    wow I can't express how happy I am to have clicked on your video. I was having a fit of jealousy and can't stand the feeling, I have acquired it over a certain person in my life for a year or two now. I felt like the unspoken competitiveness was very relatable (real and imagined). It feels like a weight on my heart and it's time to let it go. I've dabbled in meditation and read books on mindfulness, but it's a difficult thing to shake. After the exercise I felt light again. I took notice on how fortunate I am (and take a lot for granted) and how happy this other person would be if they obtained what I do. Therefor making me feel glad for their recent achievement. It also helped me realize that I can obtain what they have, for myself in my own life. Thank you again, I really needed this and will watch it religiously.

    I could not agree more when you said everything we have now which is not giving us full contentment is something that at one point in the past we told ourselves: "that's all I want to be happy".

    Thanks for this video. I am presently struggling to get a job. My best mate has just secured a second job working 2 days a week. His first job was working 3 days a week. We have very similar skills and job roles. I was feeling really envious today, but he is my best mate and I have been struggling with being envious of my best mate. I did the exercise you talked us through and it really helped me to focus on what I have and not on what other people have. I have a beautiful wife and she keeps telling me how privileged, blessed, healthful I am but sometimes I just don't see it. My best mate has secured 2 jobs and I am sure I will get a job soon. Thanks for a wonderful video.

    this is so true. My whole life I was envious of all the popular kids in High School because I was an introvert. I ended up having a great job that allows me 4 months off a year to live in Asia part time. In Asia i get all the attention I couldnt dream of as a teenager. Yet, im still not happy because of my high school experience. Just goes to show that accomplishments only bring temporary peace and happiness. Long term peace/happiness comes from inner balance

    I like the idea of this exercise but it won't work for everyone. Not everyone has close family and friends, a good job, nice possessions, etc. It might just make them feel worse as they realise most people probably have a lot more to be grateful for.

    I really wish things like this worked, I can't think of anything I have that they don't t write down here. I hate most of my family and the ones I don't hate I don't think I have any love for. I have two friends in the world and one of them is a person I'm extremely jealous of, so I can't write them down either. I feel even worse now that I see how pointless and destructive my existence is. Hopefully most of the people trying this method actually have something to live for, good luck everyone.

    in the Zen text, The Book of Equanimity, we read, "When sounds and colors are not let go of, this is conditioned by one's environment." So, we negate from jealousy, for instance, when we are not enthusiastic for family, friends, etc... who acquire something we ourselves may covet. We would all do well, to heed and bypass, such judgments. When they arise, we push down! In Zen literature it is paramount that when we give up our small attachments, we receive the boundless life.

    I have always been a really envious/jealous person, I think i will always struggle a little with it. I don't really know why.
    I hate the feeling, it makes me feel so terrible about myself and it usually brings back past emotions like jealously.
    When you said that once you had finished this exercise you noticed all the jealousy lift off your shoulders, i thought to myself that it would never work with me because i find it so hard to move my thoughts.
    I just finished the exercise and I can't believe how much better i feel! It's incredible!

    I think your exercise is awesome ^_^! I have meditated and affirmed such a progression, before, but never put pen to paper. I think this exercise is perfect for people learning the art of mindfulness and its practicality toward alleviating an aspect of their self-induced suffering. I learned and acquired some insight right now, Namaste...

    Hi Minda. I am so appreciative of your videos! I am inspired by your teachings, and I am so glad to have discovered your channel. I am especially glad that you did this particular video, because I have long been conflicted about the value of gratitude exercises. On one hand, I see the potential value of recognizing the many things we have in our lives. It can make us feel good in the moment. But on the other hand, doesn't the practice of accentuating these positive things result in our using external events as a source of happiness (which I thought is what we are trying to move away from)? For example, if I remind myself of my wonderful job, or my nice home, then aren't I trying to make these external objects/events the source of my happiness? Thank you for your insights!

