For the opinions about Joe Claussell, in the ever famous words of Eddie Adamor..... "not everyone understands house music, it's a spiritual thing, a body thing, a soul thing". The skinny of it is either it's your thing or it's not. And for many people that go to see him, well it's their thing while others banter on about it on RUclips posts. And yes if you meet him in person it is a pleasant experience because he's a man that spiritual appreciates life and you'll never meet a person nicer than Joe Claussell. He's an abstract Dj. Just appreciate it as art and there are really no rules when it comes to art.
Nick Sneddon You wouldn't, so no surprise there. You are conditioned like a Pavlovian dog and wouldn't know your arse from your head when it concerns House/dance music, or the mixing capabilities of a DJ. Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach and those who can't do either become critics. So which category do you fall in? On second thoughts don't bother, the answer obvious. Only a fool would subscribed to the narrative of Mixmag, DJ-Mag et al, of what constitutes a good DJ and the closed world order of DJ's they love to portray and promote, lapped up and swallowed by plebs like you. Learn to think for yourself. Anybody rating Danny Tenaglia, Hot since 82 and Danny Howells, says it all really and a stark reminder of the type of clubs they frequent and hence the narrow view they hold regarding the merits of a DJ. Go and listen to Timmy Registford, Joey Negro, Alton Miller, or Shannon Chambers, to understand and know what DJ-ing actually is, plus all the aforementioned are prolific producers and remixers in their own right. Dance music is a black thing, a MOBO as they like to call it and we should never forget this fact. A white narrative from either myself or yours, claiming to know what's best and good, does it a disservice, because its history is long and vast. Plus going by your comments, you are simply not qualified to pass judgement at all. On a side note, how a DJ and remixer of the calibre of Timmy Regisford, is not in Mixmag or DJ-Mag top 100 DJ listing and cardboard cut-outs like Tiësto, David Guetta and Hardwell routinely make it, is a sickening reminder of the narrative Mixmag and DJ-Mag love to push. Both these rags have developed a reputation of being the NME of dance music and you've bought into it. Now run along Nick Sneddon, Pavlov in the form of Mixmag and DJ-Mag is ringing that bell.
Nick Sneddon No i'm saying that people forget House music is a culture and it was never about how well you mix the music. It's about the feelings and emotions you invoke to your audience. Joe Claussell has been around longer than most people posting on youtube, including both you and I. Larry Levan wasn't touted as the greatest mixer in the world, but he was a pioneer by playing and mixing things that no one has ever heard before. And the other thing you have to respect is people like Joe Claussell, Little Louie Vega, all made effects on their rotary mixers without fancy Pioneer gear and a "sync" button. If you truly understand House music and you truly know who and what Joe Claussell has done for the culture of House music, you reply wouldn't be so close-minded and adolescent. Hence the words.... "Not Everyone Understands House Music....." No point continuing this conversation. I like him and what he does, and you do not. Can't we just leave it at that and be happy?
Nick Sneddon Maybe you and I should post a mix of the same exact songs and let the internet compare how our mixes make them feel. Or how about about we just do something to perpetuate the House/Dance music forward, inspire others, and not just focus our attention on things that doesn't help to music progress. What exactly are you doing to help music sustain it's merit?
This gentleman is a beast. I remember the first time I heard and saw him play live in NY for Body and Soul. I was blown away. As a Garage member and L. Levan lover, I can say Claussell can make me sweat anyday.

