A friend of mine bought a 1966 Mustang GT350 in the late 1970's. It had the stock 289 with stock sidepipes (dealer installed?) and I always remember how the car was incredibly light, very fast and extremely tinny sounding (doors, hood, trunk lid, etc all had no sound damping at all). For a 289 it was incredibly fast, with slightly quicker acceleration than my 1967 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme convertible's 330 Jetfire Rocket (320 HP stock). As a 16 year old teenager he drove it daily to high school but he found it difficult to park with the manual steering. With his father's assistance, in 1981 or 1982, he installed power steering and power brakes from another 1966 Mustang. He still has it today and I still have my 1967 Oldsmobile.
I had a 65 and a 66 you had to actually drive them. No power brakes, no power steering, no ABS, and yes the rear end was light. They became very difficult when it was raining, but I learned how to drive a car, really drive a car.
@@Bulldogmm what did yours have for a rear end? I'm not sure which ratio was stock (maybe 3.89:1; he had at least 2 of those in 3rd members from other GT350s). Most interesting was the fact the GT350 3rd members had Detroit lockers inside and the cars came stock, right from Ford, this way. I don't know if the locker was a factory option or if all GT350s came with them. The first time I had one in my hands to play with I recall being extremely intrigued that there was no actual differential but instead a ratcheting system behaving similar to the ratchet in a socket set. Another odd memory I have is him being so happy when he got a genuine (Ford) lightweight fiberglass hood from a 65 that he installed (in 66 Ford switched to heavier steel structured hoods). Later, when it warped so badly you couldn't latch the hood pins he wasn't so happy... Did your 65's hood also warp like his. He was telling me the stories of the fixes and shaking his head of all the dumb stuff people did to those mustangs. What brought him around this area . He followed Carol this way for the manufacturing of the Shelby charger in the Omni ghl. That were manufactured in the belvedere plant and possibly Kenosha Wisconsin also. Hoovie just ignoring the obvious GT-40 sitting beside this thing. I'd be geeking out, even if the Mustang was my car. Id wanna geek out out of the GT-40
My guess is an 03-05 Ford GT. Would’ve liked to know more about the seller, he has a new GT on the way. My guess was Wrong. 😬
Definitely looked like a gt40. But if I would be owner I would not wanted to have my gt40 on the internet too. I would have showed it Tyler but would have not wanted it in a RUclips video
@@felixborek that’s my thought exactly. It’s not hoovie’s car to show off

Yeah, this is way better than any property or the stock market. Are you leaving all the decals that aren't factory? Now you have the real one. It's so much better than that green one you sold. I am so jealous. Thank you so much for showing us this Tyler!
Beautiful! I saw one at SCCA Nationals in Lincoln, Nebraska some years back. The guy owned it from the late 60's and he raced in CAM-T class. Coolest car ever!
Best thing about a conversion van for me, was when my wife said "I want a van for the kids". Went right out and traded her car in for one. Didn't tell her it wouldn't fit in the garage so ... more room for my toys!
I hope you have enough children for this to make sense

What a beautiful car! The engine isn't shiny, which is great! It's a proper used, raced and taken care of car.

Agreed, very much a beast of beauty.
No it's not... choose. An eleanor mustang or this ugly thing?
@@pannenkoekspek depending on how much he spent on it, I’m sure it was probably over 110k, this is the first time I think Hoovie may have made a mistake. Especially if he tracks it.

I feel so conflicted while watching Hoovie's videos. On one hand I am super envious that this guy is living my dream. On another the sheer amount of jumping from car to car really can become rather unpleasent.. Especially for someone who wants to get to know each of the cars.. 18 cars is a lot to know at once 😬🤷♂️ Great videos whatsoever! 💪
Yes,it is weird.I went from daily driving my '85 Omni GLH,and drove my '77 Toronado 1 night and went to step on the clutch as I neared a stop sign and slammed into my seatbelt as the brake pedal is very wide in that car.OOPs.
I'm not envious in the slightest. I'm a car guy, but this seems like a huge nightmare to have to pay for, insure, store and maintain. I'd be good with 3 or 4 collectibles, tops.
Tyler's a flipper. He doesn't get too attached to his purchases because there's always money to be made.
@@bryduhbikeguy Been there, done that! Almost launched a friend through the windshield. And there's nothing to say but "oops!"

