"Tonight, Tonight" by The Smashing Pumpkins is an absolute must reaction
My fave!!! And I think J and Amber will LOVE the orchestral aspect of it!!!
"Today".
How About " bullet with butterfly wings "
Just the drums alone is
Rocket, Disarm, or Thirty-Three - would love to see any of these
To me this song is about the nostalgia, rebelliousness and confusion of being a teenager. 1979 is when the singer/writer would have been a kid coming into adolescence. It's artsy in that it is more about painting the picture than describing it literally. Being an outcast teen, not knowing where you'll end up, feeling the urgency of the current moment, not worried about tomorrow, not caring how things turn out just going with the times and the music, to me, sounds like that too, it feels like that. It's why I love this song.
Wow, thank u so much for putting it all into perspective, so nostalgic for me as a kid growing up in the 70s..... The 90's bands were so kickass! I remember my daughter and me watching VH1 and MTV, we loved Smashing Pumpkins!!! We also loved Smashmouth, Maroon 5, Lit, Everclear, Green Day, Weezer, and No Doubt, omg I can go on and on! I love the 80's music, it's my second fave decade after the 70s, but the 90's bands will always hold a special place in my heart.🥰💞
I was born in 1979 and was about 15/16 when this song came out.
Same, I was just able to go out with a car and friends in '79. When this song hit it was pure nostalgia. Smashing Pumpkins hit a home run.
Very good description 👌.
@@katherinemurray8841 I'm glad you have a really meaningful connection to the song then. 🎉
Definitely my favorite band of all time. Cherub Rock, Disarm, Bullet with Butterfly Wings, Tonight Tonight, Mayonnaise, Today, and any number of other songs
Plus I was born in 1979 so this one is definitely special lol
Ava Adore
@@tonygarat2953 best year to have been born☺️
They simply don’t put out bad music.. ever.. to this day imo
Agreed
This entire album is fire. Easily one of the best albums of the 1990s.
one of the great double albums...
the first 3 albums are all incredible. Adore (1998) had a few GREAT songs on it, but overall a totally diff feel, as the band was massively changing. Gish, SD, and Mellon are all soooo good
Siamese Dreams
I lived for this album when it came out in the 90s!
YESSSSSS! It's long past time you did a Pumpkins song!!! (HInt: Please do Live next - "Lightning Crashes" is a phenomenal song.) "1979" is maybe my favorite of theirs, but in the 90s, these guys ruled alternative radio. "Today", "Bullet With Butterfly Wings", "Zero", "Tonight, Tonight", "Disarm", "Cherub Rock", "Rhinoceros", "The Everlasting Gaze"... the list goes on and on. Billy Corgan is a truly underrated vocalist, and I'm glad you finally got to hear him. And yes, pleeeeez do more 90s. Other suggestions - "Sweetness & Light" by Lush; "Here's Where the Story Ends" by The Sundays; "Fait Accompli" by Curve; "Carolyn's Fingers" by Cocteau Twins; "Closer to FIne" by Indigo Girls. By the way, all of these suggestions would work for Female Friday.
Agree too long
I misread this comment and thought they were saying the pumpkins did Lightning Crashes haha which made me scratch my head like did they do a cover? but like I said I misread it my bad
Wow! U know the Indigo Girls?? So cool, they deffinately need to check them out:
Great list! After 1979, I'd follow up with Disarm and Today. Other songs from the 90's: PAVEMENT: Range Life (references Smashing Pumpkins), THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN: Far gone and out (a major influence on Smashing Pumpkins), RIDE : Time Machine (soundscape unlike anything heard before on this channel)... all critically acclaimed and highly influential!
Agreed. So many bands from the 90’s and 2000’s they have been missing. Weird song to start Smashing Pumpkins with. MUST do LIVE next. What about Harvey Danger? More Weezer. Nine Inch Nails, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Green Day, Garbage, The Killers, A Perfect Circle, Muse, Breaking Benjamin, etc.
