That's a good example of a powerful woman. One that can look cold and distant to reach the level of high fashion and eloquent enough to inspire with simple words a positive message.
Viral Videos don’t mistake gay-awe with the true unmotivation she’s splurging out. This woman is so engulfed with media, that she’s a mere shadow of what she used to be, and that’s SAD!
I keep seeing "cold" used to describe Anna, but I have yet to see one interview, one documentary, one speech, one Q & A where she seems cold. She doesn't seem to me to be any of the commonly used negative terms put upon her. I just think people still don't know how to well describe a successful career woman and leader. I also think the American audience completely misunderstands her British and cultured poise and humor. What an American might call cold and perhaps bitchy, I chuckle and say how wry and clever! Anna knows how to move forward and that is a difficult concept for many of us, especially Americans, who spend so much time in the past.
That is what a powerful woman looks to you, original poster.(eventhough this was 7 years ago😉) Most people tgat reach the top aren't particularly cold or distant. What they all have in common is drive, discipline and talent. As person, I do not find Wintour and inspirational leader. According to her close colleagues: she is not a people person because she is simply 'inept' at being personable. She's a marketer and publicist, first. She leaves the 'humanity' part to her subordinates who are much better at being human. I find it endearing in a way. But not a good example of a good leader.
She is not the most likable person at first but after watching some interviews with her and listening to her speech, I'm convinced her bitchy persona is just a disguise or a way to survive in the tough fashion world ... I think she is very intelligent and really,on who cares about how good of a public speaker she is when the message she delivered was clear and on point!
She has no persona she puts on. Anna is not personable or social. The 'bitchy' persona is a media invention based on Lauren Weisbergers book and the Devil wears Prada movie. It's not real nor is it there; it's imagined. And you fell for it thinking you had it figured out.
Great address! I got a bit distracted when the camera was panned out. The gentleman sitting to the left of Anna in green clothing was really lucky to have heard a great leaders from the fashion industry live. Yet, he was on his phone through this and till the end of Q&A session (in another video).
What a gracious and humble woman considering her position . We need more woman in charge like Anna, she is decisive yet very open minded to new things. Which is a rare trait. Most decision makers seem to be stuck in their way but she seems to convey how important it is to move with the times. Her advice to young people is on point. Do no let living through social meia become a substitute for life. In fact people should treat their cell phones like our bathroom time. Discreet and only when necessary. Obviously that loser on his cell phone when this fantastic woman gave a heartfelt speech should be expelled in my opinion. Or at least asked to leave the room.
you can hear just a slight nerve in her speaking to the audience and it's very endearing to hear from such a successful editor. she's a very special woman. skinny legend. icon.
Jenni Case That guy irritated the pants off of me. Why is he there if he's going to be absorbed in that device? Ironically, that's exactly what Anna commented on at 9:24 and the guy didn't even hear it.
+Jenni Case incredibly disrespectful and annoying, he should have just gone someplace else. he is in the preseence of one of the true legends of our time, a titan of the industry and yet he is so daft as to take no interest in a rather great address, he simply does not deserve to be there.
In my own opinion, by leaps and bounds this one is better than speeches that were well “engineered” like the one delivered by Mark Zukerburg at Harvard. Anna talked about quite a new view of life and world but delivered her idea in a very down to earth way. I was inspired by her ideas, not by how well she prepared the speech with some many eye contacts and hand gestures that was taught by some professional beforehand. Nowadays philanthropy is an unavoidable topic in commencement speech; while it was an amazing fact, it is hardly to not think the speaker mentioned that just because they know that’s what people want to hear.
It's amazing to see how shy she actually is, her voice is shaking while she gives the address. I'm giving a presentation on HER CAREER in a few days, and to see my MUCH more highly accomplished subject being just as nervous gives me some comfort.