Joe Claussell is an '' Architect of Ethereal Sound '' and one of nicest people you will ever meet . The days of Body and Soul in it's original Downtown Manhattan space on Sunday afternoons this place was '' CHURCH '' and Joe Clausell was your Preacher Man ...... Hallelujah !!!!!! .... ( also this Boiler Room set is absolutely amazing ! )
+Rome' Miller YES and that is what New York is missing a regular weekly "CHURCH" meeting with this exceptional house music Don't forget to insert the vocals though.. where are you guys you abandoned NYC why is that??
Joe Claussell is a true Master. I remember hearing him spin at the Lincoln Park Music Festival in Newark NJ some years back. He had us working up a sweat. It is unfortunate that the crowd in Paris is so tired! Seems like they are dazed out. Music like this is a spiritual thing.
To those complaining about "Knob twising" and effects.. you dont understand the Claussell sound. Also, listening to a recording of his set, and being there, is two different things.. Its not for recording, its for experiencing. That mixer sounds amazing on a powered PA set, with a master like him behind the controls. RUclips is the problem, not Joe.
This is not the setting for Joe.. most places outside of NY are not the setting. People put their phones up and video or scratch their chin. He feeds off a crowd with a vibe and energy.. not a bunch of millennial posers. And the crowd vibes off him and his tunes.. how it should be a.. proper symbiosis. If you find this frustrating or don't get it... youre the lesser for it.
Idiots. You don’t know house at all if you’re talking shit about Joey. ONE OF THE BEST TO EVER DO IT!!! Boiler Room audience suck is what it is. That’s right, I said it.
True dat! Also people don't get the rotary mixer style of mixing. There not used to seeing & hearing them these days, although they are making a come back. Mr Scruff was using a bad ass looking one in his boiler room recently. Joe's production though! Incredible back catalog under many different names.
It’s a rotary mixer (E&S DJR400) with 3 isolator knobs on the main output. They are used to eq the main output low, mid and treble. As the name suggests, they’re isolators so go down to a full cut on each band. Joe works the isolators hard. That’s just his thing. If you’ve ever used a fat sounding analogue rotary mixer, this is so much fun. He predominantly works the low and mid in conjunction with each other. Cutting one, vibing with the other and everything in between. You can get some cool effects when done right. Is it overkill? Arguably, yes. Sometimes you have to let a hot track do the talking and it can be detrimental to the overall groove. But the other side of the coin is that music is art and this is how he feels it and interprets it. And few feel it more than him. It’s hard to judge this set over a shitty quality RUclips video. The audio quality in that venue on that sumptuous mixer will be like nothing the majority of you have ever heard before. Assuming your usual clubs and djs all play on standard, digital pioneer equipment. Whatever you think you’ve heard that sounds amazing before, this mixer sounds eons better. Don’t judge until you hear it in person. I’d take this any day of the week over some young digital kid who has never known life before the sync button and all his built-in digital effects. A kid who will never appreciate just how fat an amazing analogue sound can be on a proper sound system. Sound quality is everything. I think most only realise that with age. Slightly hypocritical as I know I’m one of them. But DJs were still banging on vinyl when I was coming up, myself included.
Yeah, listening to this mix I can't watch because seeing him jump on the isolators all the time makes me premeditate the shift and get annoyed with how much he sits on them... but since discovering Joe's music I've been blown away by the sacred rhythm and would have loved to be in that room there. I need some better headphones too. but first I need to get a turntable - it's all about continuous progression!
Well said. I think times have changed for a lot of cities in regards to how they take in their dance music. It may sound cliche. But folks used to dance. In front of speaker stacks. Sober. All night long. Not halfway into a k hole, scratching their chin, talking about music they’re not dancing to.
knob twiddling, seriously, its an E&S DJR 400, rotary mixer, he's mixing between records with the knobs and filtering the low/mid/high frequencies in and out instead of using a cross/up fader. Slap yourselves on the face, this is a master at work and showing you how its done, for me its extra effects that just add to the spirituality of the music, go see someone just beat mixing in a nice clean smooth transition, Joe, is the master of just adding himself to the vibe and just destroying the floor with spirituality and rhythm.
Dimps Maldoon Rotary mixer or not--- mere manipulation of E.Qs should NOT be applaud as a mix master ingredient. Sure, killing the bass out of one song in order to usher in the next song whose bass rhythm would otherwise clash with the song playing is a mixing trick that works. Other than that, I don't or won't applaud a DJ for fucking with EQs all night long
