  • Who has the final say over the Orthodox Church jurisdiction in Ukraine? Is it the Russian Orthodox Church? Or is the Orthodox Church in Ukraine truly independent now? This is the question that’s led to schism and infighting, and a war in Ukraine isn’t going to make things any less tense.

I am convinced that most people who call themselves know religion instead of Jesus Christ. Or they have created their own God in their head. That is why we must make sure that we know the God of the bible and know that we are truly saved.
Lay religion, Christian culture, and even politics aside. Someone who truly loves you is reaching out to you not willing that you should perish (2 Peter3), but that you be saved from the price of your sins.
With that said, how do you deal with your sin? Yes you. How many times have you lied, lusted, or stolen? I'm guilty, what about you? I hope you feel convicted.
But if you're going to reject the free gift of salvation, you ought to think about where you are going after death.
      Is this your mindset?
      Luke 12:19
Please please do not be this person that Jesus described here. I don't care how if you are in a ministry or even behind a pulpit. And their is no shame in getting saved.
      Matthew 7
21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
You see there will be professing Christians that were not actually saved.
      I want to help you.
      Matthew 18:3
"And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven."
Because of God's holiness we cannot be in his presence as we are in our sin. No matter how righteous one may appear everyone has sinned and one sin can lead to hell, but there is a way out. We don't deserve it but God made a way that we may become the righteousness of God (Romans 5). I want you to have 100% assurance of salvation.
      Romans 3:23 - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
      John 14
6Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
      Romans 6
23For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
      1Corinthians 15:
      1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
      3For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
      Romans 10
9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13For WHOSOEVER shall CALL upon the name of the Lord shall be SAVED.
Here is the gospel straight and simple:
      1. Truly acknowledge that you have sinned against a perfect God and you are worthy of hell that can only be saved by the blood of Jesus Christ
      2. Believe that Jesus died for and covered all of your sins and rose again.
      3. Say to God that Jesus Christ he is your saviour.
Please let me know. I am praying for you, today is the day of salvation.
      2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

The Apostle Paul gave us two signs to look for... when watching out for the coming false churches.
      1. Forbidding marriage.
      (Catholic)
      2. Requiring abstinence from food.
      (Orthodox)
      1 Timothy 4:1-5 ESV -
1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, 2 through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared, 3 who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer.

If Peter (peter is cephas read John 1:42) the so called "first pope" was married, why does the catholic church doesn't allow "pope" to marry?

9)David messed up ( and he has the Holy Spirit),
      10)King Soloman messed up,
      11) Saul messed up and God regretted the decision (1 Samuel 15:10-11).
Hatrick (Saul then David then Soloman back to back messed up)
12)The apostles run away a day before Lord Jesus got locked up.
13)The early church messed up Rev 2:18-20, 1 Corinthians, Galatians.
      14) Apostle John when receiving Revelation worshiped an angel and the angel said "see you do not do that. Worship GOD" Revelation 22:8-9

      Galatians 4:21-26
21 Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not hear the law? 22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman. 23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise, 24 which things are symbolic. For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar- 25 for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children- 26 but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all.
Sarah is mother of all, Not mary
Also the Church has many name like Christians, Evangelists, Children of God, Believers, servents of God, bride of Christ, but not once the Church is called catholics
Changed the 10 commandments by deleting 2nd commandment, and dividing the 10th into 2 commandments. Also changing the real Saturday Sabbath to fake sunday sabbath.

8 Now I, John, saw and heard these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things.
9 Then he said to me, “See that you do not do that. For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God."
      Colossians 2:18
18 Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
You cannot go to Father through saints nor mary, you can only go to the Father through Lord Jesus Christ= John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Ephesians 2:18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.
Holy Spirit intercedes for us=Romans 8:26
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
      And CHRIST as well=Romans 8:34
34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.
      Hebrews 7:25
25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
It's Christ and Holy Spirit who intercedes for us not apostles

Anything non-materialistic, anything that might lead a people to say 'we're going to do what is right and we don't care about the economic consequences,' is a threat to the American Empire which relies on control of the global economy to wield power and influence.

