I love your, honest & thorough review of PARFUMS de MARLY HEROD. It is one of my favorite fragrances. I have 2 old bottles from maybe 8 years ago and it lasts a long time. I noticed that newer formulations are not as good. My bottle has a dark amber fragrance color. It was always a dark amber color even when it was new. I noticed that newer formulations are either a LIGHT AMBER or YELLOW in color. The fragrance has clearly been re-formulated over the years or PARFUMS de MARLY has issues getting ingredients and has to use different ingredients when they run out of the original ingredients. The consistency with the batches is very disappointing. I have 2 old bottles and I do not have to worry about re-formulations.
I have a bottle from 2014. When i first got it, it was light - almost see through. With time it has gotten dark. The older batches never started out dark orange/red. Vanilla is known to turn orange with time. Decant a 2019/20 batch of herod and leave it in the sun. In a month it'll turn red.
The only sure reformulation was in 2021, because they updated the allergens list. But before that, it's all in your head.
@@upthevilla4281 It is not in my head. I bought Herod when it first came out in 2012 and it was a dark orange color. I know this because I would decant the fragrance, in a clear bottle, when I traveled. I have seen newer batches that are yellow. I store all my fragrances in a cool, dark, dry environment.
@@Ed-ce5mb i used to decant my 2014. It was as clear as day. Theres also pictures on the web dating back to 2014 that show its decanted juice being a yellowish colour. Also look on the fragrantica boards. People used to also complain about performance in 2012. 100% in your head
@@upthevilla4281 you must be Yvan Jacqueline or you work for Parfums de Marly. In 2012, I bought the fragrance & started to decant the fragrance right away, when it was still new. It was an orange/amber color and the fragrance lasted 10-12 hours on my skin and smelled amazing. It was my signature fall/winter scent. I bought a second bottle with the same batch because I loved the juice. Maybe when the fragrance came out they let the fragrance macerate longer before it went to the stores which is why my juice was darker. By the way, when I noticed, a few years ago, a bottle in a store had yellow juice, I called a high end fragrance store and they said that there was a shortage of vanilla and PDM probably had to use either less vanilla or another ingredient to replace the vanilla. They said that they had a lot of returns from customers. Also, fragrance houses buy oils in large quantities. If they run out of oils, they will use another ingredient to replace the original oil. Fragrance house care about selling fragrances & making money. Most people think that fragrances NEVER get reformulated. I guess you are one of those people. I guess La Nuit de l'Homme by Yves Saint Laurent has never been reformulated in your world. BTW, you NEVER proved any points in your posts & when the fragrance first came out MOST people talked about the longevity & how the fragrance lasted 10-12 hours. It made many top 10 lists for longest lasting fragrances. I have perfect vision and I know the difference between orange & yellow. I am not color-blind.
@@Ed-ce5mb lol i dont work for parfums de marly. Herod has always been an average performer, that's my point. It also contains large amounts of Iso-e-super. Abstain from perfume smelling for a week, then do a full wearing of Herod. You'll be surprised - that's the iso-e-super at work.
My 2014 batch had a yellow ish colour. I cant attest to anything before that. I do think there was a reformulation around 2017/18, but nothing to do with performance. More tobacco and less sweet spices is what I smelt.
I just highly doubt Herod was ever a long lasting beastly perfume. I'll see if i can find reviews dating back to 2014 time
Thank you for the review! I got my bottle today (batch 1180376) and the performance is really bad. But the decant I tested a month ago actually has good performance. I'm wondering if this means if I let the bottle sit for a few months the performance will improve? Do you notice any change with your bottle over time? Thank you
Hey Klair, thank you for the comment. I am lucky enough to have had all the time good performing batches. Where did you got yours?
@@razvanyke I got it from an official retailer here in Australia. I believe my batch is manufactured in May 2021 so very recently. May I know the batch code of your bottle?