She sounded nervous and if she were, why? She would be good at public speaking or just being surrounded by people by now. Inspiring content and she's has a great humor
Wiz Enz Public speaking isn't something she enjoys. Face to face she is brilliant. She is also emotional about her family. Also, surprisingly, she is a very private person.
She's a remarkably human and approachable person with such a fountain of diverse and important experiences in aesthetics, business and life. Great to see that the terrible stereotypes of her don't seem at all to apply.
"Nice to see" she's not a robot and the "iron lady" image is created by the media, bc she's someone who is really into her work and often people like that are described as cold, mean people
According to her 'friends', she is socially awkward. Doesn't understand the concept of 'maintaining' relationships unless they are very intimate and when people get personal; she gets awkward or even shy. Her 'friends' say it themselves: we are good friends with Anna but ...Anna is good friends with Anna.
This is much better than her #MasterClass...there is truly substance in this presentation...details, real examples. It means something to take the time to watch/listen to this. Brava!
she's very level headed and inspiring, she might have a dubious streak about her, but it's probably part of the persona she wishes to project, she does seem to have a soft core, somewhere hidden inside, like a pulp of sorts
You ONLY HAVE ONE RULE TO FOLLOW AND 2 THINGS YOU NEED 2 KNOW! I WILL LET SOME THINGS SLIP BECAUSE I AM AWARE THAT IS THE NATURE OF YOUR BUSINESS! NEXT, NOW THAT I AM COMMITTED TO THIS FRIENDSHIP OR BOND AS LIKE 2 IT! YOU ARE ALWAYS ON MY TEAM NO MATTER THE DEPTH OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES! FINALLY, I AM AN ABSOLUTE SUCKER FOR KINDNESSES! MY BIRTHDAY IS MAY 15, 1977!
Its time for cruelty free fashion as well. Stop wearing fur and promote sustainability and veganism. She really has passed her expiration date. Fashion needs a reckoning starting from fast fashion.
How does she stick all that hair in her face? She seems pretty nervous. She also obviously comes from a very rich backgound, so even though she left school at 16 she still had the connections to get into elite positions, Her father was political editor of a major newspaper. Her son had the privilege of having parents who could afford to send him to Oxford for 4 years and then pay for him to do 7+ years of medicine when he changed his mind. These people do not realise how hard it is for people who have to pay their own way, and make their own way. We don't have nepotism and a trust fund to rely on.
Look... Not everything's about money. If you REALLY want to achieve your goals you need to study (public or private, it really doesn't matter anymore), work hard and start from the bottom, meet people, fail, and do that all over again until you finally make it to the top.
Perla La. None of that is any good to you if you want to be a doctor and go to Oxford or Harvard - you need money. There is no point in pretending that having rich parents doesn't make your life a whole lot easier. You have that permanent safety net so that if things go wrong - like if you get sick - or if you hate your really expensive course at Oxford, or if you simply want to open your own business and need the $$ - you can be assured that mummy and daddy will be there. People making their own way in life do not have that luxury - they have to go up to their neck in debt (if they are even granted a loan) , be blessed by a scholarship (and lets face it - how many of those are given out v the people who need it) and by God do they have to make their degree work for them because there is no option b that's reality - so no, i din't have a lot of time for rich kids who don't recognize their privilege
She is cute. Though she knowingly threatened me when I told her about a fraud that she alone could have saved many people from from losing their shirts. Thank you Anna- you’re such a nice lil thing
She's not much of a public speaker. I've seen her give speeches at other events, and for the most part she's always just reading from her paper aside from briefly looking up occasionally. Also, I think she's always had a complex abt being the only non-academically inclined member of her family (dropping out of high school, working in an industry that academics often dismiss as frivolous). So, she probably found it intimidating to be making a speech in front of a bunch of academics at Oxford of all places. At least when she's speaking to her peers in the fashion industry, she knows she commands their respect and has the experience to back-up what she says.
Clipped headline comment. We're over those and have been for around a hundred years. You do, however, have a great future in Fleet Street. You'll find it without an A-Z; your ilk always does.