@@russellmiles2861 you got it all perverted. Russia is an Orthodox Christian country and Orthodoxy is true Christianity. Ukraine, being closer to the West, has been influenced by its heresies which made it spiritually separate from Russia. Many young Russians are growing up in sin, away from the true Church, hence they have a lot in common with Ukrainians or Western kids who have lost their Christianity a while ago. But there also a movement towards the Church in Russia, this it makes our country a traditional Christian society. If you call it “reactionary”, we’re proud of it. Means we’re still Christians.

Excellent break down of the Orthodox Churches. I would like to mention that the Catholic Church of the Latin Rite did not really gain traction of being called the Roman Catholic Church until Irish and Italian immigrants began moving to the United States. There are currently 22 Rites in full communion with the Catholic Church in Rome. The new Anglican Catholic Church that came about due to the schism of the Episcopal Church are still considered part of the Latin Rite. Even though they brought the book of common prayers and celebrate Mass using the prayers from the Episcopal Church. Their have been changes in retention of consecrated Host to conform with the Latin Rite. God bless. 😇

Independence of the Georgian Orthodox Church was illegally abolished by Russians in 1811-1814 after annexation of the Georgian Kingdoms and Principalities by the Russian Empire. In 1917 the Georgian Orthodox Church restored its independence, that was recognised by the Russian Orthodox Church and the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 1943 and 1990 respectively. Therefore, the autocephalous Georgian church is much more older than one may assume from your video. Many thanks again!

    couple of notes
    1. the metropolitanate of kiev was transferred to in the 14th century when the city was invaded by the mongols-first to vladimir-suzdal and then to moscow. during this time, the metropolis was called “metropolis of kiev, moscow, and all rus’” which later, of course, became the patriarchate of moscow in the 15th century.
    2. with the ecclesiastical vacuum that ensued in kiev, the catholic poles eventually took control of what is now ukraine and effected a union between the local ruthenian orthodox clergy who were effectively coerced into accepting papal supremacy (see union of brest-litovsk 1596 and uzhhorod 1646). the kiev metropolis was a catholic uniate one until constantinople reconstituted it in the 17th century.
    3. the temporary schism between moscow and constantinople in 1448 took place as a result of constantinople accepting the union of florence with the catholic church in 1439, which moscow deemed heretical and which constantinople later repudiated (see gennadius scholarius and mark of ephesus).
    4. filaret was actually a front-runner to succeed patriarch pimen of moscow in the 1990s. a bit of a narcissist, he was quite sore about this. there is ample evidence of irregularities in his personal life that led to his being defrocked as well.
    5. moscow’s problem with constantinople’s recognition of the OCU is well substantiated by orthodox canons. filaret could not legitimately ordain clergy having been defrocked. yet…somehow rules can be bent when the US state department becomes involved.
    6. patriarch kirill’s lukewarm statements are disappointing, not unlike patriarch sergei during the stalinist era. but metropolitan onufry of the canonical UOC-MP has been consistently restrained and poised-showing solidarity with his flock and upholding the canonical norms of orthodoxy.

If you are one of the fortunate few who have never observed the following things during worship services, you might not understand the decline in attendance that many congregations were experiencing even before we were aware of COVID-19.
After each of the last three times my wife and I moved from one town to another, I attended the services of several congregations of several denominations (and some ostensibly non-denominational congregations). Here is a partial list of things that caused me to keep looking.
Political sermons in general but especially those that seem to be encouraging the creation of a theocracy in the United States.
Attempts to manipulate the emotions of the congregation.
Theology with which I disagree. (I’m not a traditionalist.) When I encounter theology with which I disagree in music, I can listen instead of participating but I much prefer for the songs to be listed in a bulletin or elsewhere so I can study the lyrics before it is time to sing the songs.
      Emphasis on “church” attendance.
Dogmatism (even with regard to theology with which I agree).
Lack of music that encourages people to sing parts (harmony).
Music that would encourage people to sing parts (harmony) but pitched so low as to discourage people from singing parts.
Patriarchy (or matriarchy) - leadership roles tightly held by one extended family.
Christianese - words or phrases that are not familiar to non-Christian visitors.
Lack of respect for the preferences of people who have been taught to treat the main auditorium of a church building as “sacred space”, even though I don’t personally subscribe to that idea.
Prayers that employ multiple and unnecessary repetitions of the names and titles of deity in violation (it seems to me) of Exodus 20 verse 7 and Matthew 6 verse 7. (See also verses 5 & 6.)
Creedalism in general and especially encouraging people to read or recite a creed.
Encouraging people to read written prayers aloud - especially when those prayers include “confession” of sins of which the majority of the members of the congregation are probably not guilty.
      Use of clerical vestments.
Statements or implications that certain ceremonies are efficacious (sacramental).
People “saving seats” for friends or family members.
Three of the five times my parents moved from one town to another before 1960, they transferred their membership to successively larger congregations but none of those congregations customarily did the things listed above.
This question is for anyone who might read it: Of the denominations whose services you have attended, which does the fewest of those things?

