I studied in Glasgow and last year met an international student from Japan. I asked his name and he quite modestly said "Shunsuke" and I could tell he was worried that I wouldn't understand his name / how to pronounce it. I said "oh, like Shunsuke Nakamura?". He laughed and said yes. Caught up with him later in the year and apparently EVERYBODY he met did the exact same thing, referencing Nakamura. Speaks volumes about the legacy he left on the city.

Cha Bum Kun deserves to be higher on the list, he was making a name for himself while Korea was still reeling from the effects of war, poverty, and dictatorships. He's regarded as a legend in Germany, all while putting his homeland on the map. Can you imagine what he had to go through in those times, coming from a country no one had heard of and shaking off the immense doubt on his shoulders with skill alone? In my humble opinion, Son and Park are all great, but the obstacles that Cha had to overcome, and the legacy that he left behind, should cement him as Asia's greatest ever player.

This is my list: The Greatest 7 Asian Player List of All Time
    7. Kim Joo Sung (Korea) - One of the best striker of all time - 14 goals in 76 games representing Korea in the world stage. Probably the most underrated striker of all time and the best play maker in Asia.
    6. Ali Daei (Iran) - Iranian star in Bundesliga - one of the best forward who plays as a midfielder. Knows how to make and control the play, especially known for his leadership style during the play.
    5. Hong Myung Bo (Korea) - Probably the top on caps, also its rare to have a defender in this list - but this is the man to rely on if you are making a world class team.
    4. Park Ji Sung (Korea) - man with the top endurance, he wears down the defense of opponent and makes play happen - though he lacks offensive capabilities.
    3. Hidetoshi Nakata (Japan) - If you are looking for a player that has everything, endurance, striker ability, play making - look no further than this man. He has everything.
    2. Son Heung Min (Korea) - Need I say more...?
    1. Cha Boom (Korea) - Now, here is a legend...yes, he made a history in Bundesliga. Germany offered him citizenship in order to put him on their national team (which he gratefully turned it down). When European league was just started to accept players from Asia, it had many skeptics, but Cha changed the perception of Asian athletes in Europe in early 80s. Brought Bayer out of its slump and won the top spot, including UEFA cup - you only hear that stuff on movies but he lived that life.

One player in particular I really want you to cover is one of the best Greek players of all time: Vasilis Hatzipanagis. Considered to be the 'Greek Maradona' he spent the majority of his career stuck in Greece with Iraklis F.C. despite multiple of Europe's best clubs like Arsenal, Lazio and Porto trying to sign him. The board of the club didn't allow him to leave or even represent Greece on the international stage due to how valuable he was to them. His playtime for 8 seasons in Premier League was only 9443 min. Of the total 304 PL matches, he was only 200 in squad, 108 as a starter.
      More than 1800 min(90*20games or 70*26) is only one season, his first year. The rest are 772, 633, 1726, 970, 1083, 931, 1341.
The player mainly as a starter has the season playtime of 1800 min at least. 1330 min(70*19) is the bottom line.

I'm aware that Alcantara being in a video about Asian players feels like a stretch but you gotta let us have someone, anyone, iconic, my dudes. Not that I don't appreciate the Philippines squads of today, of course. It's just that we're kinda like the Southeast Asian Tottenham - good players, great potential, big results, zero competitive trophies to show for it.
EDIT: Christ, the amount of salt triggered by me being optimistic about my own damn national team. Don't give me that "just telling the truth" shit when I was clearly being lighthearted and joking about it. Chill the fuck out and let me enjoy my country's CURRENT FIFA ranking (124, but still third best in SEA) in peace. It's not 2007 anymore, we are no longer the region's whipping boys and you all gotta accept that.

Yasuhiko Okudera is the best Japanese along with Nakata. He played 9 seasons in Bundlesliga, the same period as Cha, the strongest league in Europe from mid 70s to mid 80s,
Nakata, who retired at 29, is the best Japanese because he played as a midfield player(OMF/CMF) in the most difficult European leagues of the time, Serie A(there is non EU player limits too) and Premier League. Within these top leagues, his UEFA appearances were 6 seasons out of the total 8 in Europe.
Like Nakata, Okudera played in the strongest league, Bundesliga from 77-85, which had been ranked 1st in UEFA for a decade!!! There was also non EC player limits in Germany back then.
Although he was LSB, his 9 seasons 234 games almost all as a starter are incredible. He won both the league and the cup in his first year. The standings of his team were 1,6, 5, 5, 2, 5, 2, 2 with 6 seasons UEFA appearances.
Kagawa has the most Japanese UEFA appearances, 9 seasons, but 7 were from 3rd ranked league. It's a shame that he survived only 2 seasons in Premier League, one of the two best leagues in Europe. I also wish that Park had got more playtime in Manchester. He played only 133 games 8102 min in 7 seasons because of his utility roles.
