I found out why i was swinging,You swing you when you stop pressing w, so when you hold w you do not swing, so you should let go off w after you hit them.

Hit selecting is alot harder than it seems, make sure u let go of w after they hit you and hold it back as you go for the hit

Both are good, depends on the situation and the oponent. S tap is more defensive, w tap more for offence i would say