playing music like an instrument and praising the Almighty at the same time.....Glorrrrry Kathy from clublove, shelter, and body&soul. Do yr ting Joey!
This brother here PUMPS....he used to turn out Lincoln Park in Newark, NJ at the music festival every year until they couldn't afford his prices!!!! He was here in ATL right before I got here and I missed him .... so I'm looking forward to hearing again where ever I can find him.....And by the way the set here at the Boiler Room is HOT!!!!
Beautiful!! Maestro!!! A rare master of jazzy, soulful house!! Superbly mixed the first tracks with the percussion, jazzy sound. And how beautifully he moves to the beat and rhythm of the music!! Old school - in a word. Unfortunately, a rare class, especially after the departure of smiling Frankie Knuckles! From Moscow with Love.
I'am from the old school of DJ's, from NY, and glad to say, DJ Joe Clausell is a great entertainer, creative, knowledgeable with music, and a top showman in the the DJ business. I really love his choice of dance music.......bravo!!!!!
Hat's off to Paris! This is one of the few Boiler Rooms where everybody was dancing. The venue at the Institut du Monde Arabe is just fabulous! Nothing beats day-time house music!
Joe really shows you that just playing records isn't enough,I love the way he plays. He wants you to hear certain aspects of the songs he plays. This is some hot techno hes playing right now, pure fire
these tracks are brilliant, I know what will make them sound better - intermittently cutting out the vocal and slamming the filter all over it for as long as possible. Yeah that will do it
I was in New York years ago at body and soul where he's spinned and I have to say live he is very good it's like he can remix a song live I'd get sick of him every week but as a one off night he was brilliant ! Respect
The absolute best part - and a great example of why Joe Claussell hears and feels things differently, and that we should simply let him do his thing and enjoy his artistry - happens in the entire improvised segment from 28:55
The Claw! God damn I love this guy. Only ever managed to see him live once about 15yrs ago but he was next level good. This style of mixing is how deep house has been done for decades in the US. Just watch Louie Vega on a bozak or any of the older heads. Cut out the bass, throw in the highs... WHOOOOOOOOOOSH
Dope!!! My brother Joe is a channeled individual. The life of the music flows through him! To me he brings the artist presentation of the music to high definition. Its not just turning of knobs. It is the interpretation and expression of this vibrational Art we call House
And to all the people complaining of Joe's knob twisting, it's just a way of transforming the beat,it has a long history behind such equipment thats not know to the general public, furthermore if he was in an conventional DJ's booth(several feet above the dancefloor) you'd be JAMMIN without even giving it a thought as to how the music was being manipulated, I DID'NT KNOW FOR YEARS WHAT DJ's here in the states(well NEW JERSEY and NEW YORK) were doing up there.Dose he have to do that? NO, it's just raw creativity spontaneously happening(organic/spiritual) and HOUSE . . .IS . . .A . . .FEELING, when start DJing (and i hope you will) you'll see after awhile that the way you deliver the mix to the people dancing will become your signature sound. Peace.
Wow...this is guaranteed to make you feel 100%. Joe Claussell bringing our Weather festival warm up to a close from the incredible Institute du monde arabe in Paris. Thank you Joe Claussell and Jack Lang.
Never had the pleasure to play with him but he's definitely up there with the great 'Feelers of the music'...He feels it alright and for the guy who posted, 'He's looking for something to spin'...he's bending and verbing and reverbing segments of tracks to bring the listeners up and down, in and out, not that you'd know, as you are obviously too busy with critiques to probably try your own shit out...Haters keep hatin, Go Joe...Fly the flag, keep the faith!
+Scott Matthew You said it better than I could. Paradise Garage forever. We remember. Haters will never get it. We do. thanks for teaching them about something they will never know or have.
www.mixcloud.com/ScottyBoy-Matthew/dance247-radio-broadcast-no-1/ Then scroll down from this mix and you'll find the other sets amigo! I think you've found another Scott Matthew on mix cloud…!
Красава!! Маэстро!!! Редкий мастер jazzy, soulful хауса!! Шикарно свел первые треки с перкуссией, джаззи саундом. А как красиво двигается в такт и ритм музыки!! Old skool - одним словом. К сожалению, редкий вид, особенно после ухода улыбающегося Frankie Knuckles!
One of the Best DJs of all time. The ones that have seen him live at NU can feel up until now the rhythm inside them after all those years... Stevie Wonder Another star remixed by him is something from another planet.

