed to capture everyone perfectly!! Amazing :)
I love the idea of internet being out for a day (Chapter 2 , Internet theme dark world)
and the TV cable breaking for a day , (Chapter 3 , TV world?)
It’s so surreal to see Deltarune news with a new renaissance of fan work on it. Every time we get new news it just feels unreal

I will say, if you open the images in a new tab you'll actually see that they're ALL labeled chapter 4 except for the Green Room.
Still, this mixes the aftermath of Chapter 3 along with what might happen in Chapter 4's aftermath in a good way

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but Susie telling Kris to hold [X] is a little weird for a lightner, since its usually only darkners that are aware of being in a game. Other than that, this is a lovely video. You have amazing skills to create something at this quality in such a short time!

I feel like the dark world is gonna be the WHOLE house, but hey, maybe it's just the tv? But I would like to see a house dark world, I can only think of one thing yet, but I think the bathroom would be a waterfall type area

Most likely, but the dialogue for all interactions will probably be pretty different.
@@Turbulation1 Yeah, I mean it'd be a pretty big coincidence if one line of dialogue (that wasn't already shown off in a screenshot) was the same as in the actual game.

When I was reading the Deltarune update, in my brain I was thinking "Ricky is gonna make a fake spinoff like he did with the Chapter 2 reveal, isn't he"
The only thing I'd change, is when it starts to rain, maybe the atmosphere would be a bit more somber, instead of the joyful music playing in the bg.

How in the HECK did you make this so quickly??? It’s so good, and it looks just like the real game! The dialogue is spot on, the sprites move in the way a player would, and the only compliant I have is that Susie’s rock throwing animation is too short. Should have extended for a second or so longer. Keep up the great work, and take my subscription!
Felt like this is an actual accurate representation of Deltarune, god the writing skills here are phenomenal.

With the amount of fan trailers for chapter 3/4, it wouldn’t be impossible for Toby to just release the actual trailer on a dummy account and just blend in with the crowd. Sounds like smth he would do
Imagine if the second you exit the diner, you end up hearing a strange noise associated with a Dark Fountain coming from the left of the screen. You eventually have to open the dolrs of the Ic-E's building, where it's revealed that a Dark World has appeared inside of Ic-E's while you were dealing with Tenna's shenanagains, which would start Chapter 4.
The Antagonist for Chapter 4 would be named Ac-E, and she'd be based on both the Ace playing card and an Air Conditioner, and she intends to make everything cold enough for her tastes even when there's an entire segment based on Fridges/Freezers! Hell, she'll even attempt to get more Dark Fountains going because she thinks it'll make things colder for her, and in a way she's almost right, since the Roaring involves a lot of darkners getting turned into statues and all the light getting snuffed out of both worlds unless the Angel's Heaven gets beaten or whatever.
As for the Shadow Crystal Holder, I'm thinking a pest that no resrraunt would ever want to be full of; a rat, perhaps? That, or a kitchen appliance that has a bit of a bad rep these days, like Gas Stoves as I read online looking for ideas for a Shadow Crystal Holder.
I don't mean to downplay your hard work or anything,this looks amazing,is just that those screenshots are actually from chapter 4,it is in the names of the files when you download the images. And also,I don't think that Asgore will be in the Dark World in chapter 3 (it will probably just be Toriel and Undyne,and maybe even Napstablook).
Edit: Also,Susie telling Kris to hold down [X] to run is a bit out of character,but overall it's a really great animation.
They better make a deltarune's "It's raining somewhere else" for this chapter..

Really well done! But it irks me Susie would say to hold X as she is unaware of that existing showing from dialogue in chapter one
I think it’s good as like a general reminder for players who would skip chapters, and like she also reminds you in Chapter 2.

Though to be fair, she doesn’t state holding down the X button by name so it’s an oversight on RickyG’s part, since Kris would self narrate remembering how to hold down X.

Not trying to ruin your hard work but most of these previews we got are from chapter 4. When you download they photos they all have “ch4” in their name somewhere. So I guess in a way, you made a chapter 4 fan made preview!

One thing I think it's funny is that most of the screenshots are actually from Chapter 4, the only screenshot from Chapter 3 is the green room. The songs that are part of Chapter 3 are probably Hometown Day and obviously Green Room, the other one is part of Chapter 4.

At 3:20 ish, I thought it would give a choice prompt, like: hot chocolate/tea (or something idk). I thought this because I know for a fact that it would have sent me into a complete panic if I were playing and had to make that choice.
