Wow, seeing Jon Stewart talk about my city is really strange haha I must say that I'm really starting to like this guy a lot. He's not condoning the riots but he most certainly understands the root of the problem and I respect him for being conscious. I especially like the beginning as well when he points out the double standard in how the media portrays sports riots compared to Black uprisings. I fucks with this dude man I really do.
fmadiva Agreed. He seems to recognise that systemic issues aren't the fault of the cops but rather other inequalities. It's why many of these issues don't happen outside of the US. Riots aren't the way to go about this, not by a long shot.
fmadiva I really only trusted the local news regarding that event. What I really hated was the way the national news tried to focus on the friction between the governor and mayor. It was really a difference between a good and great job, that people treated like a bad and worse.
Those statistics they quoted, it is truly difficult to believe that anyone wanted anything good for the city or anyone living in it...america? This is a place in america!
anianza mujhamad well that is true, systematic racism was rife during that time but it's not so bad now. look at black families, it's pretty much dead. welfare mentality has kicked it along with the get rich quick mentality has destroyed black families and communities. racist policies don't help either, but how do you change that. you change it from the inside. you join the police, become lawyers, judges and not do drugs. black people are targeted more, but they shouldn't be doing drugs in the first place. it's not even worth it. feminism definitely hasn't helped black people at all, it's just made it that much worse. i'll well aware of the black wall street but do you really think they didn't have racist policies back in the day? they had it much worse. black people have never had this much freedom in america. what's stopping black people from starting their own business now? what stopped black people from being educated? complaining isn't really going to do much, you gotta act on it to solve the problem. it's a generational battle and black people don't seem to realise it. they need to start building wealth so that they can pass it down to their kids and they can build on top of it. that's how you build family wealth. that's why white people are much better off before they start out being better off.
anianza mujhamad It's true that 797,500 people under 18 were reported missing in a one-year period, according to a 2002 study. But of those cases, 203,900 were family abductions, 58,200 were nonfamily abductions, and only 115 were "stereotypical kidnappings," www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/explainer/2007/01/800000_missing_kids_really.html

Pee Diddy ,, zod was standing on a couple of those cop cars,, Why do you say these things when I can kill you,, is what cops think just before you know? I loved that line too
No people don't understand that. They think jobs grow on trees and increased public spending will solve everything. The only way to clean up the intercity is to increase the jobs there. These riots make them worse off than they were before. People get involved with the illegal things because they want to make money. That in turn causes violence. Places with high unemployment lead to more violence and cops deal with more things in these areas which put them on edge more than they would be elsewhere. This leads to tragedies but the reason isn't racist cops it's violence in their communities that make cops overly tense and it leads to horrific incidents