    I really need help, please read:
    I have a GF, she's the same age than me, but she always had it all, she has already lived in LA, she's been in germany, Austria, Italy, She has my dream life, she also makes fun of people who has less money than her. She never had a job, she never made a penny by herself.
    I've never been on a plane, I've never been out of México, I've had a lot of jobs, I save money to invest. I'm COMPLETELY sure that I'll accomplish my dreams to travel around the world, but I just kinda hate her now, to having all these opportunitties and doing nothing to get them or appreciate them.
    What should I do about her? I think it has became into a competition... I don't know what to do.

    Hi, and thank you for making this video. I was almost never jealous or envyous and it's been around a week and I've started feeling such feelings towards a friend of mine. I feel like I want to cut ties with this friend because talking to them brings me such unhappiness that it's poisoning my mind. I can't stop thinking about them, and I know it wouldn t be fair to cut ties with them because of a feeling I'm having but at the same time I feel like they're also doing it on purpose, trying to make me feel this way, but that could also be in my head and not a real thing. I care about this friend and it isn t fair and might bring them suffering if I cut ties but at the same time having them in my life isn't a positive thing anymore. What do you think I should do? Thank you and have a nice day 🤗

    Dear Mindah,
    Thank you for this video, it really helped put some perspective on such a dark emotion.
    I would like to ask about how to deal with disappointment in self and sadness. I find these types of emotions to be difficult to process through the buddhist mindset and somehow disturbs me when I try to meditate. Instead I tend to push it aside and leave it for later as the emotions dissipate.
    Thank you always ^___^

    Watching this video gives me a better understanding between those 2 emotions even though it's hard to ignore those 2 emotions' 'for example" I am jealous and envious towards any guy with girlfriends who mainly are very similar to my dream girlfriend that i want to have which i do have very good taste in women and when i see guys who are very lucky and fortunate enough to have girlfriends who are very similar to my type'' it makes me feel angry deep down inside and i feel it's so unfair. Keep up the good work.

    I envy good health. I resent my short end of the stick about my genetics. I hate that I have to try harder than other people to be happy, to achieve my goals. I have often thought of punishing people for being happier than me and I silence myself to avoid pity, which would infuriate me. Unfortunately I have festered in this emotion too long and I don't see myself maturing past this. I genuinely wish for destruction on a global scale. But I don't want to hurt the planet, only humans.

    How to overcome an envious and stalking Green-Eyed Monster who tries to destroy my life for reasons of jealousy? I wish she would forget me, but her boyfriend (who had a relationship with me) continually reminds her of my existence? I understand she is not purposefully jealous/envious and I have already forgiven her, I don't hate her nor wish her anything bad, but how can I get her stupid boyfriend to stop mentioning me? It almost seems that she subconsciously choose a man who can't forget me.

    what if the subject of envy is sth intangible...like more intelligence..more ability to learn...the desire to have sth or do sth?
    Ok wht if it is a better social life...good friends...good parents...better education?

    • @beatrizkarwai6763
      @beatrizkarwai6763 7 лет назад

      When we're desiring to have more intelligence, we're missing the point, which is to cultivate our dedication in our endeavours. Eventually we can make our minds sharper, if we're determined. Intelligence and learning ability is related to our concentration, which can be trained by meditation practice. Actually intelligence can be a problem, if it's in excess, as the person thinks too much and it can make them have trouble sleeping, taking care of their health, and even remembering to eat. A person who puts intellectual activities as their only priority may not care about what they wear to the point they forget to bring a blouse when it's cold weather, and thus becoming sick. And not caring about their appearance, they may not bath regularly, and not feel satisfaction about their body, becoming easily disconnected. They may also develop mental diseases like depression, anxiety, OCD, and even schizophrenia. So an intangible thing like intelligence can be a big problem.

    • @pamstroons6475
      @pamstroons6475 7 лет назад +1

      The body is temporary and transport for the mind and spirit. Also I think what kind of person you are is a much more attractive quality than outward appearance. After all, a symmetrically cute faced boy with a horrible unkind personality is very unattractive. Ramzeh X, you should focus on how you feel about yourself rather than what others think. A person who truly loves and respects themselves and wants to improve, is a person who will find lastly love and happiness. P.S. curly hair is great!!