The Pumpkins were the crown jewel of Chicago alternative rock in the 90s. Their entire discography is one gigantic vibe (thanks to the almost endless textures of singer/ guitarist Billy Corgan and guitarist James Iha).
If you want to check their more "rock" side, definitely check out the first 3 songs from their first album, "Gish" (from 1991)- "I Am One", "Siva", and "Rhinoceros".
Urge Overkill and Wilco are pretty awesome also. Less commercial radio play sadly!
@@Fakeaorta ; plus Material Issue, and the definitely-not-family-friendly Liz Phair and Shellac (not to mention Poster Children and Hum from Champaign).
@@kellypedersen6590 I have a great Liz Phair incident! She was in Seattle several years ago. I was almost in the front row. She was singing one of her songs and looked right at me. I smiled, then she smiled back at me and winked! I was gob smacked!!!
‘Soon’ - My Bloody Valentine
local H, Ministry, Eddie Vedder (Kind of), Tom Morello.
A phenomenal song from a phenomenal band
Absolutely bangin!!
Hey guys! I'm getting uncomfortably close to being 70, so obviously the 60s and 70s are my prime decades for music, but... The 90s had incredible music too! One of my favorite bands were the Gin Blossoms. Bright, up tempo music with jangly guitars! Listen to the song Hey Jealousy, you will love it and them. Peace!
Love the Gin Blossoms! Great suggestion!
being from Arizona, the Gin Blossoms brings back a lot of memories (much like the video - driving around town, skipping a fence to go to hotel pools, house dance parties)
Seems most people get into their fav music during the formative years, up to about 20 years old, really cool you got into the Pumpkins when you were 40 or so
For all of us born in the early 80s who came of age in the 90s, this song is the soundtrack of our high school years. Hard to believe this song was written over 20 years ago. Still love it.
An obsolete gem from one of the best records of the 90's.
That’s so true. I always wanted to be a teenager in the 60s or 80s, but we actually had it pretty good in the 90s. The music was great, and I don’t feel like everyone was so politically divided.
@@danieljohnson2005 91 to 95 was a goldmine of great music. A lot of the music I still listen to everyday is from that time period.
We're getting so oolllldddd. 😭 Why, God?! Why?! 😭😭😭😭😭🤣
I was born in 1977 and was 13 in 1990 so yes this song encompassed my teen/high school years and everytime i hear it , it takes me back to then
Man, can't believe I've been watching you guys for like two years and you're finally getting around to the Pumpkins!! Best live concert I ever saw in 1993-4ish, they opened up for Blind Melon at Appalachian State and changed my life, no exaggerating.
I saw them open for the Roing Stones with Matchbox 20 and Dave Matthew's.
My daughter goes to App State! She’s working on her Masters! I love this band!
Pumpkin and blind melons at app state that sounds crazy man?!
I went to Appalachian State to see a Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds show once - it snowed that night and we got stuck in the mountains 😂
@@poolhall9632 my girlfriend at the time was a student there. The Meat Puppets were also co-openers. Seriously, best show of my life, and I've been to quite a few over the years.
Nice. Blind Melon is criminally underrated. "Soup" is one of my top five albums by anybody.
I love this song. It’s the one song I could never ever get tired of. Check out James Ihas solo stuff as well. As for the pumpkins their whole catalog is amazing. Tonight Tonight should be your next SP song!
Bullet with butterfly wings and Disarm are great songs. Great 90’s band.
this song is pure nostalgia, i was a teenager so this is nostalgic because of my youth, but also, the first time a heard this song i felt nostalgia for a past i wasn't on, that is why i say it is pure. there are a lot of 90s gems yet to be explored.
Pulp "common people"
blur "country house"
jamiroquai "virtual insanity" (the official video)
beck "where it's at"
jeff buckley "this is our last goodbye"
massive attack "unfinished sympathy"
youssou n'dour "7 seconds"
and for female friday 90s edition:
garbage "only happy when it rains"
the cardigans "love fool"
fiona apple "shadowboxer"
tori amos "silent all these years"
morcheeba "tape loop"
YES! Pulp and Blur! Pulp singing 'Common People' live at Glastonbury is a phenomenal video!