In this episode hoovie tells y’all how to win every local car show
Beautiful car, beautiful wheels! Garys garage is awesome amd looks like he has a GT40 under that cover. Dont forget to keep the race gas in it and don't forget to turn on the fan.
Can't wait to hear some of the noises that come out of the wizard when he sees this for the first time!
That last picture on the trailer , gives such a legendary / iconic vibe to it.. that I will reminiscent for many many years , and 20 years later wow.
Hope he towed it with a cover on it.
Went to a car show in 79 or 80 there was a slew of 427 Cobras, GT350s and assorted Mach 1s, Boss 302s etc, etc and one black/gold GT350H 4sp that looked out of place because it wasn't all polished up, some guy's daily driver, as the show was winding down and all those cars were being trailered up he went tearing out of there in a cloud of burnt rubber. That for me was the highlight of the show.
Wow!!! This Mustang is stunning & definitely not a Hooptie!!!! Great job Tyler!!! 👍👍🙂
At first I was sad he sold a lot of stuff. Then I saw this video and now I'm happy.
Couple years ago I went shopping to the local home Depot and the greeters stopped me he saw my Carol Shelby t-shirt he pointed to his hat pin he said he worked for Carol Shelby back in the day working on the Hertz rental mustangs he said he wanted to get one of those but they were out of his price range . But he ended up picking up a Shelby charger it was not considered a Dodge because there's enough car parts changed to be considered its own car.
Wow, by far your best buy yet! A real 66 Shelby R code! My era car, was 19 when these were new, saw them race a couple of times, Class B production race rule legal SCCA Champions, cleaned the race tracks of all B production Corvettes, drove Chevy and GM crazy back in the day. Enjoy your new piece of AUTOMOTIVE HISTORY it is a beautiful car!!!
Hi,what a great find. If you want to drive on the street this is what I will do. Change the engine to a 5.0 with a 670 cfm set up. Change the clutch, trans and rear gear's. This way you will have the race set-up ready to go. You don't want to waste the race stuff on the street. The noise you hear in the back may be the Shelby override bars. I would also join a Shelby Club near you. Theses guys will have boat load of knowledge .
Congratulations!
Greetings, my friend! This is a very rare car, indeed! 310 hp today seems quite lame. I think a "Torque Monster" would do quite nicely! Wouldn't you agree? 🇺🇲 🇨🇦 #PaixAmourEtMuscleVoitures
Congratulations Hoovie on this amazing opportunity to own a great piece of racing history !
Hoovie! Don’t worry about making it for road use, why would you bother? You’ll get to enjoy maybe 10% on the road. Keep it strictly race it’s been done so well I personally wouldn’t change a thing.
To make this a comfortable "Road Car" would cost $20K and would totally KILL the value of it. Leave it as is and have fun with it at Car Meets and take it to the Race Track a couple of times before you sell it in a few months.
If there's one RUclipsr who deserves it all it's you, Tyler. Congrats 👌🏻
Congrats. It is a beauty. I strongly recommend Chuck Cantwell’s book about how he and the Shelby team designed and built these beasts.
This is so cool! The only questions left unanswered in this video is: What was under the other, GT40-shaped, car cover? ;-)
I was just saying that in my head, maybe a factory 5 kit car?
Or superformance
My thoughts also Ford GT
He's a Ford guy. It's a GT40.
This explains why you sold the other Mustang so easily lol