The way he manipulates the crowd is just like the Pied Piper 👍 What a diverse selection. I can never predict what style of dance music that he will play next.
Hahaha yeaaaah - he just didn't play the set - he lived it! - huge performance by Mr. Claussel - thank you Boiler Room - this was one of the special and missing ones! - I think there is only Jeff, Slam and Mr. Bangalter missing? - waiting for them! :-)

DJ Joe Claussell is like Marmite-you either love him or hate him. It’s all subjective. For me, anything overdone loses its charm; less is more. From a DJ’s perspective, it’s about the crowd, and those who go to his sets are there to watch him do his thing. But personally, I just want to hear the music flow without too much knob fiddling. That’s no fault of Joe’s, it’s just my preference. I agree with the other gentleman that it can get frustrating to listen to sometimes, though I do appreciate him more as a percussionist. Just my opinion.
for the people that put there thumbs down y'all don't the art of real housemusic JOE CLAUSELL IS IN A CLASS BY HIMSELF AND ONE OF THE BEST HOUSEMUSIC DIS ON THE PLANET YESSSSSSSSSSS GAWD
Joe C. is a DJ that allows House Music into his body, veins and being. I bet you, if we had mechanisms to verify as much, his breath would be House-Music legit. Long live Joe C., who not only understands House Music, but knows how to deliver it when playing to his audiences. Long live Joe Claussell.
It's not knob twiddling it's adding Dynamics to a set. Just like a conductor of an Orchestra bringing out a violin solo...a sax line ;bringing out the Baseline , changing the rhythm of the drums . it's about adding a live aspect to a record..it's about crowd participation in the dance. listening at your computer by yourself might not make sense. But if you've ever been to New York and Body and Soul and see how the crowd reacts jumping up and down singing along with the track clapping shoutingcrying you'll see why 5,000 people every Sunday came to let go on the dancefloor
... ... ...so far paris boiler room is the best joe claussell i have heard mixed; paris brought out sophistication! in joes masterpiece style ; but it seemed boiler room dj's were sabotageing the elevation of joes spiritual musical elevations ; like timmy registford "all you'll need to know" and "diffrent me" at the end! ; no disrespect too the creator of "different me" ; but joe, like his overlay dubs of "all you'll need to know" were supreme masterpiece reworks ; because joe elevated! the musical expressions ; the paris crowd was sophisticated, a little bound, because you would of seen me groovin and swetin, swinging with hands slowly raised ; i guess i like the boiler room the best, because their is an attempt by joe claussell to "paris his funkadelic"! love Brother brent! 💘
House music hadn't made it to Paris when I was last there, what a pleasure to listen to Joe Claussell lay it down with my favorite city in the background. No you didn't play 47:21 that's way way back like Montreal 77

Track "Fable" - is something out of this world! And how Joe perform it - everything is written on his face, evry emotion, every string of the soul!
A legend, real legend, if only he would come and bless us with his presence in South Africa I think I would call it a day here on planet Earth
the man plays from the heart period his isolator work is sincere and adds drama to the set

Playing music with an E&S djr400 mixer is real deejaying. Real music and true grooves in that boiler room mixed by Joe Claussell.
another NYC genius DJ only a few left now...
The best Boiler Room ever. Change my mind.
Love the journey he is taking them on and he is so feeling it; which prove djs are musicians
One of the best boiler rooms I've ever seen !! Joe claussel is just insane !! Vibin' WOW WOW WOW. EQing is soo good' KING ❤️
Maximilian Holzer if he’s the best boiler room set you’ve seen then you can’t have watched very many
Steel city buds channel, isn’t it his opinion ? Respect someone’s opinion everybody’s music taste or dj taste is different
The E&S mixer is a beast for *knob twiddling* It was made for someone like Joe.
these tracks are brilliant, I know what will make them sound better - intermittently cutting out the vocal and slamming the filter all over it for as long as possible. Yeah that will do it
I've never seen so much energy behind the decks, bloody incredible set
love love love to see this guy play...always puts on great show a great selection of music.....
I was in New York years ago at body and soul where he's spinned and I have to say live he is very good it's like he can remix a song live I'd get sick of him every week but as a one off night he was brilliant ! Respect
HANDS DOWN FOR MR. CLAUSSELL !!!
Man . this set is getting better with the time!!! Love Joe to the bones!
The absolute best part - and a great example of why Joe Claussell hears and feels things differently, and that we should simply let him do his thing and enjoy his artistry - happens in the entire improvised segment from 28:55
Much love, great set. Ty Mr. Claussell, you are a wonderful dancer
love just watching him!!
I love the way he works the isolators on that rotary mixer
He is a master of his craft. miss Vinyl on sundays ...WORSHIP !!!
Priceless Joe did his thang Keep House Alive my brother 🎶🎶🎶🎶🔊🔊🔊🔊
Love love his energy. We need more of this.
Peace.
la passione che ci mette mentre suona è contagiosa..per non parlare del sound che è impossibile non ballare..immenso joe
Wow...this is guaranteed to make you feel 100%. Joe Claussell bringing our Weather festival warm up to a close from the incredible Institute du monde arabe in Paris. Thank you Joe Claussell and Jack Lang.
best House set we've seen in ages, this is a DJ, what a set.
Love joe the music actually possesses him ..🙏
J.C always comes thru ...... Threw in that Flashback classic ! Bravo Maestroooo
Joe Claussell is a Legend.....House Music is a Spiritual & Soul thing......Werk
Wow, Zawinul. I have a renewed respect for DJ's.
THE LEGENDARY WORLDWIDE DJ JOE CLAUSELL HOUSEMUSIC ALL NIGHT LONGGGGGGGGGGGGG
get into the man every thing about him is music he dont just play it he lives it breathes it creates it fuck the haters
Joe you still got it. 🔥
I Dj myself Kenneth, mix cloud Scottyboy Matthew, have a listen pal! :0)
+Scott Matthew Decent singles but where are your MIXES? You are leaving me very THIRSTY for on the club floor. Do you have any 90 or 120 minutes sets?
www.mixcloud.com/ScottyBoy-Matthew/dance247-radio-broadcast-no-1/
Then scroll down from this mix and you'll find the other sets amigo! I think you've found another Scott Matthew on mix cloud…!
so beautiful to hear you Joe, even a year later! Hope to find you in New York, somewhere, as well. MUCH love. Helga
NOW this is what a dj sounds like
One of my favourite boiler rooms :) Really dig his style and of course the track selection is great.
Isolator art, what a Master at work
This set is becoming a classic for me.
about 10 years ago joe signed my vinyl in record shop[now closed] with a nice message

