Dublin City's Nightclub Scene, Ireland 1970

- The number of late night entertainment venues offering music and dance is growing in Dublin.
As music choices change so too do outlets for different kinds of music. Dublin, like most cities, has seen the emergence of a vibrant nightclub scene. The latest addition to this scene is the Go-go girl.
Pop music captures the excitement and all the enthusiasm of youth. There’s nothing intellectual about an appreciation of pop music. It’s something which compels you onto the floor and makes you want to dance.
‘Seven Days’ visits the nightclubs of Dublin to speak to customers and club owners about what actually goes on in these venues.
"Swinging London is only an hour away. The Costa Brava has shown how to mix sex with sausages and fish and chips for lots of Irish people. And what happens in Dublin will eventually happen in Templemore if previous patterns are repeated."
For many revellers, the night does not end when the clubs close. It is on to Gigs Place for a late night feed.
This episode of ‘Seven Days’ was broadcast on 20 March 1970. The reporter is John O’Donoghue. Развлечения
Down with that sorta thing!
Careful now!
The girl at 1.34 was stunning. She probably in her 70's now! 😳
Brush Shields & Skid Row were an incredible live band. Oh for a time machine to bring me back to 1970.
Liam Lyster, if you find that time machine could you give me a heads up, Jaysus I’d give anything to go back to 70s Dublin, ahhh home sweet home 😉
@@Analiffey1916 Dublin and the rest of the Republic now look like part of Africa-do you live in Ireland?
@@Analiffey1916 We will go back together Mary. Keep you posted.
Fucking stunners the lot of them.. It's backwards we have gone.
If everyone left there faces alone and stopped with fake tan, buckets of makeup and injections into their faces we'd have prettier population.
People tend to model themselves off the tramps and eejits on U.K and American reality shows. It's why I love the Belgians and the Dutch. The people don't tend to alter their appearance trying to hide everything they are and they're much prettier.
Yep, I literally thought the exact same thing. Not one of them obese or overweight. Nowadays people can't be bothered to look after their health.
Big time. Our gene pool has been badly watered down.
@@backwoodsman Nose piercings & Tattoo?
None
No McDonald's in those days 😉
Brilliant footage!! Mass then dance

Good on you👍☘
Funkadelic had great records in the 70s! Great decade for music anyway
Lovely video as always, thanks c.r 😎
1:34 my god she's absolutely stunning, i gasped
Down with this sort of thing!!
Careful now.
What happens in Dublin stays in Dublin
Speechless.
Down with this sort of thing, lol. That girl at 0:48 is absolutely stunning,
Yes she is. In her 70s now. Wonder what became of her?
Her granddaughter who looks like she did then, is traveling around France and has a RUclips channel called Amelia In A Van ruclips.net/video/3HOnkMVBx7E/видео.html and she has great taste in music too.
She still comes in of a Friday night.
Dresses the same…
I think she became a dance teacher.
Nice looking girls….if only I had a time machine where I could whisk myself back to 1970’s Dublin - It looked like fun to me. All probably somebody’s grandmother now.
Peter phosphate, your not alone kid, I too would go back to the 70s Dublin in a heartbeat! Off to Fleet Street and sloopys disco! Oh happy days! The craic was ninety!!
Ya you and me,The girl in the middle video talking about go go girl ,She be my pick
I'm not a grandmother ...... but I'm old! Dublin was definitely the place to be in 1970! 🥰
@@deborahwylde1410 I have pretty fond memories of the 1970’s but London was my city at that time.
Yeah... Now all the youngones look like tubs of curry haha
Mixing sex with sausage's and fish and chips! Some pretty snappy editing in this piece, made me think of the jump cuts in Easy Rider
Shot at McGonagles Dublin, then known as The Crystal Ballroom
Visited both as a teenager when it was The Crystal Ballroom and then years later when it was McGonagles. Happy daze!
Was in the Crystal one night ....there was a power cut ....the band was banjaxed!
Dancing was so much more expressive in those days.
Maybe you should try yoga and dancing with mutual open mouth breathing and rebreathing of each other?
Explore and adore.
The girl at 1.32... So Beautiful... 🙂
Yes fab bone structure and wonderful eyes!
That girl at the end who’s mother comes to the club so she can’t say anything… reminds me of me and my folks
Update this happened in templemore earlier this year
Did he mention strip clubs? That's 3 hail Marys 🙌
and with inflation now.. oh my goodness.
I loved the fleadh cheoil !
That's nice there hasn't been one for two years and the next one is being held in Mullingar at the end of July 2022.
Some nice totty back then.
They would have loved the nightclubs of the 1990s, everyone danced on their own.
Ta si alainn at 1:32! She’s beautiful!
@@shane-irish You're some tool, ever been outside your house?
This is the beginning of the end
The beginning of fun?
Then back to The Gigs Place in Portobello for steak and chips.
And you had Caroline Records next door.
surprised this many decades old black & white historical film has survived am shocked.
RTE have an archive section so I guess they were all archived and stored away for years and then probably backed up to digital.
Idole
I tell you it's the slippery slope into moral depravity.
Tizz true! My mum got pregnant whilst dancing "The Monkey" ON THE DANCE FLOOR! Not just that, but an uncle of mine went crazy & burnt a local church to the ground. It was well known he was a regular frequenter of local "discos".
(Btw - even though it was only a Protestant church, he still had to serve time for it - ! But we have to remember, those were different times).
It was

Are you for real? At least it wasn't a barn (look up Scullabogue Barn massacre). I suppose we should be grateful for small mercies. Some of us are trying to move on you know, but we're not going to get very far whilst we still have bigots like you around!
It ultimately was. Ruinous
I’m just a man of culture here to study this archival footage, like the rest of you.

They all stood in line waiting for the sheep shearer.
There were skinheads then as well
I wonder whether any of them were in the Stardust club when the fire happened.
My cuz was in the stardust on valentines 1981, he was one of the lucky ones! God rest all them 48 souls
@@Analiffey1916 True for you. The poor kids.
Was in Disney world last week in Hollywood studios at an exhibit that detailed Disney parks. Was told we couldn't have soft drinks in the exhibit and needed to leave. Tried the first exit door and it was locked. Stardust was the first thing that came into my head!
Are Ya dancing or wha ?
0:12 holy shit, rare footage of Mickeys mum from Snatch when she was just a youngin pikey
Canned Heat cover band 😮
Look how gorgeous irish and British ladies were back then. Slim but buxom. Also no acne and androgenous body hair. They were close to perfect!!!
Selection bias
Better food than nowadays!!
Black and white hides a lot of imperfections, nothing has changed. Dublin is still full of beautiful women.
@@RazorMouth yes but they are fatter and more masculine with bigger bums and thighs. Just like in London, New York,Sydney and Toronto!!!
Why didn't Ireland put up a real Irish beauty as a Miss World candidate?
They did, but gogo dancers were banned on ethical grounds 😳
They did, Gladys Waller. She came second or third,
We need to bring back words like sexy kicks, that band was pretty good and is it me or were all the women sexy as fuck back then.

Still waiting for the Go Go dancers in Templemore .
Irish. Probably student who worked in SF for the summer and picked up the accent. SF absolute sh now.
Mmm.Last time I was there it was dead and filthy dirty up around there .
Some really posh accents here
Wank bank deposits in Ireland went into overdrive the evening this was broadcast for sure!
Excitement wasn't allowed in Ireland in those days. Anything racier than dominoes had the church in a panic.
