LA GOLF'S BEL-AIR VS. SCOTTY CAMERON PLUS // In-Depth look into carbon putters
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 19 янв 2025
- Today we have Ian and Mikey testing the Bel-Air putter vs. a classic Scotty Cameron design.
The Bel-Air features a matte carbon head. The all-carbon construction, a material 5x less dense than solid steel, allows for a much larger area of forgiveness for off-centre hits.
LA GOLF’s Bel-Air features the patented Descending Loft Face technology, but does this truly solve the consistency issues a solid steel putter may have? And will the grooves create better launch angles and yield more predictable rolls?

It would be interesting to see a video on how different grips affect putter rotation like a pistol grip vs super stroke 3.0
would love to see the LAB Link1 putter in something like this
They are scared because they wouldn’t sell any other blade putter brand
@@coreyvanular I have the link1 and i swear it putts by itself as soon as you move your shoulders/arms
@@coreyvanularvery true. It’s the best putting technology ever created and no one else comes close.
Apologies TXG did a review of the DF version 4 years ago. Still, would be cool to see the new models and comparisons!
I really prefer a heel shafted putter, or a classic carbon steel Newport. Different strokes.
Please test the LAB Putters, expensive but extremely stable putters!
recently got a bel-air and I absolutely love it, never felt so confident on the greens before
Adding a like and a comment for the algorithm. But yes, I am enjoying the putting content and would like to see an in depth discussion on which type of player is best suited for different head types (mallet, blade, etc) and the different neck types and what they add to the stroke and ball contact
Really really enjoying the putter content. It's a good change of pace, and super informative!
As many people are already saying, Newport Vs lab link would be amazing, as well as a full LAB review of their entire range. Awesome video as always
Nice one lads. I guess we can thank Karsten for bringing us all such a vast choice in putters ;) The balance of how a putter feels / looks to the user to how it performs numbers wise is always the balancing act. Even though not "fitted", I am really enjoying EVNROLL EV2. A nice balance of a traditional "Anser" head and yet some MOI in there with the plus sized backing.... along with some face tech to get a smooth roll. I'd be curious as to how it tests in your setting.
Love this! Would like to see fitted putter vs old putter on a nice practice green with slope, break, and short medium and long range putts. Lab vs real world, great content.
Enjoyed this one! I'm a bit of a putter spaz and I switch often. Fortunately I do putt well so I've been able get away with it. BTW Ian's watch game is on point. Love to see that beautiful Omega!
Putting a LAGP or Stability Shaft in the Scotty would be an interesting comparison.
The problem is no one on tour is using your mass produced Scotty. They get customized putters that are fit for them. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s better material as well.
Better material is a stretch. Some of the best players use GSS putters which are more expensive to buy, but have no real performance advantage. Trust me I've owned a few. He makes great putters but I'd putt the same with Toulon or any other putter when fitted correctly.
@@DeezzzzNutzzzz again, customization and handcrafted models paired with a sellers market makes for this crazy price. They are made of the same material 🤷♂️
LA Vs LAB would be an interesting comparison 👀
I had so much feel with the LA golf putter. Different worlds.
I went in for a putter fit at CC last week and I was totally hoping the Scotty he handed me would be “the one” because I love how they look and the pros use them. It wasn’t bad but when I tried the new Ping Anser 2D it was glaringly obvious that was my new putter. I don’t begrudge people who buy equipment because they like how it looks but choosing clubs based on function was a no-brainer for me
TBH, I've never really understood the appeal of Scottys. If they look good and feel good and that makes you put better, then great, but a lot of the discourse seems to be that Scotties are the 'gold standard' for putters, and it seems to me that that's more from a branding perspective than a reality perspective.
