There is alot of good stuff out there, last band I stumbled on is Khruangbin, from Houston, drummer is like a human metronome and the guitarist is into weird lesser known Asian and African guitar styles, the bass locks on tight. The drummer went to Beyonce's church in houston. The weird name is Thai for 'Airplane'

Good discovery, i am 53 and i like their mix of jazz, swing, 70's and More. Success for black pumas.
My favourite part, visually, of the whole recording is when the whole band is vibing together, through the music, in Colors.

Ever heard Khruangbin? I discovered them recently, their guitarist is off the hook and their drummer is like a human metronome. Only 3 folks but that bass holds it down. They're from Texas too, Houston. Drummer went to Beyonce's church.

Thankful for KEXP's venue. Love the Black Pumas! About 5 years ago, a small (5-week old) black kitten wandered into our yard one day and clearly communicated that he wanted to live with us. We named him "PANTHER." He's grown into a big, round, puffy kitty with a complex personality who graces & blesses us every day. "Colors" is his favorite song!
I just want to point out, the camera team does an excellent job, they are totally unintrusive. KEXP has such great production quality, keep it up! :)

I have never heard of Black Pumas before, but my jaw hit the floor at the first chorus of Black Moon Rising. They're soulful, jazzy, funky, and with that "haunting" bluesy sound all at the same time. These guys are good.
I want to thank KEXP for turning me on to so much good new music. This might be my favorite session of all. Black Pumas are so good it's ridiculous. When this style of 60s-70s rare groove soul is played well, nothing can top it.

My mom loved the Lord with all her heart and died early at 51. As a small child I would see her in the kitchen doing dishes and she would be singing this old song. My how I miss her tonight. Hug your living loved ones and tell them how much you love them because when the Lord takes them home it will change you forever. I am 65 now but I still remember her singing this like it was yesterday. May this song bring you hope and comfort!

I was blasting Colors while driving with my wife from Maryland to NY, after an interview for a job that would change our lives forever. The NYC streets were empty because of this virus that was starting to spread. Little did I know that the virus would take away that opportunity and change our lives forever in quite a different way. Damn you, virus.
3 years later she has a job at Stanford and I'll hopefully join her soon. Thank you, virus? One thing didn't change, this band is still awesome.
