My pick would be the Yacare, its got a functional tip and I like the way the blade flares out (it reminds me of a the ontario sp53 sans the recurve). But it's weight is its biggest plus, it's something I would actually carry, my choppers go on my person not on my pack. The el chete is just too heavy, I think it's cool, but just not something I'd actually take out and use. I know an axe is the only proper woodland chopping tool, I have them (11 of all different sizes) and I know how to use them but I'm not a proper outdoorsman. I used to be motivated by perfecting my skills but now I'm motivated by having fun out in the woods and there is something undeniably fun, for me, about swinging a huge knife around.
That's funny you love swinging big knives but the el chete is too big? Just kidding I actually own the el chete and funny thing this is the first video i've seen that shows what it can do and wish there were more videos about it. Although I think you are probably right on the weight I'm over 1/4 of a half ton in weight so maybe less fatiguing...Or everything fatigues me fast either way. I do wish someone would show 2 hand feather and fine work. I guess perhaps I'm a bit too "unsafe" but i feel comfortable using my palm on the spine and pushing down for perfect control. Liked the video! Love the comments and keep it dress right dress.
No comparison, one is heavy chopper and one is medium chopper. You would use them for different tasks. I love both. Thanks for sharing, awesome new knife. Thanks. Tony
Interesting test i think closer than you might think, yes El Chete is more powerful but not by much . 1: the 10 chop test Yacre =23 seconds almost through. El Chete = 24 seconds . so even if the El Chete only needed 7 chops the binding up + the extra weight & effort needed working + carry weight all add up ,so unless you really need the heavy chopper the mid size Yacre might be the more useful tool .
Liked the comparison even though there two different classes of weight. Unless I were clearing brush I like a folding saw and my bushcraft knife for processing wood, less calories with a saw. Choppers are fun though!!! I don't own one but love the El Chete.
I'm so very close to pulling the trigger on the Yacare, but the cheep sheath sticks in my craw ! I'd rather pay more and get a better sheath ! Less leg work for me and at least in theory save money over paying $X.XX for a cheep sheath and then having to pay $XX.XX for a proper one! I assert that knives on the level of Tops should be a complete buy once cry once package !
You have to take into consideration the design intent of the knives. The Yacare was designed to be more of a combo between a chopper and a machete while the El Chete was designed to be a heavy chopper all day long. The El Chete also has a higher grind and more shear weight than the Yacare allowing for a deeper chop.
The 10.0 and El chete Both Deserve sheaths like the El chete they gave the 10.0 yacare a shit ass sheath same with the .230. Boo on Tops part or at least give us the option with a little bit pay difference I mean come on
I love the el chete....just wish they'd finish the handles...sand the edges already...seems like they do nothing by hand...straight off CNC and into the box...I get they are a production Company...but if they are going to charge custom prices..they need to do a bit of hand work. The Yacare handle looks a lot better....but still pretty square....with them being of a military background...I get they make a lot of their stuff to be used with heavy gloves on...they need to get past that and start making the handles more for the average consumer...

Definitely pros and cons to both but both great products.

@@livingsurvival What is the blade on top AND is it your favorite "big chopper" for 2020?
@@BOOSTEDLASER Perhaps Tops Power Eagle?
@@asdfasdf464 I finally tried it

+ Randy Yeager all these blades are hand finished. Check out thier factory tour.
how do you like those gloves
Do they sell a right handed version?
Great video very interesting and informative as well as entertaining. I personally want both but that's me.
Is that a Vols cap brother?
As always a very fine review !!
Thanks Ben!

comparing Tops choppers, I wonder how well the SXB would do compared to these two as well as handle ergonomics.
What is the best 14500 battery for the Thrunite Archer 1A V3 flashlight, olight or nitecore?
Olight, Nitecore, Fenix, Thurnite etc...all about the same.
Living Survival Thanks for the reply, good vid 👍🏻
El Chete all day long! Nice side by side. TANIMBOCA PUUKKO Got a PUUKKO Taco LOL Have a good one Ben.

Already own the legendary El Chete! It's going to very hard to best this "production" chopper.
I was all set to get the Chete. Then I saw the Yacare. Bastards. Have you walked a bit with the Chete on your hip?
Took out that small tree pretty well at the end
Fav big chopper these days?
El cheteeeeeeeede!!!!!!!! Just got mine , thanks for the video .
Is El Chete the ultimate machete? Or is there something more brutal?

It looks like the el chete would make a good draw knife as well for tool making
Nice thanks

Two different knifes. For me, the Yakare is the "Almost" perfect all in one tool. Sadly it needs 2 more inches on the Handle.
Finally an accurate pronunciation of Yacare!
Nice
For heavy use i will go for elchete but for camping edc and the looks definitely yacare eh eh...
Excelent video. Here in south america the machete is King. Excelent comparison and coclusion.
Flavio From Brazil
Ofcourse the el chette chopped it when you flipped it over, the other one would have done the same lol . Awesome video brother.. great quality.
Don't like the handle. Too 'one position' for me. A longer curve handle would be better. But nice comparison video.
The TOPS Tapioca Pudding knife..
About broke the camera ben
El Chete for me.
The smaller one is the size of my schrade mini machete I've beat the holy heck out that blade great vid thanks ben

Master of none
Be careful .. Either one could probably chop your finger off...

Um, El Chete is a steal for what it is. You would be paying $700+ for a custom blade of that size easy!
it's not custom though...not even close...it's 1095...not a super steel...and the handle sucks...
does the handle on the el chete look hand finished to you? sure doesn't to me...
El Chete = Corps Cleaver!
Yacare for the win