I've got one word for you......Tiger, Tiger is why they are the "gold standard" @@CrispyGFX
Gaming the square back last month and a half and really like it over the taylormade hydroblast blade I used before
Would love to see a video on the L.A.B link 1 putter as a comparison
At the end of the day I love the golfer who has trust in their flat stick (whatever the brand) but as a Titleist ambassador, I sure like when titleist clubs are competing at a high level. And I’m glad our clubs can fit into a wide spectrum of players.
great content guys, answering questions we all got but didn't know we needed.
You guys should do a review on putters outside with how sound/feel affects distance control and if there are certain brands that have the best sound/feel combo that aids in distance control. Outside of MOI, grooves, which obviously come into play and help with putting, the feedback would be interesting nuance to test. I feel as though there is good reason why so many pros choose the putters they choose (scotty cameron, odyssey, LAB) and it would be interesting to look into why - especially when not all pros are "paid to play" the putters they use. Keep up the great content!
Looks, sound, and feel are important to calm the mind and inspire confidence in putting. I use a Scotty Special Select Newport 2. Have tried all my buddies “tech” putters and have no doubt they offer performance. I still feel more comfortable with an Anser 2/Newport 2 style putter.
are we gonna see mizuno’s new m craft omoi line?
Love these vids! Long time subscriber! You all should test out how the face feels softer or firmer and does it effect roll. Example the Ping Tyne 4, arguably the best softest feeling putter against the Betti’s or Scotties. I’ve played them all and and still go back to the Ping. So does softer or firmer produce a better roll. Thanks for all you guys do!
You guys need to try a Honu Putter! Awesome feel. I switch between my Honu, original Futura and a SIK Flo with a BGT shaft.
Yes I’m enjoying the putter videos, I can use all the putting info I can get to help me make improvements
Really interesting but did you customize the Scotty to win by not changing the weight or sight line of the LAG, but changing the sight line etc of the Scotty? Does a player’s inherent bias overwrite their objectivity forcing swing changes to deliberately encourage and outcome. I ask only as I’ve been considering this comparison, current Scotty vs LA Golf bel air
Interesting video. I know few golfers that actually get fit for a putter. They usually just pic one they like the look and the feel of. That may be costing golfers strokes.
Love the putter content. As a very tall golfer(6'8) I have struggled to match putter extension with swing weight. Most putters feel like I'm swinging an anvil at the end of a rope. Could you guys spend a bit of time on putter length and swing weight? I'd eventually also love a fitting video with a very tall golfer!
Hey there, look at how Jack putted, (hes a much bigger person than ppl realize) just bend over more haha! but seriously, look into super strokes counter weighted grips. They are made for guys like us, im 6.4
@@MrHazz0 I am 6'5" and use 36 inch putters, I counter weighted my Futura using different size bolts until it felt right and then added it under the grip, my driver is also counter balanced.
I use the exact same Scotty Putter. It’s the best putter I’ve ever used. It’s perfectly balanced, it literally feels like I’m putting on a rail.
Great content. Please continue and add even more. I’m an Edel user and would love to see a comparison with another brand on SAM
Seriously enjoyed the comparison. I agree with other commenters that comparing blade to mallet would be interesting as well as grip size/style. Also would like to see a review of a Bettnardi putter if you have not done one yet. Great job. Also, if the Scotty used in the video is not your gamer, then you must average about 25 putts per round.
Great stuff. Can we compare an Evnroll against one. Love my Evnroll
I can't putt better with anything than I can with my Scotty Cameron. Had it since 2012, it's one of the black mist ones with no sight lines. Tried to replace it with lots (and I mean lots) of other putters over the years but nothing works as well for me. I know its subjective and someone else's experience will absolutely vary from my own, but that's my deal.
Mezz putter test?
I have an Odyssey eleven putter , but i am interested in a blade putter. After a couple of months doing research and testing putters I have narrowed it down to a Scotty Cameron , red dot blade putter. But I have ran across Bettinardi putters, so I don’t want to commit to the Scotty until I try the other out . I heard a few story’s , are they equally the same or is one better then the other!
Love this series.
Will you be getting the LA golf putter in the Glasgow store because I used both the Bel-Air and Malibu at LIV Golf London and loved them and would love to be fitted for one
Keep going with the putter reviews!