Before Sally and I met, she was providentially led to attend the services of a Free Methodist congregation that was enough different from what she had experienced previously that she had started attending twice a month and she had even joined the choir.

I applaud the author of this video and content. Very good presentation here.
I would only add one criticism around the 3:10 mark, it is mentioned that there
are two ways a church is Autocephalous. I would clarify that its a little more
nuanced then that. In fact, I would like to point to an even more significant reality
in determining Autocephaly, which is: at the end of the day, for us, a church is recognized
as truly Autocephalous if/when all the other Churches recognize it as such.
There is a place in our Liturgy when a primate (head of the church) presides in which each
church and their primate is named (read aloud). This list is called the diptychs.
What I see for the Future is that we Orthodox are moving towards a more formalized (and
expedient) way of recognizing Autocephaly. It will be the primates of each Church (or if
unable to attend, a representative) meeting and agreeing to recognize the Autocephaly
of the church that is claiming or seeking to have their Autocephaly recognized.

Up until today, there remains a cultural and historical division in Ukraine. Western Ukraine is much more closer to Poland and Lithuania while Eastern Ukraine closer to Russia. The UGCC (Ukrainian-Greek Catholic Church, which by the way practices the Byzantine Rite) was rooted in the Western Ukrainian lands. When the Poles were in power there, they forced the Union of Brest for these churches to unite with Rome. They were eventually united in communion with the Holy See, albeit keeping their rich traditions of Eastern Christian roots alive. Under the Russian Empire and the subsequent Soviet Union they were heavily persecuted. But fortunately the UGCC is well alive and doing well in today's Ukraine, even becoming the largest of the Eastern Catholic Churches, the largest of the rites within the Catholic Church after the Western Latin Church (headed by the Pope himself).

For 200 years the Roman church recognized the Photian council as the 8th Ecumenical Council. Then politics happened and another council from around that same time that had Bishops that opposed St. Photios was substituted in as the 8th Ecumenical Council to this day. Basically Rome reneged on the 8th Ecumenical Council.

Hi David Ness. I don’t think I stated who the apostasy was. That is not my term but from the Bible. ‘Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there be a falling away (apostasia) first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God showing himself that he is God. 2nd Thessalonians 2:3,4. The second epistle of Peter 2:1 gives dire warning to the early believers. But there were false prophets among the people (Old Testament) even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the WAY OF TRUTH shall be evil spoken of. My accentuating. Truth was spoken by Jesus, but was adulterated. Today the only source of Truth is by hearing God’s word and seeking its message. It is a surprising revelation what is really says, as opposed to mainstream Christianity.

@@carolebates9235 that's fair, you did not point out who the apostasy was. When I read/hear that word, it has a certain context for me, relating specific to sects of Christianity. I may have read into your statement a bit, my apologies.
You mention God's word. And I see that you're a bit familiar with Greek, and that you are in search for the early Church's teaching. Are you aware that God's Word is Jesus Christ Himself, the Divine Logos, referred to in the prologue of the Gospel according to John (chapter 1)? I know Christadelphians are very studious, and familiar with the Bible, so I'm sure you have a lot explanations for why that might not be so. But, the fact is, the ancient Church called Christ God, and the Divine Logos, and said that He always was (read: I AM). And united Himself to human nature, to raise it up in order to partake of the Divine Nature (2 Peter 1:4).
Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on us all.

After being defeated by the Soviets, they too created a Ukrainian Republic and gave it lands, which it historically never had, and this continued until the end of the Soviet Union.

In fact this is already happening, with the shameful closing of monasteries and the outright theft of the property of churches who are doing no harm to Ukraine.
