Island Progress & Glow Lichen Farm! ▫ Minecraft Survival Guide S3 ▫ Tutorial Let's Play [Ep.84]

- The Minecraft Survival Guide Season 3 continues in Minecraft 1.20.4!
In this tutorial, we make huge progress on the floating island build, and whip up a quick and productive Glow Lichen farm.
First, we look at how I'm texturing the floating island build with veins of calcite and diorite, patches of deepslate and tuff, and glow lichen for a natural approach to lighting. We then build a simple redstone powered glow lichen farm which lets us farm stacks of glow lichen in just a few seconds!
After that, we turn our focus to the ship build on top of the floating island, building it as a separate structure before blending the two with some custom landscaping.

Ive been playing Minecraft for a little over a year, and I just found out that a lot of the more popular creators are lying. Faking videos. They have whole teams of employees working on their videos. I love the fact that you livesteam daily. You dont make a bunch of 100 days this or 1000 days that videos. Ive learned so much about this game from you Pix. You are definitely my number 1 Minecraft creator. Thanks!!
Firstly, welcome to the Minecraft community!
Second, yeah, many of the bigger creators have teams that help them to create their content, but Pix is one of a collection of creators that don’t, and like you said, it’s awe inspiring. I also love the way he builds and draws inspiration from artists and his peers in both the Kingdoms series, and Hermitcraft.
Another youtuber who doesn’t fake their videos is Smallishbeans
Pix is my favorite also
Since you're new. I recommend watching season 1 Survival Guide.
who fakes their minecraft videos?
With hermitcraft between seasons Pix comes to the rescue when we need our minecraft content fix
i started binging the life series again. im desperate for minecraft content
I'm currently rewatching Grian's season 7, haha
I really like how the ship hovers by the light blue line in the sky, it looks like the horizon is a sea of kinds.
I'm pretty sure I am a Minecraft Veteran at this point having learnt the basics from my brother long ago but my real knowledge and skill came from, "The Minecraft Survival Guide Season 1" all the way back in 1.13, I still watch these new ones as your voice is very soothing and its fun and relaxing to watch. Everytime I play I somewhat speedrun the early game and get bored after I get maxed with elytra, and these series' have reminded me to enjoy it everytime. Thanks Pix : )
(Sidenote: Your weekend show, "Hermitcraft Recap: A show by fans for fans" is very good and helps me keep up especially the MegaRecap)
I absolutely LOVE this build!! It's so whimsical, fun and looks amazing! Your recreation of the artwork is art, in and of itself! I would think the artist would be honored by your inspiration.
It would be awesome to build a lighthouse on the hill looking out to the ship for a better view
I love this idea, it fits so well!
In fully lit areas, Glow Lichen brings a new element to texturing options. Keep up the good work Pix!
It would be nice to have a water stream falling from the edge to the blob of cobwebs on the halfway to the ground, imitating dispersing steams of water like in Avatar's floating mountains.
Pix not finishing back of the base “like those on Hermitcraft” getting in practice perhaps? Pix for season 10 perhaps? 😅
i sure would love it but unfortunately pix has stated multiple times that he won't be joining hermitcraft. can't really remember his reason tho.
That would be really cool, but it probably wont happen
xisuma has said a few times now that there won't be new hermits for quite a while, but there will be waaay more crossovers and collaborations. given how the charity stream marathon, empires crossover, and decked out visitors went... i'm seriously hyped for what he's planning for s10!!
What would be cool, in my opinion at least,is have a waterfall coming off the island to the ground and make a small lake. If you do the crater have the waterfall falling into the crater and make a lake. Also, if you do the cave on the backside have it lead into the floating island and put a mineshaft on the inside
something else you could do is make the sails furled. it's less wool, less work and it would make yit look like the ship is docked
I see you're building your own Stratos 😅
Loving the floating island project, but I think it would be even cooler if you utilized the hollow interior to create a catacomb of sorts, linking from under the ship to some cave openings on the underside of the island. There's all kinds of things you could build inside!
what amazing progress since the last vid!! this looks so awesome already. i'll be saving this vid for the tutorial on glow lichen using redstone, thank you pix c:
This started as a cool concept, and you're executed it very well. Bravo!
I was thinking, maybe add sime vines to the island, maybe even some blocks in mid-air, to give an effect that the island just got dislodged from the ground. (You'd need to maybe dig the ground too, to make a good illusion)
I’m new on your channel, I do enjoy your content so much. The dedication you put in Minecraft has definitely inspired me :)
Thank you for making this video Pix! It makes my monday better!