Great vid. My Golf Spy 2023 testing suggests that the Newport was ranked No.1 from 5 feet……not sure LA Golf version made it into the mix at the time….
They did test that putter there. It didn’t do well overall.
loving the putting content!!!🔥
I have a Scotty with a la golf shaft on it and garsen grip. I want the LA golf putter for my next one lol
Another interesting video. Great to see how important a putter fit is in locking down specs to compare these (or any) putter. Hard to get over how terrible the carbon putter sounds. I tried one out this past weekend and ruled it out almost immediately. Materials matter. Will be curious if some of the other tech (e.g. descending loft) makes a difference on other (non-carbon) putters.
Love seeing the putting content 👏
Great vid - I tried the LA golf belaire and the roll was v impressive but sound and feel were too big a bridge to hurdle. Plus - super shiny price
NEED a review of the LAB putters lads!!
Any testing for the LA golf ball coming up?
Yes, actually filmed that this week. Coming soon.
Shoutout to Karsten Solheim nailing the Anser design 57 years ago, these companies are still riding his wave
I love a putter video. I would like the quintic putter numbers to be converted into thousands so it reads a bit like driver spin i think it would help to separate good from bad putters and strokes
Loving the putter content
How do you bend the LA putter?
No need to mess with perfection. Using my Scotty for 9 years now.
Is the entire head of the LA Golf putter made from carbon? If so, how were you able to adjust the loft/lie?
With Mikey having slow rotation and not really a sweep (likely bad choice of words, not how to describe it), it would be interesting to see someone with a larger grip size that has a somewhat locked in arm motion (Mikey like many players looks like he likes a "handsy" feel). Fun watch nevertheless, cheers lads.
I'm still using PING anser 4 circa 1984...and putting is strong point of my game...I've used pricey putters in the past, always go back to my PING...I guess just use what works.
Thank you Karsten! Way ahead of its time.....
Is toe hang something you can adjust? Shaft change?
You’d have to change the neck/hosel. Requires a custom putter studio and a fair bit of money.
I play a light putter. Old carbon steel Scotty. I’ve tried everything else…I just like a lighter putter (lighter for the Anser style).
I picked up a LA Malibu at a deal, out of curiosity around the LA shaft primarily. The sound/feel off that carbon face was an immediate turn off. I play the Chrome Soft X that normally feels/sounds as soft as anything off my LAB Blad. Off the LA it sounds like I’m rolling a ping pong ball, just plastic-y and cheap feeling. Unfortunate, because I think they have some interesting tech going with their head construction and the SIK face
What’s the price difference? No lefties as of yet for LAGP
Would love to see Ian break down a L.A.B. Golf putter fitting. Myth or Science?
My gripe with Scotty is on Bermuda greens. I see on GCQuad that the Scotty doesn’t roll good on strikes that is not perfect. Ex. Face angle, aoa, and strike location. Other putters with tech seem to roll better in these scenarios.
I’d love to see LAB golf Mezz or Link1 tested!
Ian, great shirt
…for sale item?
I have the Newport+ I will not be switching any time soon.
Tried one of these at my local pga store and it took me no more than 2 putts to hate the sound and feel of the lagolf.
The Godfather, Karsten Solheim, of the fundamental design concept for both putters warrants some consideration-
…is it possible for Ping R&D working ahead to accomplish similar advances?
Yes keep the putters going!!! Tri-Hot 5k Double Wide DB please!!!!! I will donate on that one!
Great video! If you are prepared to drop $400+ on a new putter, you got to get fitted! The sound of the LAB Golf putter would be annoying to me. I love my Phantom X 7! I don’t see changing anytime soon.
LA putter, right? Not LAB.
@@dabdias Correct. LA Golf putter.
I'd love to see if there's any real substance to Scotty's "R&D." A comparison to the Anser and several other anser copies would be interesting.