"Social media is great but don't let it become a substitute for living"
Very VERY well said! people should come out from behind their screens
hypergenius she's no wrong it's true
hypergenius Anti social media more like
what she said is still relevant today
"Be intellectually free" great point, great advice, simply put.
That's a good example of a powerful woman. One that can look cold and distant to reach the level of high fashion and eloquent enough to inspire with simple words a positive message.

Well said!! THANK YOU Anna Wintour for taking the time to tell us your thoughts!!!
It's incredible how hairstyle can communicate personality.
She is a wise woman.. And really sweet as well. I think she is very sensitive behind that image of hers :)
what a great speech!! its nice to see and know she's a normal person just like the others. very intelligence lady! her nervousness is actually cute.
She's not normal at all!
"it's so important to understand the digital world in order to be a part of it"
This woman never ceases to amaze me
I love her honesty about university and how it can change our life ❤️

you can hear just a slight nerve in her speaking to the audience and it's very endearing to hear from such a successful editor. she's a very special woman. skinny legend. icon.
Don’t let social media be the way to live! She said it.
Thanks for this fruitful speech, very motivating (Y)
kid in the back on his phone while she is speaking.....disrespectful unless he is reporting on the event
Jenni Case
absolutely !! so irritating !!
and even if he's reporting he should've taken a different less noticeable seat !!
Jenni Case That guy irritated the pants off of me. Why is he there if he's going to be absorbed in that device? Ironically, that's exactly what Anna commented on at 9:24 and the guy didn't even hear it.
He should be ashamed of himself.
Jenni Case I thought I was the only one noticed until I see the comment section. He was so rude.
+Jenni Case incredibly disrespectful and annoying, he should have just gone someplace else. he is in the preseence of one of the true legends of our time, a titan of the industry and yet he is so daft as to take no interest in a rather great address, he simply does not deserve to be there.
Worth a watch! Very insightful.
Got me interested in getting to know Christopher Bailey (Chief Creative & CEO of Burberry) a little bit more.
Amazing speech, So much learning and Insight! Thanks for sharing over the Internet that people could see and Inspire across the globe :)

She's just brilliant, just the way she is!
Was she tearing up when she said "next year, Luke will be joining you"?
On another note, I love this video.
2020. And this speech is motivating me. Thanks Anna
very inspiring speech!! Love Anna...

The way she gave the speech is like an aunt having a heartfelt conversation with her nephews and nieces, while being sophisticated and cultured.
A great talk!
She is nervous. Nice to see.
+Hans Franz Probably tired because she was flying fro Italy the day before.
"Nice to see" she's not a robot and the "iron lady" image is created by the media, bc she's someone who is really into her work and often people like that are described as cold, mean people

Great speech and look.
One of the most important persons of our lifetime! (and i love that leather jacket)
100% Anna 🙏🏻 Proud of you 🌸🏆
Bravo !
very inspiring talk
This is much better than her #MasterClass...there is truly substance in this presentation...details, real examples. It means something to take the time to watch/listen to this. Brava!
Say what you will but Anna has kept her kingdom nailed down for decades!
Dear God , I Love this woman. I want to work for Vogue but i am in Canada.
She looks SO nervious!
The guy on his phone is an example of how tuned out we we can be to the outside world. You’re at a special event and this is all you care about.
I think he's the one in charge of live tweeting the event...
Waah waah
Inspiration...nelieving in only her own abilities and intellect to make it this far...pure genius
she's very level headed and inspiring, she might have a dubious streak about her, but it's probably part of the persona she wishes to project, she does seem to have a soft core, somewhere hidden inside, like a pulp of sorts
superb speech
Ela é simplesmente maravilhosa, admiro tanto, linda, inteligente, tudo nela é encantador. ❤
where can I get this speech to read it?
At 12:59 I can feel your heart Anna Wintour
Think that’s the only time I have seen Miss Wintour slightly nervous in the beginning of her talk.
I love her
Role-Model!
💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Ladies and gentlemen i do believe Anna Wintour has an eyelash about to fall off.....
I love Anna Wintour but she seems uncharacteristically nervous here and I'm not sure why.
Her best lesson is how she dresses.Impeccable.
She seemed so nervous!!
Did Luke just get discount lol
WELCOME TO MY HOME 🏠; I DO HOPE YOUR STAY IS A PLEASANT ONE! ❤️🩹 SAID GOOD SPEECH!
DRC 👑
someone who can help me, cauz i dnot know where can find her speech content
Goodness gracious, could it be that Anna Wintour is in actual fact an introvert?
If you hear the text, it makes sense....if you SEE her say it....she seems uninterested. But, some great quotes in the speech.

Omg. YES!
Was it nervousness or anxiety? Either way, I was not impressed by her delivery. Albeit, she made some good points here and there.
Oh piss off, she was very genuine and sincere. Not that she cares about your opinion anyway 😂
She sounds so nervous. It’s cute.
What is best medecin for aging, wearing ?
There's no medicine for aging, because aging and death are natural processes.
Its time for cruelty free fashion as well. Stop wearing fur and promote sustainability and veganism. She really has passed her expiration date. Fashion needs a reckoning starting from fast fashion.
The old lady is beautiful, what is a fashion for her ?
Your manners aren't any better than your spelling. Go live in the mountains where you won't be around people to insult!
She looks very nice and groomed indeed :)

