      PS4 is still a beast. The library is huge spanning from PS2 classics, PS3 remasters, and PS4 itself. People inject unofficial PS2 classics on it. The performance varies though. But as a budget gamer, PS4 can fill the need of gaming for a decade lol

    • @bamcorpgaming5954
      @bamcorpgaming5954 2 года назад +3

      @@main_tak_becus6689 yea , I just prefer to do all my gaming on PCs, because you can keep the same library when you upgrade your PC, and even take the same library on the go with you on a handheld like the steam deck, Aya, or Ayn handhelds. So the fact that this can be used as a PC is a huge boon because I have literal hundreds of games I haven't even booted up in my library (due to steam sales, and g2a, and humble bundle), it would be perfect to play some indie titles on, if I was in a mood to tinker. Kind of bothers me you have to jailbreak it each time you boot it manually and can't just have it boot right into Linux, but it's a console so 🤷‍♂️. I do have tons of titles on the ps4 from the ps plus thing but as all my friends/family play on PC, I tend to prefer that as my main platform if I were to put any time Into playing a game so thats why I said the ps4, for me, collects dust. Though the kids might inherit it once they're old enough to figure out how to use it.

      I think when I have the money I might buy a PS4 to hack it, I already have a hacked PSP, Wii U and 3DS. (And by that time there would probably be more exploits or it would be more stable/less crashing)

      @@bamcorpgaming5954 I love pc gaming but when I had a PC with Ryzen 5 2600/ RX 570 4gb/ 2x8 ddr4/ ssd sata many games just performed bad. I paid for this build twice of the price of PS4 Slim back then. I built a cheap PC last week with Core2Duo and GT 620 and I play older games now and the pc can play the majority of them at 60fps. I don't have the budget for high end gaming PC and building a mid range build will obsolete pretty fast. I wish I had a PS4. I bought a PS2 last year and the majority of games have frame rate issue (like sub fps). Maybe I'm used to play games on emulation that emulators get rid of slowdowns that were exist in the original hardwares. I'll build a good pc again in two years from now maybe.

    • @bamcorpgaming5954
      @bamcorpgaming5954 2 года назад +2

      @@main_tak_becus6689 i guess it depends on your definition of bad. because that build should have been fine. when i say fine i mean 60 fps, 1080p fine if you mess with settings. i used a rx 480 for years and it was more than enough for anything i played even at 2560x1080. Only thing id say mightve been your problem is 8 gigs of ram just isnt enough these days, id say 16 minimum. the ryzen is fine, the 570 is fine, and sata ssds are fine im thinking your ram was the problem, 8gb hasnt been enough ram for ages tbh (like since 2015). I used an old old xeon, rx 580 and 16gb of ram for years and never had any issues. Sidenote: ive seen benchmarks for the old core2 chips, phenoms, and opteron chips and they hang in there surprisingly well for how old they are, especially if youre ok with 30 fps (which i played at for years, as a matter of fact even with my OP rig star citizen only runs at 30-40 fps. )

    I think it's pretty great that you can run Game Cube games on a newer playstation. I really love that modern consoles are basically just very highly custom PCs. Since they started running AMD APUs, the consoles are a lot more useful for general purpose computing. Like, the Cell CPU in the PS3 was a monster in it's day. Though it was PowerPC architecture, and the RAM config was kinda dumb. Everything I've heard about developing games for the PS3 has been negative, so I can only imagine trying to use it as a PC wouldn't be a good time.
    I wonder if anyone has made a translation layer to run Xbone games on it. I very much doubt it could emulate them. But the PS4 and PS4 Pro are the more powerful version of the same APU. more or less. It'd be interesting to see if there's anyway to "trick" it into thinking it's running on the Xbox One. Seeing Xbox exclusives on a PS4 would be hilarious

    • @SamRecon
      @SamRecon 2 года назад +2

      Linux community can build drivers but eDRAM of Xbox custom APU its 1st hardware issues and 2nd librarys, POSIX, customs DirectX for console work like another language reversed engine need; and emulation Xbox One need custom Xbox One OS for PS4 to do the job because there's no RAM upgrade for PS4.

    Lets talk about performance:
    CPU: 8C Jaguar @ 1.6Ghz = Way too slow for gaming.
    RAM: 8GB GDDR5 = Not bad, the best balance is the 2GB VRAM mode, that leaves 6GB for system RAM.
    GPU: GCN 2.0, 1152 shaders @ 800Mhz = Not bad, with the 2GB mode the performance is similar to a R7 370, this means that gaming at 720p would be fine even in modern games.
    Storage: i would go for an SSD, they are super cheap these days, 1TB SSD should do just fine.
    So the bottleneck on the PS4 its definitively the CPU, it holds back the linux gaming experience by a lot. However there is a way to improve CPU performance, OVERCLOKING, yes, 1.6Ghz its way too slow, this gives the CPU a multi core performance similar to a second gen i3.
    If the CPU could be overclocked to 3-4Ghz then the situation would change drastically, multi core would be on par with a second gen i5. With this performance u could run modern PC games on the PS4 at 720p with 30 or 60 FPS depending on the game.
    I have seen modded linux PS4 runing at 3.4Ghz on the internet, if this clock is stable and sustainable then PS4 linux could be a viable gaming experience in 2023.

    i actually own a hacked ps4 pro as well and honestly the homebrew community is so creative from custom games to full on apps that once you have you can't live without. tbh Sony should tap into this creativity more I'd love to see things like ftp on the ps5 officially released or the option to run Linux on the ps5. really makes you think if it's worse not to mod just because at least your console can use it's full potential now i don't support piracy which is a horrible thing that spreads around the hacking community which is why i would naturally say please buy your games :)

    9:50 there's a big problem with video playback on linux browsers in general, not exclusive to ps4, 99% of them won't use hardware acceleration to decode videos, making a considerably good hardware like the ps4 drop frames on 1080p 60fps youtube videos

    You can probably get better PS1 and PSP emulation with this than the new subscription service.
    I'm not too sure about PS2 though. Maybe injecting different ISOs into the official emulator would work better for some games.

      I have a regular jailbroken PS4 and PS2 games work very very well. A lot of ISO's are modified for better performance and have widescreen patches etc.. and I've been playing a lot of different PS2 games that aren't officially supported and they look and play fantastic. An absolute world of difference visually compared to a regular PS2 on a modern TV.

    While its nice to be able to do this with a PS4, the Jaguar CPU cores in there are too weak to expect much from. Even on the PS4 Pro they only run like 2.1ghz, and weren't the best cores to begin with. You wont be able to do much compared to a dedicated mini PC.

    Try enabling ZRAM and playing demanding games or PS3 emulation. ZRAM increases the available RAM by compression.
