I love the video Angela. Good way to get rid of all bugs n stuff off the plants is to trim nettle, put it in a bucket or a barrel soaked in water for 24-48 hours, and then fill the spray bottle and cover the plans. If rains, repeat the process. Happy days :)

I'm growing Green Globe artichokes for the first time. They were started from seed on March 8th and are under grow lights as we're in zone 4 in Minnesota. The seed leaves are large and the true leaves are just beginning to emerge and open. It is 48 degrees, hoping we get into the 50's today. Maybe I'll set them outside for a bit, but not too long.

Artichokes are so versatile and absolutely scummy to prepare and eat and only just having bought my seedlings, l have a lot to look forward to.
I am planting them in well composted veggie boxes to ensure that l prevent the moisture from been drawn away to drier areas of ground.

Because of you, I’m attempting my first artichoke plant. I have several trees that suck the life out of my soil. My garden competes fiercely for nutrients and water. From Los Angeles: sowed 12 seeds, 5 germinated but 2 had to be thinned. 2 have been planted out but the 3rd is progressing extremely slowly so it’s still indoors in my seedling area under lights. The 2 outside are just starting to establish.
Based on all the research and other videos I’ve seen, the statement about artichokes not being picky about soil type is false. Artichokes will have a lower rate of bud production if the soil is too alkaline. Artichokes prefer a slightly acidic, well-draining soil. Additionally, they are a plant native to the Mediterranean region. That being said, they are slightly drought tolerant as the plant has adapted to that climate by sending its roots much deeper than most other garden vegetables.
      Good luck to everyone growing!

The MI Gardener disagrees with you about water. He says with their deep roots, he doesn't need to water his plants in Michigan. ???

Our climate here in the low desert of Arizona is a bit different than Michigan and we need to provide extra water.