Madness and pure Genius..I love it totally!
Красава!! Маэстро!!!
Редкий мастер jazzy, soulful хауса!! Шикарно свел первые треки с перкуссией, джаззи саундом. А как красиво двигается в такт и ритм музыки!!
Old skool - одним словом. К сожалению, редкий вид, особенно после ухода улыбающегося Frankie Knuckles!
One of the best BR episodes ever.
One of the Best DJs of all time. The ones that have seen him live at NU can feel up until now the rhythm inside them after all those years... Stevie Wonder Another star remixed by him is something from another planet.
Amazing set. Great close ups of the master at work whoever did the video.
He has Rythm and groove literally flowing through his all body! Magnificent!
... ... ...🎶never been too new york new york but in my dallas lake highlands neighborhood ; lowest eastside ; this is all i play into the wintertime summertime airs ; wave after wave ; 1977 give or take a decade, new york new york was america ; lady liberty with her twin towers looking over her... ... ...now she is no longer america 2019 november 14 ; and i will never walk her streets, but her soul vibe "lives on", my lake highlands dallas texas streets through my spiritual musical brother joe clausell! 🎶
llove disco~soul~jaZz~Man🎺😎

The best gig I saw this year ! Joaquin is AWESOME ! RESPECT !
Deux choses incroyables dans cette vidéo: le set de Joe Claussell, la fille en robe jaune. 😍
The way he manipulates the crowd is just like the Pied Piper 👍
What a diverse selection. I can never predict what style of dance music that he will play next.
Simply my thoughts 💭 Ace.
And 🇫🇷 France a lovely place too. Moments. X

Hot set JC!! I remember the ole skool Body and Soul dayz. Spiritual Vibz forever!
One of the best mixes in a long time
Great JOB , Real DJing! Thanks A Lot for the Good Music Joe Claussell and the Amazing Sound from the E&S :-)
Love the Drums !
Space is the Place!
lol love it when people leave a record spinning for the effect. also love it when they play records.
for the people that put there thumbs down y'all don't the art of real housemusic JOE CLAUSELL IS IN A CLASS BY HIMSELF AND ONE OF THE BEST HOUSEMUSIC DIS ON THE PLANET YESSSSSSSSSSS GAWD
Joe C. is a DJ that allows House Music into his body, veins and being.
But if you've ever been to New York and Body and Soul and see how the crowd reacts jumping up and down singing along with the track clapping shoutingcrying you'll see why 5,000 people every Sunday came to let go on the dancefloor
very good, Joe Your music inspires me
LOVETRAIN ❤🚂 brought me here!!!
Bro Joe always keeping it interesting.. also with the shimming business too... From NYC with LOVE.
Much Respect... Joe Claussell, hands up!!!
une des meilleures que j'ai vu récemment...

Waiting For Body & Soul live in Napoli. June 22nd, 2014!!!!!
One of the best Musical experience: BODY & SOUL
Waiting for the Napoli one!!!!!
the only thing better than B&S at webster hall nyc is neuhm B&S in naples :-)
... ... ...so far paris boiler room is the best joe claussell i have heard mixed; paris brought out sophistication! in joes masterpiece style ; but it seemed boiler room dj's were sabotageing the elevation of joes spiritual musical elevations ; like timmy registford "all you'll need to know" and "diffrent me" at the end! ; no disrespect too the creator of "different me" ; but joe, like his overlay dubs of "all you'll need to know" were supreme masterpiece reworks ; because joe elevated! the musical expressions ; the paris crowd was sophisticated, a little bound, because you would of seen me groovin and swetin, swinging with hands slowly raised ; i guess i like the boiler room the best, because their is an attempt by joe claussell to "paris his funkadelic"!
love Brother brent! 💘
House music hadn't made it to Paris when I was last there, what a pleasure to listen to Joe Claussell lay it down with my favorite city in the background.
No you didn't play 47:21 that's way way back like Montreal 77