Love, Love, Love the putter content. The most over looked club in the bag! Hate to hear a lady player said "it was my husband old putter" or any player say "it's a putter does it really matter".
Agree fully.
Could you add lead tape to the LA Golf, since Mikey wanted more weight? I’m speaking with no knowledge.
Would love to see a head to head with an old mallet like a Bobby Grace Fat Lady Swings and something new like a TM Spider
Good test. The look and feel of a putter is very impotent...which can be effected by grip size; the shaft construction, weight and length...just to name a few elements. Perhaps that is why of all the club golfers own...the putter is usally the most in their closet and year-in-year-out...they always go in the back and come out.
You really need to setup the putters the same to compare the heads. Put a LAGF shaft in the Scotty!
Let's not beat around the bush, the LA Golf putters feel and sound terrible. They have a dead & plastic feel to them and they align the putter shaft with the logo straight up which is super distracting. Add on top of that the fact you can't adjust them for loft/lie and you come up with a dud of a putter. I will admit the heads look cool with the wood grain look of the carbon fiber.
As TXG added loft to the LA Golf putter in the video, it seems you can adjust at least the loft. Not a fan of the sound though, however, if I found it performed better for me than I would get used to sound and feel
Nothing like the feel of metal, I dont get along with insert our synthetic putters either
Lab link 1 time!!
love it
Must admit, I was a bit concerned boys with the branding change, Matt’s second exit, etc.
I was wrong…. You are killing it. Well done.
Not me. I am struggling with the channel. Content is a bit less compelling to me. They need to get the different live fittings going again.
I prefer a dot, too. Though my gamer has no center mark.
If you wanted, a Master Fitter/Builder at Club Champion could always put a dot sightline on your putter!
Redo all the old videos under the CC banner. Thanks!
Lab link 1 comparison please lads… I’m hunting one down on eBay 😂
The only issue I have with the La Golf putters is the massive logo down the sight line of the shaft. So distracting.
Joe asked is Ian sick. I think he may a have a dose of the blues it is raging in the west of Scotland 🏴
Im not clear on how one “mishits” a putter stroke. The clubhead is not coming through at 100+mph! WHO is out there making so many mishits that an Anser style head does not provide enough forgiveness?
Smaller margin for error, you hit the driver maybe once per hole, the putter, once, twice, three times....
Putter does not require swing speed. Steel shaft only
Another challenger, but the same victor. Putting is majority touch, not tech. Scotty introduced vanity to the inexact science. It makes just as much sense as missing 3-footers. Yet we all do.
Paige ain't got nuthin' on our boy Mikey.
The problem with Scotty is that R&D exists for your players playing tour only or proto whereas consumer is re-release, or change the color.
I'll buy a Cameron when they clean up the cavity. Drop the cherry bombs and put a script Titleist. Would be cleaner
it was really disappointing when LA Golf vaporized SIK and true milled putters with descending loft tech just so they could sell this over priced thing that sounds like a bad toy. pair that up with their clicks ball for the roughest sounding set up on the putting green!
I tried an LA golf putter, felt cheap, sounded cheap and then I saw the price and
I laughed! I will keep my metal Cameron til I can’t play anymore.
That LA putter is hands down the worst feeling putter I’ve ever rolled in my life
If next putting video was about weight (swing weight, impact of relative distribution of toe / heel weight on release characteristics, etc.) I’d be in hog heaven.
Better to test the average weekend golfer. They’ll benefit more from the tech in the LA GOLF
Tried the LA putters. Felt and sounded horrible
Bettinardi is where it’s at!
Golf manufactures can make anything with some marketing Bs and golfers eat that S**t up .
Quintic needs a UI overhaul, haha. Looks like 1994 software. If they switched to Trackman’s font and layout, it could add $100M in market cap.
The Wizard isn't just knowledgeable about the equipment but of the mechanics of the swing. Learn young one.
is anyone buying the LA Golf putters & balls??? seems like a disaster
Is Ian sick?