Yes, Common People is great
Yes!! Tori Amos is a must!!!
Yes, Beck and Tori Amos!!
Such a nostalgic song, and bitter-sweet, on so many levels. Loved it! Thank you 😊
I was hoping you’d find this band! This song is so good and I hope you check out their song,” Bullet with Butterfly Wings”. It’s more of a rock tune and I bet Amber would like it 😎
Live version
Definitely check out Bullet With Butterfly Wings awesome song
The first song I heard by The Smashing Pumpkins was "Ava Adore" and the video blew my mind. So different than anything I had seen and have seen since.
I would love to see you react to that video. It's so opposite from this one.
Their cd also had lyrics in the jacket which were invaluable 🤣
But there are several other amazing songs by them that had unique videos and styles as well. "Tonight Tonight" for example.
Anyway, great video. I am glad you appreciated them 😊
Omg. One of my favorite albums of all time. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Listen to this from side to side. The whole thing tells a great story. But def one my favorite 90’s albums. This song 1979 wasn’t one of my favorites. Thirty three and a few others will grab you. But definitely get more into this.
I’m so waiting for more Alice In Chains, anything off of Dirt.
Yep - was also going to suggest a full album listen to Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. It's one of those rare albums that is pretty much perfect -- or, as they say, "all killer, no filler".
1979 is a good song, but its a simple, consistent song that was easy to listen to and a huge radio hit. that was its purpose. it doesnt show how complex the band is though......thats achieved by songs like Hummer, Geek USA, Ode to No One, etc. 1979 is ok but certainly not a personal favorite
1979 - no internet, no social media, no cell phones, no video games.
Just radio, TV, music, books, magazines, libraries, movies, loads of live music and landlines. Good times.
We had Pong!
You don’t know what your missing! The 90’s was a great decade for music ! You’ll love ❤️ it ! You need to do more .
Been telling them for months that they need more 90s bands.
The last great decade
October should be an entire Smashing Pumpkins month.
Such a great song. I was 18 in 1979. I can totally relate to this song. Having a band play in my house and all my friends over their partying it up. lol. It was the 70s. We didn't have cell phones. Looking back on it now the 70s were so carefree. Could be because I was viewing it from the eyes of a teen. I lived in Florida during my teen years.
90s songs...What is Love, Torn, Smells like Teen Spirit, Sweet Child of Mine, Believe, I Want it That Way, Livin' La Vida Loca, Glycerine, Just a Girl, Intestate Love Song, One Headlight, for just a few 90s tunes. You've probably reacted to some of these already.
The Smashing Pumpkins is a once in a decade band who breaks the mold. The song Cherub Rock introduced this band to the world in the 90s. I highly recommend Cherub Rock as your next Pumpkins song! It will give you a taste of the powerful rock side of the band. ❤️
This is my very favorite band! I love Billy Corgan and this song was basically the song of my senior year so it has heavy nostalgia for me. “I know you better than you fake it,” best lyric.
This is probably their most well-known song and I like it, but in my opinion they have better ones that are more definitive of their sound. I could suggest so many but I’ll start with “Cherub Rock,” “Rhinoceros,” “Today,” “Disarm,” and “Bullet With Butterfly Wings.” They definitely go harder and while they don’t consider themselves grunge, they were very much grunge-adjacent. Their wall of sound, fuzzy guitars on some of the earlier songs is very grunge imo. And yes, Billy does have a very distinctive voice. Not everyone likes it but tome it sounds like the 90s. I hope you’ll check them out again!
And yes, I definitely tee pee’d back in high school. This whole video looks like being a teen in the 90s 😂 (I could’ve also sworn you guys did this one!)
I've always liked this song. I was in high school in 1979 so the video is a bit relatable, too. Thanks for the reaction.
Great band, great song. Also the songs Cherub rock and Disarm by them are great too.