Like he said, if someone bought the mustang, he’d just go out and buy another one.
My first car was a white and blue 66 GT350. Bought mine lightly used from Warren Taylor Ford in Daytona Beach in 1967. Paid $1600! Lots of fun cars since then but I’d take it back in a second!
I'd love to be able to afford an old Shelby. Grew up with a guy who has a original 65 Shelby GT350 race car, 66 GT350, 67 GT500, 70 GT500 Convertible with the Super Cobra 428. Summer of 2019 he finally let me drive the 66 (i was 27) and man what an experience. It's only had the heater core and exhaust changed since 1966. Thankfully it was an auto because the manual steering is very heavy and kinda vague and the manual brakes were quite hard. But absolutely loved it.
"The car of my dreams" for the 40th time!
I remember seeing GT 500 and 350’s in the mid 80’s when they were only about 20 years old. Tyler is rubbing shoulders with the big boys in the car industry. Thanks for letting us tag along
The backstory is close. I'm pretty sure Iacocca said he wanted it done, Shelby said something along the lines of 'you can't make a stallion out of a mule', and Iacocca said I didn't ask you, you work for me.
Carroll said “ I can’t make a racehorse out of a mule.”
Best part of vehicle is where it came from. Phoenix, Arizona. HUGE tall sign you have potentially a good car with no rust that was maybe garaged and preserved. All my cars last FOREVER and are a blast to drive in this climate. Grats you sob!
For anyone on the area, there's a display of Hertz Rent-a-racer cars and memorabilia at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Chicago this weekend.
By far.... my favorite episode. Mostly because my parents owned a 66 Hertz back in 1970 when I was but a toddler. Thankfully we have a couple pictures, wonderful memories!!
Are we just going to gloss over that it looked like that man has a GT40 underneath that gray car cover?
It definitely did and he's obviously a ford guy
I fear that after some Hoovie track time" this car wont be so pristine.
My thoughts exactly!! It’ll either end up hitting the wall or he’ll blow up another engine lol
Grandad bought 1966 hertz gt350 H
In late 67 thankfully it had rear end issues and parked in 66 with 5 k on clock it has all original drive line
We still have car in family
Tyler is living the dream of every car guy and his viewers are financing it. But, he works hard at producing interesting content which is why he has had his success.
I predict he'll get rid of his hoopties in the future and move upmarket to more exotics. Best of luck Tyler! 😊
I want a Kansas RUclips Grand Prix - race between Hoovie, John Ross, 100% Jake, Elliot, Wizard, Ninja, etc. Tavarish can do the tech inspection. Ed Bolian as the announcer.

You can always just wire in another kill switch hidden where only you know where it is instead of a keyed ignition, or two if you want to really keep people from trying to steal it…
A battery kill toggle switch is exactly what it needs. Hide it well and worry far less.
Great acquisition. FF sakes keep this one.
This is awesome, Hoovie! Hope to see you at Road America next July at the annual summer vintage. It is a fantastic event.
When it comes time to sell more cars. This one will need to be one that stays no matter what. its a rolling piece of art and history!

@@fredsaunders987 he’s obviously never driven a classic
@@fredsaunders987 most new cars are still holding good value right now. With everyone starting to go fully electric expect these final few years of high horsepower internal combustion engines to become quite valuable over the next 10 to 15 years.

I have to take issue with your statement about being the ‘coolest Mustang ever’. I think Steve McQueens’ Bullitt Mustang may trump your one. Just. 😉
No chance
As much as I like this Mustang, I would say the GOAT is a 1969 boss 429 or a 1967 GT500 KR but not with that Elanor bodykit b.s..
The Boss 429 didn't handle as well as the GT350, heavier too.
The 350s handled better...
GT500KR was 1968 only. Production shifted to Ford for 1968 whereas the earlier cars were hand built in Shelby's shop. Also, much like the cobras, the small block cars are responsible for their racing success. Not the big blocks.
The period Shelby race 289's had extensively reworked heads running chevy 1.90 sized intake valves and were generally dyno'd at between 365 and 420 H.P. depending on the level of tune (a guy who owned a real K code '65 FB Mustang that went thru several levels of tunes and engines).
Ok, when I saw Hertz GT 350, I figured what’ money pit, faux Shelby is Hoovie buying this time? Well, ya got me, from the brief show and tell, it looks like a VERY impressive car, congratulations, it’s beautiful!
