Reveal: A Brand New Music Track From Cyan Worlds' Riven Remake!

- NEW MUSIC is coming to our forthcoming remake of Riven, which will be releasing this year!
Robyn Miller, Cyan Worlds' co-founder and original composer of Myst and Riven: The Sequel to Myst, is creating new music for our highly anticipated Riven remake. This marks Robyn’s return to the franchise he co-created after 27 years, for which he also composed a memorable and fan-beloved soundtrack.
For this remake, Robyn will bolster the already iconic soundtrack of the game with four brand-new musical movements. The track we are sharing today is Part IV of a larger piece of music, which is titled "Into the Unknown, Part IV."
More details regarding release platforms and availability for Riven’s soundtrack will be announced at a later date.

Riven has always been my favorite Myst game. I can't wait for this remake.
I'm curious how they'll solve the FMVs. If they do CGI, as is likely, I hope they'll go more the Firmament route than the Myst (2021) route.

Yeah, I suspect that's the case. I think most of the new music will be for Tay, which will be explorable in the remake.

Riven was my first introduction to the Myst series growing up. I was five at the time on my family computer. And while the puzzles were hard, I found my way through and still remember them over twenty-four years later.
I was about 12/13 when i saw it on a friends computer, it completely shifted how I looked at technology, from that moment on I realised that you could create worlds through them and I havent stopped since
Same. I was 7 or so when I first watched my mom play. I finally finished the game on a livestream in 2022 and it was the most satisfaction in finishing a game I have ever experienced.
I think I was 1 or 2 when I did my first playthrough. Got ya beat buddy.

@ParagonBondOO7 I spent several months on that game doing trial and error on a few of the puzzels. So, I wouldn't give myself too much credit for it.
Heck, I still cringe thinking about how I was reading the journals and pronouncing islands as "Is-lands" like an idiot.

I use a mix of music from all six games for that purpose.
Riven is my all tme favorite game, and favorite soundtrack, and Robyn Miller is one of my favorite composers, but this music does NOT fit into the riven soundtrack. If it was placed into the current soundtrack, it would stick out completely. All the other tracks flow together like they are a part of Riven, but this is like a track from Firmament inserted into Riven. I like it very much, but it just doesn't fit into the original flow. Ive listened to the Riven soundtrack at least a few times a month since 1999 when i aquired the soundtrack, so im extremely familiar with it, and thats where im coming from. Excellent new track, and i look forward to the remake, ill buy a VR set for it, this track is just not Riven to me. Just my opinion, plz don't hurt me.
Nice piece but doesn't sound quite as 'other wordly' as the original soundtrack, more like a track from Firmament, just my first impressions.
Seems a bit obduction-y, maybe change the instruments to the classic soundfont. The music itself is great though, 4/5

I am so excited I'm getting chills. I cannot wait to experience this new iteration of the game for the first time with my spouse as I did for the first time so many years ago with my mother. These games have been such a big part of my life that my mother threw me a Myst themed 30th this year. This year will also be my first Mysterium and the Riven Remake is coming out?? What a year 💚💚
I really like the music, but I feel it's a little out of place compared to the original tracks for Riven. Riven is a dying world, in it's last death throes, and the original OST for Riven seemed to reflect that - it's very melancholy, uneasy, mysterious... This track seems more hopeful, peaceful, and positive in comparison.

Learning that Robyn will be back for the soundtrack just made me a bit emotional. This games memories and especially its music accompanied me through most of my life. So excited for the final product!
Cyan please Don't forget the Elevator soundtrack made by Hollister for the Starry expanse project, because it sounds good and it would be a shame not to use it.
it feels really dead to me, other than the old tracks. especially for riven that is one of the most alive ages in the myst seires. this track will make you feel really lonely. very different but we will learn to love it equally
pleas dont make the soundtracks strictly tied to locations. i dont want to hang out in front of the wahrk idol all the time to heare this magnificent music only to cease abruptly when i take one step back.

Original music will still be there in all the proper places... But this remake will have a need for new music as well. I can say no more... Shhhh. ;-)

Riven was such an influential game for me growing up and the soundtrack was something I used to study/write to. So excited we're getting an expanded game with new music. Any guesses which new area they might put this into?

Incredibly lovely. Some of my earliest memories are is watching my siblings play Riven, and the game has entranced me and defined me in many ways. I'm beyond excited to play the remake!