As a 1970 model what i remember from 1979 is swimming in the Atlantic in May. The flag everywhere(the Bicentennial was 1976) and all the fire hydrants painted red white and blue.
Love the Smashing Pumpkins. Y'all would love "Tonight, Tonight!" It was one of my favorite songs in high school and video is fun too! "Disarm," "Zero," and "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" are also great songs by them.
The 90's music isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I grew up in the 90s so the music hits different for me. I was a total grunge kid...Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Ministry, Nine inch Nails, Bush, Screaming Trees. So many good bands and songs to check out from the 90s.
Keep up the great work you two, much respect from Australia.
Who says 90s music is bad? I hear the opposite a lot actually
@@e46bigbadjon For real! 90s had amazing music.
90s music is ABSOLUTELY the best!!!
Great time to be in my 20s. Loved the 90s!!
From Australia, I’d say we can easily add Silverchair to that list of awesome bands.
Watch Tonight, Tonight and Disarm by the Smashing Pumpkins, they are INCREDIBLE
Smashing Pumpkins had so many great songs. "Bullet With Butterfly Wings", "Disarm", Tonight Tonight" & my favourite "Zero".
The 90s had so many amazing artists you could react to for Female Friday -- PJ Harvey, Bjork, The Breeders, Le Tigre, Babes in Toyland, L7, Luscious Jackson (featuring the Beastie Boys' original drummer Kate Schellenbach), Throwing Muses, Belly, Sleater-Kinney, Portishead.... So much great stuff!
Would start with Sheela Na Gig from PJ Harvey followed by The Breeders Cannonball.
Also, so many for, say, "Male Mondays"--
The Flaming Lips, Ween, Mercury Rev,
They Might Be Giants, Alice In Chains,
Soundgarden, Marilyn Manson. Weird Al,
The Pet Shop Boys. The Dead Milkmen...
I forgot to add these to my comment....great picks!
Omg, you are SOOOO taking me back to college!!! Such awesome music!!!
@@laustcawz2089 Are "Male Mondays" a thing?
Smashing Pumpkins, another great band from my hometown of Chicago, Il. USA
I was a teenager in the 90's. It was the BEST decade for music. You guys should definitely do more.
80s and 90s
90's best decade for music? 😂😂
@@jimschroeder1176 OK you are right.. The 70's was the best decade for music. I suppose I meant in my life time.
@@jeffreydavid6794 fair enough. I actually like a lot of 90's bands, including The Smashing Pumpkins. I do think 90's music was better than the 80's, but nothing compares to the late 60's to mid 70's. During that time artists were free to create whatever music they wanted all under the name "rock". In the late 70's and 80's record labels started labelling bands by the type of music they were supposed to produce, and bands were not really allowed to venture outside that label (ie. Heavy metal, punk, etc..). Music became quite formulated, and songs themselves had to fit airplay time, so rarely went over 5 minutes. You started to see some artistry come back in the 90's, but it still had to be radio friendly lenghts of songs. That's my opinion anyway, because I lived through all those decades, but music is a matter of taste. Good on you for recognizing the 70's though, even though it was before your time. 😉
@@jimschroeder1176 No you are exactly right. I stand corrected and I agree with everything you said. I was just caught up in the moment and I said something stupid. Haha. The majority of my favorite bands come from the 60's and 70's. I've been a serious musician my whole life and I had older siblings so I also grew up listening to and being influenced as a musician by bands like the doors, Pink Floyd, Yes, Steely Dan, the Doobie Brothers, the Beatles, Deep Purple and I could go on and on. As far as musicianship and song writing goes, you just can not compare bands like this with Any bands from the 90's. However the 90's still hold a special place in my heart since I grew when bands like REM, Sound Garden, STP, No Doubt, Radiohead, Weezer, Live, etc. were doing their thing. That was back when we could actually watch music videos on MTV and VH1. And the music then was certainly a lot more "real" than the crap we have today. I have actually never been a huge fan of the Smashing Pumkins. Billy's voice is just too much for me. I do like 1979 though and it brought back memories.
