I liked #1 the best then the 10k gold flutes.
only thing about those flutes is that there kind of dull,
the manufacturers try to sell the gold flutes as having a dark centered sound, but in reality the more gold you put on it the more you muffle the sound.

I have one like #7. Lovely all of them, but you soound better on your flute. It produces more of a big warm sound than the gold, and silver ones.

Seems to me that in this demo all that was acomplished was the mechanical merits of each particular model. Which realizing that all of these instruments are hand made high-end models, they should all be playing on a quite perfect mechenism. If one wanted to compair the tonal and accoustical qualities of an instrument of different materials, I would recomend demonstrating long tones in each of the registers in various dynamics and shadings. I'm not sure, has this been done before?

aiki9876: I am so glad you found this helpful. Are you buying a new flute? If so, what are you getting?

I'm using a Burkart 19.5K serial number 431, and I do find it sings better than 14k flutes, with a little more oomp to the sound. great playing Nina!

I guess one can say that when all is said and done a flute still sounds most like the flute player.

hmm, based on the first 4 flutes i listened to i really like the 4th one =] i like flute that has a warmer sound and less crisp.
i only play on a yfl-674, but it does me the job
(to be really honest, i wouldn't mind trading mine for any of the above xD)

    Hi,
    I have a Yamaha Student flute 285sii.
I got this flute in the 6th grade and I played it for about 3 years, stopped for the following 3 years and I have picked it back up; however now I find that my flute no longer provides the challenge and nice sound that I remember.
I am having a hard time deciding which flute to buy now, what brand etc, I have only ever used Yamaha so I dont even know where to start.
I would like an intermediate at the very least :)
    Please give me some pointers.

You're a great flute player but I hate it when talented people like you upload low resolution videos.
ESPECIALLY when you're testing instruments and the audio needs to be good.
Anyway, it was a pleasure to at least watch you.

Any schmuck who has studied flute acoustics can tell you internal geometry is what is hugely significant,Not material.Science has been done on this matter, only people don't want to believe it.
I own a Burkart flute and love it,but the best flute I ever played was a 19K Hammig. hehe.Nice playing!

wow #7 is way out of tune and sounds fuzzy. Best sound hat #3; it had the best mixture of brightness and depth.
