    Finally another outdoorsy computer programmer! Glad to see there are at least a few of us out there! Was watching this series debating some concrete bag walls for some flooding issues I have resulting from a neighbor's not being neighborly and keeping the main flood channel clear of debris.

      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. The concrete bag wall is still solid and working good. And a lot cheaper some of the alternatives. My problem was also caused by a neighbor diverting two creeks into one. Building that wall was almost as satisfying as writing good SQL.

      At high tide it's dangerous to go down there because the water current is so hard. I'll try to get some pics and put them in a video. Water is 3-4 feet over the roadway a couple of times a year . Thanks for watching

      Thanks. It was a much bogger job than I expected, mostly due to the weather, and the backhoe kept breaking down. I appreciate you watching and commenting. The wall and bridge are still solid almost one year later.

      Thanks. We're adding supports for the bridge. And working on the backside of that crossing. The wall is rock solid. I appreciate you watching and taking time to comment to me.

    I watched 4 of these videos, I seen a time I'd tried it, thanks for your efforts, has been like a documentary, are there more about it? Update?
    If you had to dive back in again and since have a backhoe and a neighbor with one incase you need a little help, I'd would just look at a major DIY project, I'd plan and do if possible to dig out that dirt, clean out both sides of that creek, widen it as much as possible to lower tye water as much as possible, then use as much riprap as possible over that culvert or better one, maybe use some caged rock on the sides etc, then go over the top with thick packed gravel.
    All due respect hired work isn't getting any cheaper and you are getting any younger.

    • @MikeM100
      @MikeM100  Год назад

      The wall was built primarily so we could drive some large tractors across the creek to cut the fields and do some land prep for tree planting. This summer I am taking out the culvert and building an open bridge across it. The county diverted some drainage areas and now there is too much water coming through that creek and it's overloading the culvert and the wall is acting as a dam. The county is going to provide riprap for us to line the creek. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.

    You basically made a pellet over some dirt...
    Idk about that wood bridge bs bro 😄 the concrete bag and rebar is fine. Kinda...
    But this is why people should be engineers 😄

      @@RoboArc I have degrees in both. And mechanical engineering. I know what I'm doing. And I've done several projects like this. It's still working good almost 2 years later. I actually built the bridge 2 years before I made this video so it's been there for 4 years.

  • @Ham68229

    Honestly, probably should've just pulled the bridge completely out, back filled, using the front loader to smooth and level. Then run over it with the backhoe to compact that back fill. You could've also used the front loader or hoe to pickup one side of the bridge and fastened those boards on easier.
    You would be wise to do the same thing you did on the front side of the culvert to the backside as well. Cheers :)

      Agreed. I plan to do exactly what you described. But my backhoe is broken and I'm waiting on the mechanic to get to it. We are also waiting on gravel to be delivered. I need to do a LOT of maintenance to that crossing. The weekends aren't long enough.

    might've missed it but did you soak the concrete bags with water to cure them or did you just let them dry cure on their own?

    • @MikeM100
      @MikeM100  2 года назад +1

      This was a 4-weekend project. We filled 5 gallon buckets with water from the creek and poured them on the wall when we finished each weekend. So the next weekend the bags were hardened when we started work. It takes a couple of days for the bags to harden. And we reinforced it with plenty of rebar. The wall is still rock-solid. Thanks for watching.