Tonight tonight, Zero, Here is no why, Bullet with Butterfly Wings, To Forgive, Thirty-Three are all great songs. He also does a musical with piano, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.
I think "Tonight, Tonight" would blow you away. But as others have said, the Pumpkins are a unique band with many many different and wonderful sounds. No two albums even sound remotely the same. They are the ultimate rabbit hole of a band. BY FAR my number one favorite band due to their extreme diversity in sound!! MOAR PUMPKINS PLEASE!!!
Love you two. Me, born in '62. My Party was 1979. Lived it . Nice song. Brings a tear to my eye for my friends no longer here.
My kids were all over this group. I remember doing a first aid duty for one of their concerts in Melbourne lol... lots of fainting and kids getting bumps in the mosh pit.
Holy ahit smashing pumpkins are the most creative, hypnotic and voice of the late 90s. Sooooooo many songs
Glad you guys finally discovered this band, still so many more to discover!
You've discovered one of the best 90s rock bands! They were among the early post-grunge alt rock movement. Disarm is my favorite Smashing Pumpkins tune. If you want something heavier, Bullet With Butterfly Wings hits the spot. This song takes me back to my early 20s. Young, carefree, finding my way in the world. Love it!
I'm so glad you finally got to them! Tonight, Tonight should be the next one you check out 😀
PJ Harvey -- Sheela Na Gig. Spin magazine named Sheela Na Gig the 2nd best single of the 90's.
Soy de los 80's y disfruté mucho la música hasta mediados del 90. Me sentía orgullosa que la generación siguiente quisiera hacer también música y cine genial.
They formed in Chicago in 1988. I am from Chicago and saw them perform on the Northside in a theater in 1990 with like only 300 seats.
Love that you both are venturing into the 90s. LISTEN TO GIN BLOSSOMS!!!! Until I Fall Away, and Veruca Salt, Seether, Volcano Girls, Shutterbug...please!!! And ANYTHING by Oasis (yall need to get into some Brit Pop!)
Smashing Pumpkins was my favorite band back in high school! Nice! Listen to Disarm, Ava Adore, Today, 33, Tonight Tonight..
I was born in 1979 and the year I graduated was 1997 and most of the senior class was also born that year we should of had this as our senior song. Love the reaction you two seem to be doing great best wishes to you both!!!
💕1979💕
You're two years younger than me but I this comment could have been written by me. Countless kids wearing Smashing Pumpkins t-shirts in my high school.
This was me and my mom's song. I crank it every mother's day! She introduced me to grunge. My first show was pearl jam with her. I have beem to hundreds and hundreds of shows since. She was my first! And taught me to love music
I'm crying
So excited you’re doing this one! This is my favorite smashing pumpkins song and it really just reminds me of being a teenager at the time. especially the video
The 1990s and the 1960s were the greatest decades for music in the modern era. If you dive into popular and alternative music from the 90s, you will be astonished by the quality and variety of lyricism, voice and instrumentafion compared with now.
Oh great! I'm so glad you guys are listening to these guys finally, I saw the Smashing Pumpkins with Marilyn Manson at Red Rocks Colorado back in 2015, it was a hell of a great show! So much talent so much, and the day was perfect, it had rained all day and right in time for the show the clouds cleared there was an amazing rainbow...the air smelled great it was pretty much a magical night all around, thanks for the memory trip down lane once again guys🤘💕✨😎
Marilyn Manson is an amazing musician. despite the weirdness. I absolutely love his cover of sweet dreams are made of this, I also love his Antichrist Superstar album in its entirety, some really weird but badass music
@@reeferman42078 yes, we went for the Smashing Pumpkins and Marilyn Manson was an added bonus! I had heard his music of course before and loved his '80s covers, to see him perform is something else, amazing. Hard to separate the man from the artist I'll agree, especially since all the weirdness lately, but there's no denying his talent, it was a great show and he did all of his best and most popular stuff for us, Tainted Love Sweet Dreams , personal jesus, it was great stuff✌😎 and the rainbow that appeared seconds before he came after all the Dark Skies had cleared was a little bit ironic I'd say, like someone looking down and winking or something I don't know it was kinda hilarious 🤘🌈
'79/early '80s...No cel phones, vacant lots down every street, parents struggling through economic times, nothing for us to do but spend time running around with friends and finding something to do...this song speaks volumes.
