I completely agree with 太后 in terms of the language issue. My secondary school teacher in HK warned us to not stick with HK group when we emigrated to Canada. Assimilation is the key to successful integration. I did that and no regrets. Been here 49 years. Not going back.
I am to tell you, never too late to learn, especially language skills is a tool for your daily life. I am a senior of 80s and wish that you can a grow more mature and productive in other parts of the world. This is my wish to you in the year of snake
Watching TV shows, dramas is much easier and faster to pick up local English because you learn not just the way they talk, but the tones to express in different situations. If you solely learn English from news, the anchors speak too formally, you may not get the English you need daily with your community people

嗰位女士講得太誇張 ，雖然而家香港真係多咗好多內地人， 但不至於 要用普通話溝通 這位女士講得太誇張 香港仍然有好多香港人喺度住 仍然都係講廣東話 只不過日常返曬工， 家庭主婦老人家又唔會成日去shopping， 條街得返所謂的內地遊客較多 所以聽到普通話嘅較多
