Jim, what a valuable resource you are to the fly tying community. Together with Hans here in the Black Hills of South Dakota you have rekindled this old geezers efforts to get back in the saddle behind a vise. Thanks a lot.
Thanks for tying this fly as requested. You are the best. I have never had such quick turn around on a request. Thanks again so much. All the best, Sean
i've been tying for quite a while now and i still come back to you videos. just watching you has upped my quality and speed immensely. thank you from me and i'm sure my friends thank you too, since they're always bugging me for flies...lol
I'm glad I can be an inspiration to your fly tying skills. I used to give my friends flies until I had more friends needing flies then I had money to keep buying materials. So know my friends are my best customers.
Just keep doing what your doing!@@TheFlymanJim I get regular inspriation from you. I might not tie it exactly the same way you would. I often substute feathers, fur I have for what you used. But the basic concepts, you get those across strong. Rock on!
@@Ghosthawk332nd That is the object of the videos, not all need to be coopied per say, but some do. One of which is the GSS Emerger which I suggest you tie they are that good. Go to JackGartside.com and get some Olivee GSS if you don't already have it .
Thanks Jim! I've been tying different nymphs and wooly buggers, but just started tying some drys with elk and deer hair. Watching your technique with the humpy is really helpful for learning how to keep the hair under control.
recently subscribed to your channel and find your videos to be very good for this slightly more than a beginner. Appreciate your choice of classic flies.
Thanks Ron, I like to tie flies that you just look at but it is much better to tie the ones the fish will look at. The classics are classic because the trout look at & eat them. Jim
I've tried tying these like green drakes. Wrapping around each wing to form a cone at the base. A lot more of a headache then I needed. Definitely doing it your way from now on
Thank you! I did learn a lot of tricks in this short video. I would like to see how you wip finish with that tube. Do you have a video demonstrating that technique? Also, great tip on using a hackle to clear the eye of the hook from cement.
Thanks for this video. I tied a few of these but always get in a kerfuffle with the hackle, mainly not leaving enough room at the head. I was surprised when you tied the hackle in through the wings as I've never seen that technique before - what is the reason doing this instead of the more commonly used technique of tying it in at right angles to the shank?
That's a alsome pattern!!.. I have not yet attempted any fur patterns. But, today I ordered some moose body hair and elk hair to tie some of these fur patterns. I'm gonna be fly fishing for Bluegill with this humpy. Will this same pattern work out Ok on a #8 or #10 hook ?? I might tie a few #12's, but I like to use a #8 or #10 for Bluegill, unless you change my mind.LOL Thanks for sharing this pattern with us.
You can tie it sa large as you want. Personally I would use the #12. But if you make them bigger they will look like a moth which is great for bass. You'd be surprised at how many bass you can get on smaller flies.
@@TheFlymanJim Thanks Jim, I like to use a little larger hook than a #12, because where I fish there are a lot of large Crappie too. Like you said, there's a lot of big Bass too. But, I have hooked more Crappie than Bass while bream fishing, there is always that chance a Big Lunker will hit it. I have learned from watching you Vedio's you like to use a #12 hook. Then watching your fishing Vedio's, it amazes me watching you catch those 5+ pound Brown Trout of a #12 hook. That's Alsome!!!... LOL !!.. Thanks Again Jim!!...
Hey Jim, I tied about six of these, and when I tied them I didn't have any hackle. They were in the first three months of tying. Is there any way I can sneak in a hackle now? They don't have very big heads. Let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks Sean

Learned a lot from this video! Using a hackle to clear the eye of the hook of head cement is ingenious! Great job!
Thanks Brent, glad I help out!
Thanks for the kind words, & thanks for putting me in with a great fly tyer like Hans!

This way is the traditional tie for the Humpy.
Jim Misiura just curious are you part of the UCSC? I'm going down there next Friday to fish the fly fishing only stretch behind the club
No I'm not. Have a good time.
Great helpful video!!!
Hi Harry,
Thanks for the support. I hope I can be of help in the future.

I have a video on using the whip finisher. Check my Playist "Materials" I think you'll find it there.
Another great learning experience Jim. Thanks!
thanks
Hi Chris,
Not yet but I'll work on it.

Another great fly Jim, do you have a tutorial on tying a Sedgehog?
Nice!
alright, thank you
Preciosa Humpy Jim
How about trimming the bottom side of the hackle, to improve presentation? Thanks for reading this.
Thanks for the tip! I would fish this in fast water and want all the help I can get.
Hey Jim, I was wondering if you could substitute the deer hair in for elk hair?
You certainly can.

The only thing you can do is try to put one in now. Maybe try to start at the head and wrap it back then tie it off.
Jim will you do a fly video on the mcdugal
The McDugal has other names Look for my video on the Irresistable. I'll work on one for the Rat Faced Mcdugal
Jim Misiura thanks Jim your tutorials have taught me much
Please don't go out if you way Jim, whenever you kind find the time... Thank you ...
The Humpy really isn't a beginner fly.
If you follow along and take your time I Believe you can do it.