This was my favorite band when I was in my late time. Their music got me through some tough times.😌
60's and 70's is my favorite, but the 90's had some great bands too. Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine and Pearl Jam. Smashing Pumpkins have many other good songs too. This one has more of of mellow vibe. Most of their other stuff is much harder, but great none the less.
Love this song, not only cuz it just sounds so good, but I graduated in 1979. It was really a carefree time. But most of spent our childhoods free and we learned how to handle independence and responsibility. Though some handled it better than others. I'm so thankful there weren't these helicopter parents back then. Enjoyed your reaction!!
Love this song and we just did that in 1979 wow what a year. Done and had football tradtion.
One of the best bands of the 90s and they're still playing. They just announced the 12th album will be 33 tracks long and released in 3 parts between this November and next April.
Looking forward to there new album, seeing them in October, in D.C., also saw them during the reunuin tour in 2018, best concert ive ever seen! Pumpkins forever!!!
"A unique voice but I can't describe it' - Amber always has the most accurate first impressions! That is a good description of Billy Corgan.
1979 by Smashing Pumpkins charted on Billboard charts February 10, 1996 and it peaked at number 12 and it was there biggest hits.
"Stabbing Westward" and "Days of the New" were two of my favorite bands from the 90's.
This not what they usually sound like. This is a unique song - they really didn't do another like it. The Pumpkins are a whole world. Jimmy Chamberlain is an underrated genius of a drummer. Some of the tracks from Pisces Iscariot show his talents best. - Starla is incredible - recorded in Billy Corgan's apartment on Paulina St. In Chicago - you can hear a police siren serendipitously howl just before the final guitar solo starts.
That's what they sound like to me. It's similar to a lot of their top songs.
Perfect (on Adore) is the spiritual successor to 1979 and has a similar sound. However, you're right that it's not a typical Pumpkins song, if there is such a thing.
Actually, Perfect is very similar and sounds like it could have been a revisit to 1979.
I always thought they were companion songs.
Omg, Jimmy Chamberlin is EVERYTHING!!! When I was pregnant with my 3rd child, I was going out to meet up with some friends. I was taking the L, and what would usually be a super easy from the L stop to the venue (Beat Kitchen) seemed REALLY long, as it was a hot summer night, and being pregnant is like having your own personal furnace 🤣🥵. So as I was passing by Chicago Music Exchange, I could see that they were having an event, and all the doors and windows were open, and the A/C was blowing out. So I decided to stop in to cool down abd take a break before I continued on. Well, as I stepped in and tried to find a place to hang among the crowd, I realized that the event I had stumbled into was JIMMY FREAKING CHAMBERLIN!!! He was drumming live in store to Pumkins tracks and telling stories about how the songs came about, and stories about the road, and I was absolutely starstruck!!! After I'd cooled down and had enough energy to continue on to Beat Kitchen, I was still in a daze, not believe my luck! When I got there, I was telling my friends (some who had come in from around the country, some who were about to go onstage, and some who had just gotten off stage and let me take a load off and hang with them in merch) "you'll never BELIEVE where I just came from!!!" 🤩
@@mamatay7 amazing story - reminds me of how incredible Chicago is and how important the L is so important to the culture and the city - going to the beat kitchen - probably you were on the brown line? Best view of the transforming city as you pass along that in my opinion. - especially as you go along Paulina and it rides very high up to pass over the Ravenswood metra commuter rail tracks. Jimmy is amazing - if you can find it (you probably can) listen to his jazz album. It is GOOD - not self indulgent AT ALL - this jazz album is what convinced me that (I’ll just say it) Jimmy is a better drummer than ginger baker! Come at me internet.
