    The Ex was fantastic until about the mid-80s. Now it's a parking lot midway. Once they moved the Molson Indy there and tore down the permanent midway, it was game over. Remember when the Food Building was more than a lousy food court? And the Horse Palace stalls were filled with horses and farmers with TVs and beds? The butter sculptures? The Alpine Way? The Derby Racer? The Flyer? Wild Mouse? The neon cowboy? All the corporate displays? And the thousands of people?

    The Boliva tower.
    It was a great place to grow up.
    Toronto, Scarborough were amazing places to live.
    We had paradise and we gave it away.
    The sad thing is that the people we gave it to don't care a tiny little bit about it.
    When I say how much I love this place people look at me like I am a nut.

    I loved those puffy paper flowers (never bothered to get one) and the bouncing small stuffed-toys on elastics connected to fake bamboo hooks. Does anybody remember the 'Caterpillar ride'? It was a flat-ride train which circulated at high-speed over an oval undulating track, the riders were covered by a canvas awning which did not permit light (nor air) from getting to the riders. I only saw that ride present in '72, that was it.

    Does anybody remember a fun house called The Magic Carpet (I think that was the name). We walked around sort of in a maze, and then came out to a room that appeared to be on its side. It was slanted and hard to stand up in there. Then, after leaving that, we took a seat on a bench and it collapsed and we went down a conveyor belt to emerge outside.

      The leader came up and looked and the broke out with a huge laugh, the he pointed to his group and said " OK you *******s dig out a quarter and everyone of you get your asses up here.

    • @pipey61
      @pipey61 9 лет назад +3

      Yeah, I remember it well - it's long gone, too. It was torn down along with the Alpine Way because the east station was in the way for the new International Trade Centre at the east end by the Princes' Gates. So much is gone - the Flyer, the Grandstand, The CHUM Wildcat, the Doppelganger, The Shell (later Bulova) Tower. And the Food Court - what a travesty now!

    so, not to be the Grinch here. but fairs and carnivals pretty much look the same as they do now. Rides change names over the years and get slight variations.. but its mostly just round and round and round and close to the ground. There are a few of the legends here too.. Round Up (newest model Is called Zero Gravity) and the Zipper. I don't see the Sea Dragon, that's one ride that didn't come around until the 80s. but the fact of the matter is the difference between the vintage fair footage you see here on You Tube and a fair in 2017 are different hairstyles.

    • @cornwalldragon4617
      @cornwalldragon4617 5 лет назад +2

      Many of the rides that you see such as the Troika, Monster, Calypso, and Holiday Bounce are never seen in today's carnivals. One ride you mention which was the Sea Dragon wasn't around until the Pirate entered the scene. However this film was taken at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto. There were a number of permanent attractions there such as the Derby Racers, various carnival games, the Alpine Way, and the Flyer of which were all demolished.

    • @naughtiasteffano9885
      @naughtiasteffano9885 2 года назад +1

      There was wayyy better rides back then that are nothing like today’s. The skydiver, Turbo, tumbler, and the diamond center zippers were tire driven. It was a much wilder ride. Rides back then were scarier and faster.
