Awesome video! I’m growing artichoke for the first time and this video was very informative. I now know what to expect as I see the plant grow. Thank You!
I live in Flagstaff,AZ at 7,000 feet elevation, and I am just now sprouting seeds for several container grown plants. I bought the Green Globe seeds from Home Depot, and it sounds like I should have gotten Imperial Star instead. Thanks for the great video. 🙂
Thank you, for this info packed video. Having spent a portion of the morning watching vids on artichokes, yours has been the most informative. I'm growing Green Globe artichokes for the first time. They were started from seed on March 8th and are under grow lights as we're in zone 4 in Minnesota. The seed leaves are large and the true leaves are just beginning to emerge and open. It is 48 degrees, hoping we get into the 50's today. Maybe I'll set them outside for a bit, but not too long.
Many thanks for that great information! Living in the Southern Hemisphere (South Africa) our growing times are different to yours but l do know that well cared for plants will reward one generously. Artichokes are so versatile and absolutely scummy to prepare and eat and only just having bought my seedlings, l have a lot to look forward to. I am planting them in well composted veggie boxes to ensure that l prevent the moisture from been drawn away to drier areas of ground. Many thanks for your great information. 🤗🤗🤗
Angela, you are now my go to garden guru. So happy I found you a week ago. I live in Zone 8a, but summers here are like zone 9 - hot and dry. Because of you, I’m attempting my first artichoke plant. I have several trees that suck the life out of my soil. My garden competes fiercely for nutrients and water. Knowing that, is it worth growing artichokes in an extra large container, about 20 gallon size?
Hi, I like your gardening style. You have got beautiful garden. I don't have land. i am doing pot gardening with homemade organic fertilizer. You can use banana peels water and eggshells powder
@@jalilaelqorchi Not very well. 2 died and one recently came back from the dead with new growth. I’m crossing my fingers that the other 2 also pop back up out of the ground 🤞🤞
From Los Angeles: sowed 12 seeds, 5 germinated but 2 had to be thinned. 2 have been planted out but the 3rd is progressing extremely slowly so it’s still indoors in my seedling area under lights. The 2 outside are just starting to establish. Based on all the research and other videos I’ve seen, the statement about artichokes not being picky about soil type is false. Artichokes will have a lower rate of bud production if the soil is too alkaline. Artichokes prefer a slightly acidic, well-draining soil. Additionally, they are a plant native to the Mediterranean region. That being said, they are slightly drought tolerant as the plant has adapted to that climate by sending its roots much deeper than most other garden vegetables. Good luck to everyone growing!
I remember watching this last year and was curious how the Roselle experiment went. Now that Roselle season is almost over, what do you think of how they did together? Was it successful? We'd love to know your thoughts.
