  • Samsquanch's S52 swapped E36 is some love! The death wobble in his worn-out front suspension and haggard wheels has finally motivated Samsquanch to do something about it.
    We get it into the air and confirm that the E46 control arms and sway bar links are shot. New control arms go in along with sway bar end-links, tie rods, and the 'eBay' angle kit that's been sitting around for the last year.
    On the first run didn't go so well. We tried to put in E90 inner tie-rods because they're longer than E36 tie rods and fit right into the E36 rack. Despite this mod being a popular recommendation on BMW forums, the thread just didn't go far enough down the rod to align the car and we had to go back to the stock ones, which fortunately were still in great shape.
    Another failure we encountered was installing E36 M3 sway bar end-links. The BC Coilovers on the car have a mounting point for them, and from what we understand, they should connect to the arms just find, but they looked like they interfered with steering and the were pulling on the sway bar in strange ways. No good. We pulled them and put back the terribly worn non-M E36 end links which simply connect from the sway bars to the control arms.
    After that the test drive had fixed about 50% of the 50-60 MPH death wobble, and the steering was MUCH quicker, but frankly it was still pretty crappy. New end-links arrived and were installed while Coose and Jonas give Samsquanch hell for stubbornly not changing out his questionable wheels.
    The second test drive showed another big improvement, but with the suspension completely refreshed, the wheels are the next target for sure. That's going to be cool though as Samsquanch has plans to retrofit his BMW Style 71 two-piece wheels with some pretty aggressive Work lips and barrels soon. Of course we expect for that to mean steel widebody modifications...but we'll see.

    I’m fighting same thing with my e36 😂 have same setup as you swapped wheels and still have wobble in wheel over 70 , does your steering roll over when it gets close to lock ? Glad y’all put this vid out. Now I know another soul is experiencing this ha ha I’m about to go back to no angle setup stock arms and all

    depending on what bmw he got those wheels off it could most def be the center bore of the wheel if they are from an e39 he needs to get hubcentric rings to center the wheel on the hub i had this issue on my style 32s i got off an e39 e36 center bore is 72.5 e39 is 73.6 or something

  • @zacharyandrew2653
    @zacharyandrew2653 3 года назад +2

    I have been having a shake and vibration in my wheel since throwing e46 arms , e90 inner tie rods , using stock e36 outers and no eBay lock adapters or anything . Had to chop a good bit off the tie rods to get the toe right but it’s all in spec . Tried multiple wheels and there’s this death wobble . Kills the car for me because I threw an s52 and manual swapped it , done a ton of work but really dislike how it drives . Did you ever get rid of that shake completely?

    • @JonasVanHorn
      @JonasVanHorn  3 года назад

      His car still has a bit of shake over 60. It’s not my favorite steering setup.

    • @JonasVanHorn
      @JonasVanHorn  3 года назад +1

      The thing that made the biggest difference was getting the wheels hub-centric. The wheels were from an e39, and the hubs in those are bigger. So get your wheels fit the hubs exactly and that your wheels are true and tires are balanced, then you should be good.

      We like the roll/sway bars, but will keep it in mind. Probably will go with extended e36 next time, but the right thing to do is run one of the SLR kits for sure.