My hope is to finish it before the remake so I can see what's changed/what was added, but one of the friends I got started on it might wait as well (FMV point-and-click takes some getting used to if you haven't played them for decades 😅), so either way is totally valid.
@@zigorously yeah, that's entirely valid. Gosh though, I remember doing chores for my grandparents for a week or two to buy Riven. It took me a long time to beat the game but by the end I had a tattered notebook full of sketches, clues and theories. I wish I had held on to that.
I'm very excited about this but it just fuels my questions... Will there be a big screen adaptation or mini series based on The Ronay, Veovis, Gehn, Atrus, the Cleft, Ti'anna, D'ni city, etc?

This game was DELICIOUSLY hard to play. Oh my. It took literally years of my life, on and off, during high school. Second time I played it, in my thirties, I did it in a month. Seems like I wasn't mature enough at the time...
I am so ready for this Riven remake. I just went back and read all of the books over the last couple months. If any of you are interested - read Book of Atrus, Book of Ti'ana, Book of D'ni. So amazing - especially for preparing for Riven : )
It’s simply not a Myst game without Robyn Miller crafting the ambience. His thoughtful approach to music makes every piece of the game fit together.
Especially in the case of Riven, Robyn forged the tone and soul of the game through the music for many many players.
This is a great move by Cyan. I'm ordering my copy as soon as it's available. They should do the same for the rest of the Myst games. No timed puzzles please. I still haven't completed Myst IV Revelation because of that silly vibrating crystal puzzle.
I've been secretly hiding my anticipation for this game from everyone, but I am fully anticipating losing myself in this game the day it drops. Living in the world of MYST is my lifelong dream.
Myst is incomparable with any other graphic adventure type game. It is a mix of visual beauty, history and very high difficulty. All of this implemented with its own game system. In my opinion, the classic "advance through screens" mode is essential and I would not change it for another since that is what makes it unique and different from any
Robyn's music for Riven was hugely influential on my own music. I hope to put out a fan remix/cover this year

Ohh, I quite like this, it fits with the world well. I can hear some of the original choral tones woven in also. I’m guessing this will be on the starter island, perhaps the beetle temple? I hope we get to hear some of the original themes dispersed throughout, too. I’m remembering the blue stone tunnel, and the animal puzzle room… the sounds that made Riven *feel* like Riven.
Oh god, I am so excited and seeing these still images from the game are bringing back memories.
I still have all five CDs in their original cardboard sleeves with the artwork intact. Sadly, one CD needed to be resurfaced but other than that it's near mint.
Never been a fan of the music on its own, it always seems 100x better when in game as it adds so much to it. Love the screenshots though and can't wait for the game (at least until i find that it can't be played with mouse only like the original)
i dont understand why they dont just make another riven. just make a really cool 2d pre-rendered story with the same aesthetics and have robyn make a new soundtrack for it. it would be awesome and everyone would love it. the more recent games are cool but there is something so timeless and amazing about pure 2d pre-rendered.

It doesn't feel like Riven. Riven's music is consistent this feels different you would need to use it in a contexte that is different to the reste of the game. this was my constructive criticism have a nice day (the song is still great.)

Teasing is just cruel sometimes. Yes, it's wishlisted, etc etc Any chance of another new game in future? I went back and replayed Riven only a couple of years ago and am working hard on memory erasing. Still getting goose bumps at the very idea of the re-release - and the music does sound fab. There you are, gave my decade of birth away.
It's absolutely insane how much Robyn has influenced my taste in music over the years. My love of ambient, new age, prog and post-rock stem almost entirely from my love of the Myst and Riven soundtrack.
Also, a new Yeesha, without tattoos and looking more like "Celtic Woman," has four beautiful daughters equally talented writers of ages. Aah, so much creativity, beauty and fantastical places awaits us! Well, I can dream, right? Thank you and keep up the good work.
I'm absolutely thrilled that Robyn Miller is back for Riven Remake... that soundtrack is spellbinding so to have Robyn compose something especially for the remake is very special indeed. It sounds enchanting and atmospheric. Love it.
I remember playing Riven when I was in Jr High…5 separate disks! Looking forward to visiting an old friend again. Recently returned to Myst via Mac.
Robyn Miller’s Riven soundtrack has sparked my imagination and soothed my soul for nearly 3 decades. It’s incredible that all these years later Riven still has more to give. Beautiful track. I cannot wait to experience the Fifth Age all over again.