This is the ultimate nostalgia for 90s kids. This one will never get old.
We played the song Zero by them, it was fun to play. Smashing Pumpkins are unique, nobody really sounds like them. Almost every song is really good, and they all sound different, most more upbeat then this. Kind of I guess, they are a hard band to explain. This is the genres they belong to: Alternative rock, Hard rock, Shoegaze, Gothic rock, Psychedelic rock, Alternative/Indie
1979 is my very favorite Smashing Pumpkins song. Tonight Tonight is my second. This whole album is awesome.
You guys really need to explore this band, they are something special. "Tonight Tonight" and "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" are my favs....
Other suggestions: Garbage, The Killers and Florence and the Machine.
My favorite recording of the 90s. BY FAR.
Need more Smashing Pumpkins. Good stuff.
The rest of the band members make appearances as characters. Bassist D'arcy is the annoyed neighbor. Guitarist James is the convenience store clerk. Drummer Jimmy is one of the cops.
You've gotta try Kings of Leon - Taper Jean girl. TRUST ME! You will NOT be disappointed. They've done so many good songs. Molly's chambers. The bucket. On call. I could go on! They're an amazing band, if you've not done any reaction to them yet.
Go back to the beginning … The Album ‘Gish’ (1991) hard bass and thrusting guitars with pulsing drums. Listen to the song “Siva” and “I Am One”. 🎃
One of my all time favs. This song always puts me in a nostalgic trance. Its the sonic equivalent of looking off into the horizon during the sunset to me. If you want all the lyrics obviously you can google them, but here's the chorus if it helps:
That we don't even care
To shake these zipper blues
And we don't know
Just where our bones will rest
To dust I guess
Forgotten and absorbed

You guys would LOVE the vibe of a 90s one hit wonder called “You Get What You Give” by New Radicals. The ultimate feel good teenage freedom song with a positive message.
Smashing Pumpkins! I Love Them SO MUCH! Billy Corgan's voice! They have a great, very unique sound. Yes, the 90s in my opinion was the last decade of great Rock n Roll. That was it. So called "Grunge" era. KICKS ASS! Great Great bands from that time: Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Sound Garden. Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Foo Fighters. These bands are the arc and the end of Rock n Roll. Not that Rock n Roll doesn't live on and great music still happens. "Rock is Dead. Long LIve Rock." The Who. PS Smashing Pumpkins - Billy Corgan recorded a song with Mick Jagger interweaving vocals with Billy Corgan - Rat In A Cage. Great Song. Mick Jagger and Billy Corgan sing on the same key? I don't know. They have a symbiotic sound quality to their voices. Really Beautiful meld in that song. I think you would dig it.
I saw them a few times way back when they were still playing local clubs in Chicago
The 90s had some talented groups!! Including collective soul 😁😁
COLLECTIVE SOUL!!!❤️
Pumpkins are great. Lots of great hits off Siamese Dream. Check out Cherub Rock Today and Disarm. Their double album Bullet with Butterfly wings is also great, check Tonight Tonight and the title track off that one.
Any time anyone reacts to the Pumpkins, I have to recommend "Mayonnaise". It's off their break-through "Siamese Dream" album, and was never a single, but it is one of my favorite songs of all time!
"Cherub Rock" is a banger and "Today" is a must. But this song really pulls at my nostalgia. Love the vibe of it.
A great 90s band. You should try 'today' or ' disarm'. Or for heavier pumpkins try 'zero' or ' bullet with butterfly wings'
Love you Amber! The music played the band...
The kids they dance and shake their bones...
The next Smashing Pumpkins you do I would love it if you played my favorite by Smashing Pumpkins "Today"
didn't see it mentioned in the comments I scrolled by, so I'll point out, this song has a 'sequel', a few years later they did a song titled 'Perfect'. They got most of the original actors back as well.
This was a great reaction. Very on point. I was 12 in 1979. It was a very carefree time, and also into the 80's. And I still felt like a kid when this song came out. The 90's had a very 1970's feel to it, if that makes sense. 90's suggestion: Cumbersome. By Seven Mary Three. Please and Thank You.
