MOBY DICK - THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL VERSION

  • This was, by far the most involved video to do yet. This solo is a BEAST, and really exemplifies how truly great Bonham was in all ways....his sound, touch, feel... his incredible speed and fluency technically, and his unique creative style. As great as this solo is, there are so many versions of his solo that contain all kinds of inventive and novel variations of the themes you find here. Check them all out! One that comes to mind is the version from Raleigh, NC 1970. Truly a one of a kind musician.
I tried to get as close to what Bonzo played as possible, but it's nearly impossible to nail every nuance and sticking pattern, especially without it becoming too clinical sounding. It's very valuable to closely analyze any great artists technique, so doing the breakdown/demo series on this solo recently was really helpful, and I hope it is for all who want to explore Bonham's brilliant style in detail. Here is a link to that playlist..... • Moby Dick Royal Albert...
Sorry for the somewhat poor quality of one camera angle. I realized after I started to work on the editing that one camera was fluctuating while it was processing the light and exposure. I have been using colored lights in my ceiling above the drums to try to get a more atmospheric look to the videos, but it's tricky to manage with the camera, and I'm an amateur when it comes to video!
I sincerely hope you all enjoy this! I will be finishing up the entire RAH covers soon.
Thanks for watching and please subscribe !

@@BONHAMOLOGY, did you time your solo?
There was about 12 minutes of no band and you came back in perfectly at the end.
Could there be a specific number of measures for the solo?
I have a friend who worked with The Baltimore Symphony and the percussionists sometimes sat out for 300 measures.
They really had to pay attention to the sheet music.
He said that if one percussionist did an extremely good job the others would shuffle their feet since they couldn't applaud.

Mr Fludas, i am truly honoured with you and by the way in your debt with your exciting channel, but the channel is nothing without your groovy and motivativatonal talent that was given to you by THE GREAT BONZO. I'm from Georgia and fan of rock since at the age of 1, now I'm 16 and still didn't give up on listening and playing drums. First band that changed my life was LEGENDARY DEEP PURPLE and my favourite drummer was MR IAN PAICE. But after i listened to all nine Zeppelin albums, everything really changed and the first track where i figured out Bonzo'a thunderous drumming was "IN MY TIME OF DYING" and this song made me listen to every tracks and now my favourite is "THE ROVER", it has epic guitar riff by PAGE THE MONSTER and funky bonham drum techniques. And I always wanted to learn and play this historical "royal albert hall" drum solo with Bonham's improvising paradiddles triplets and paradiddles-diddles, after I watched your analysing this drum solo, I realised that nothing is impossible. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. KEEP YOURSELF GOING ON AND BECOME LEGEND JUST AS JOHN "BONZO" BONHAM DID!!!!!!

Brother, I have heard them all, and I know you are good friends with Bonzoleum, but your Royal Albert Hall Moby Dick Solo was by far the best version other than Bonham himself, That was utterly perfect. I memorized bits and pieces of all of his solos, but the only one that I can play like you just did, is the one on Led Zeppelin II the studio version. You know how it goes. It starts with the hands then goes to the sticks. It's only like 2minutes and 16 seconds or so, but your Royal Albert Hall solo memorized like you just played it, I was not only in awe, but you put a smile on my face because I have never heard anyone play that 15:14 drum solo to perfection. Fucking Great Buddy.... I Loved it... I like your new Black Sparkle set that you just got also. Such a cool color.

I have two Zoom Q2n camera's . They are fine but I'm thinking I might want to upgrade, the max quality is 1080 but it still looks pretty grainy, unless the lights are way bright. I record the drum tracks to Garage Band through an Allen Heath 10FX mixer. I add some compression, reverb and a little EQ in Audacity, which is a free program. It's very basic. No Pro Tools or Logic.