A water fall would be very amazing and relevant here 😜
For the flatter areas of the ship maybe you could add some crops, like carrots or beetroot. It would add a hint of color, and the green on top would break up the flat areas of the island. It would be a really cool feature, and could be like how the pirates are growing their own food. Thx
I suggest some short glowberry vines beneath the island
Are you going to make a crater where the island could be from? Might be cool if you mine out a crater that’s not quite aligned with the island and then have a massive chain going from the bottom of the island to the middle of the crater, almost like the island has drifted a bit
This is such an amazing build. ❤❤
So amazing. You inspire everyone.
Very cool build!
This this is Great, Keep Up The Great Work 👍
love your videos pix!!! please never stop making videos
Hi Pix! Maybe dangle some vines or glowberries over the island border into the depths? To break up that straight edge you're talking about :) Anyway, looks good so far!
Ngl if Bedrock MC on Switch had Lightmatica I'd be using that like crazy 😅
If you want to break up large amounts of moss from the side you can place some veins or glow lichen.
Having a couple waterfalls back to ground level would look good. Along with some dangling wines and the like.
I guess it's probably late, but i'd recommend a piece of rock having broken off the island, and either falling down or rising higher
Hi Pixelriffs! Have you converted to a Twitch streamer? You dont post as many videos anymore 😢 i miss your regular updates, survival guides, builds, contraptions etc. Well i guess streaming on Twitch is more lukrative😉 im just surprised now when i see a Pixelriffs video. It was you Jonny that got me inspired to play Minecraft and have never regretedededed😂 it ever, thank you but we need more videos more often brother😊 if there is real life stuff, ill plugg my yapper😅 nice to see more RUclips videos from you. Ps i have a world that has a floating Island but at that point i was burned out and took a break, this video makes me want to go back and Finnish, my style are islands but more like Grian's mega base in the last season👍
I posted fewer videos in January because we had family visiting. Aside from that, the decrease in video output happens naturally over the course of a series like this, because as a world progresses I tend to take on larger build projects and farms. Since this is a tutorial series, I don't want to repeat topics within the same season, so I run out of smaller tasks that can be recorded and edited within a single day. Streams stay consistent because the stream audience doesn't care if I just log in and chop wood for three hours.
I'd love to do a ship - I did one a long time ago. I found some islands in the air on my new world. My computer crashed and I lost my world - I had done my biggest build - the auto sorter and it looked so good to me. And lost it. So, maybe I'll get brave and do another one. Thanks loads.
Pixlriffs: Bringing new meaning to "Land Yacht" since 2024
19:57 "It's going to be constructed much the same in Survival, just without all the flying around" he says while flying around
it would be nice if you add flowing water from top of the island to bottom
Glow berries below the island
Pixlriffs,I have a guestion,is there any armour trims that show on the bottom of boots?
Omg put your spare Allays on the ship!!!
My favourite youtuber just drop a video. ❤️
Hello Pixlriffs. I kinds wish you post your Live streams in here for us that are not able to be on they when you are making them. so we can also get to see them to. It be nice to get to see them that way. When I look at the photo of the island & ship on it. the island is much longer them the ship is. It sticks out a lot more them the ship does, In the photo. Where on the video the Island is almost the same size as the ship is. It just makes the island look a bit small is all. It was great to here you say you would be working on the shape of the Island more. & I know who you meant By not finishing the back of there build. LOL that be Grian of course. LOL. I Love Grian. He is a really fun Hurmit.
the hermit tradition of not finishing the back predates grian being a hermit :P everyone does it. his streams are all posted on pixlVODs too!! you don't have to miss them :D
Wake up babe, new survival guide episode just dropped.
Thanks name
Maybe add a small waterfall on it or some dripstone and vines
Some natural pools of water in the flat areas?
There were some trees on the original picture... Maybe add a couple?
Pix is really good at explaining things in a simple way, without making you feel like a simpleton. I think the accent is real advantage there.
I know it's not in the picture, but what about the anchors?
If the island was pulled out of the ground, shouldn't you dig a crater beneath it?
Depends whether you think it was pulled out of the ground *here* or not! I like to imagine it's actually floated here from somewhere else, perhaps even steered by the boat itself.
I see Pix learned what strata are ^^
I've known about them for a while, I just so rarely get the opportunity to use them in Minecraft! Probably should've busted out the thesaurus for this video though😅
Anyone else miss his timelapses??? I would have really loved to see time-lapses of the builds that he creates.
I still think of Grian Mansion or Bdubs Castle moutain in Hermicraft season 7😅
Pixlriffs why don't you try to make a video with your subscribers. It would be fun to watch you interact with your fans !!
He does regular livestreams though
Really recommending the streams!
Now, it's time for a survival guide Season 4.
🎉
Wake up babe.....:)😊
I always like putting glow lichen on “noisy” blocks such as diorite, andesite, granite ect.
its ok pix. you can say grian
Everyone does it. Grian just has the largest audience.
the hermit tradition of not finishing the back actually predates grian!