I always felt the same way. The 90's had that 70's feel to me! Right up until the internet. Then not so much.
Also "Supernova" by Liz Phair and "My Sister" by Julianna Hatfield(more 90s female artists)
Great song, always has me thinking about the carefree, fun times in my youth! Try 'Bullet With Butterfly Wings", it's an awesome one.
Toad the Wet Sprocket is another great '90s band that deserves a listen. Check out Walk on the Ocean, Fall Down, Something's Always Wrong and All I Want. They're still making great music today, but were most popular '90 - '95.
Love this band. Haven't heard this in YEARS!
Reminds me of My Chemical Romance which is a band you should look into.
Lindsey Stirling - Crystalize
Everyone has that one song that when they hear it, they're instantly transported back in time when they heard it. For me, this is that song. Whenever I hear 1979, I'm instantly transported to the back of my parents car, when I was 4 years old, cruising down the Las Vegas strip at night, seeing all the lights out the window. Fantastic memories growing up in Vegas!
Check out “Bullet with Butterly Wings” from the same album. Amber, can ton ass Blue October to the list, y’all would like them, start with “Hate Me”
Jay n Amber in 1975 A Jazz band called Brick released a very FUNKY AND GROVY Song called DAZZ . I know you will thank me big time , Take care Rob Squad .
1 of my favorite bands singing a song about the year I was born. Love it!!!
My dad had a ‘72 Charger similar to the car in the video. It had a 400 under the hood and was a true muscle car. In 1979 I was 14 and the music was changing with the decade’s end. PC’s were on the horizon, along with CD’s, Walkman’s, New Wave and 80’s music. It is remarkable how much the world changed from 1979 to 1983 when I graduated HS. Meh, not a fan of 90’s music. It just felt like everyone forgot how to smile or something. We lost something that has never returned. Sigh.
Senior of 1979 here! Where I grew up we called it 'wrapping a house'. I took part in many such exploits and also had my house wrapped a few times! Good times!!!! 😎
I love this song. It reminds me of the days when my daughter was about to graduate from High School. This was one of her favorite songs and bands. Happy memories.
Frickin awesome guys, I couldn't believe it when I seen it, no one ever reactions to this song or band alot, their so pure 90s great sound, 😀 peace and bless u guys✌️🕶
man...1997/98 my senior yr....i literally lived this song....i was a cheerleader...we got ahold of the oposing hoco teams addresses and we TP'd their houses...lmao....we also hold the title for most unique senior prank....picture a quad (4) herd of cattle roaming the halls of school while the doors were all cover on the outside with bales of hay....my graduating class was 115 peeps...the town where most of the population was in the state pen! lmao ...for real, the chain gangs kept the state park clean and freah every yr! #AnamosaIowa #smalltownshenanigans 🤣🤣🤣❤️
Never TP'd anyone's house but we did things like fill a friend's room floor-to-ceiling with balloons while he and his fam were out of town (and, beneath the balloons, hid lunchmeat in his bed), completely covered people's houses with construction paper polka-dots, etc. Same idea as TP-ing but more about fun and creativity than vandalism. We were art and theater kids so, y'know, had to put a twist on it. 😄
So glad you’re checking out Smashing Pumpkins!
Smashing pumpkins- Today, Disarm, Zero, Bullet with Butterfly Wings, Eye, Drown
smashing pumpkins have many great songs.
YAAAAAS!! You guys finally got around to the Smashing Pumpkins! One of my favourite bands from the 90's! I could write a whole essay on 90's suggestions, but for now, I'm gonna stick with Smashing Pumpkins suggestions. Start with "Bullet With Butterfly Wings", "Tonight, Tonight", "Rocket", "Cherub Rock", "The End Is The Beginning Is The End" (from the Batman & Robin soundtrack), "Rhinoceros", "Today", and "Slunk". Trust me, you're gonna have so much fun going down this rabbit hole!