***** Money usually goes alongside money and connections
+IpodMute plenty of people go to Harvard and don't pay, look up Dr. Q and do something besides whine
hwy9nightkid Keep changing the subject, her son was born privileged with parents who can fund his hopes and dreams. Oh life is soooo hard for him!
Who’s that person on their phone? Really?
she seems incredibly nervous
Ice cream : I am so sorry ! I will send you letter within a couple of days . 😊
Mama ann
Can come take up me to your house any time .
📚
She is cute. Though she knowingly threatened me when I told her about a fraud that she alone could have saved many people from from losing their shirts. Thank you Anna- you’re such a nice lil thing
Meow!
She looks like a DC Villain!
Ana Wintour supports Ye / Kanye by keeping up Ye/ Kanye’s videos.
You must be self -sufficient , you need to know how to do a little bit of everything, - there is no better advice I have heard in fashion yet.
Yo, what is blue shirt kid doing on the right?
That kid..so disrespectful. He missed a good opportunity to learn something relevant.
She seems a mess, very nervous, her voice is quavering.
+bryantppierce She works in the upper echelons of a flaky and elitist industry. It's a unique position to be in.
+Jesse Lee Ward So do I, and I'm not a quivering mess in front of an audience, she's quite forceful in person I don't know what happened here...
where do you work?
She's not much of a public speaker. I've seen her give speeches at other events, and for the most part she's always just reading from her paper aside from briefly looking up occasionally. Also, I think she's always had a complex abt being the only non-academically inclined member of her family (dropping out of high school, working in an industry that academics often dismiss as frivolous). So, she probably found it intimidating to be making a speech in front of a bunch of academics at Oxford of all places. At least when she's speaking to her peers in the fashion industry, she knows she commands their respect and has the experience to back-up what she says.
That’s how she makes people confused about her.
She's an absolute troll
The cult around this woman is one of the more depressing aspects of contemporary popular culture. Get a massage. Drink some wine.
Clipped headline comment. We're over those and have been for around a hundred years. You do, however, have a great future in Fleet Street. You'll find it without an A-Z; your ilk always does.
HAK I wonder why you say that. She runs a multi million dollar business, encourages people to make the most of themselves, has helped young designers to develop and helped raise millions for charity.
I love Anna the character, but it's a fact by hearing what she prepared: she's not that intelligent.
Alberto Dote what accent does she have ?
***** it's not about her accent. I just mentioned that she's not a good speaker. Her speech didn't had eloquence.
Alberto Dote What qualifies you to conclude so? It can't be your ability to use the correct form of the verb "to have".
Alberto Dote I think she reasoned her points quite effectively, in fact she wanted them to understand the choices she and her team are making for the magazine and condé nast while also inspiring them to not fossilise on one aspect of their education, providing examples from her own life and from the media young people now are in a very tight relationship with: she was asked to bring something for the students and I personally think that there's not a limit to how many times you can say to someone our age that what we may perceive as failures (such as having a goal, trying to reach it and then changing your mind, or focusing on many things at once for quite some time before discovering our "path") can actually turn out to be what really makes us stand out in the long run, and also being open and promote communication (which I personally reckon as a GREAT advice)
Alberto Dote
oh you surely must be one of those 'over specialized' ..and expect her to be one too.
unfortunately you are one of those who will never know the difference between 'the over specialized' and 'the intelligent'
what dead animal is she wearing on her shoulders?
+IpodMute It was a kind of sheep I think. What kind of leather do you have on your shoes, wallet and bummer jacket? I am in Europe and women will walk in there fur coat as soon as it is cooler. No one makes any comment (except me because I was so surprise) I am very sad that America think that they are so good. If you eat meat you can't cry at what other people are wearing because an animal has been killed for you also.
Sylvie Vicenza im vegetarian you fuckwit
and your shoes are made in plastic I would think. Petroleum user are not better. lol
Your language does show your level of intelligence my dear (oups an animal lol)
Sylvie Vicenza its OF plastic and it's deer and oops you dumbass hahaaha
+IpodMute shouldn't you be vegan if you're going to be such a communist about it?
She couldn't take off her coat before the speech?
Boring at 3:12. I can’t take anymore of what she’s saying. She’s confused
Poor you!
"Hello, I'm Anna, a superficial wannabe who is only interested in superficial stuff, I think fashion drives the world, I know nothing about Africa's sufferings, the poverty in the world and the sick children. My only concerns today were : How am I gonna look, is my haïr OK, what should I wear ? "
mec7up Do you type something similar to QAs of Elon Musk?
So now poverty around the world is automatically her fault? Instead of worrying about her, invest in yourself.
Yawn...!!!😴
